Malaysia decided to kick out all foreign nationals!! Nandji is not ready to sail... What do we do!!! www.sailingnan...
In this episode, we have been given notice that it is time to leave Malaysia. We have been here on an expired visa for months now and the time had come for the government to decide weather they would continue amnesty for foreign. nationals. They decided not to... Nandji is not finished and Tallula is only 2 months old. We head to immigration in the hope of gaining an extension... What do we do now!!!

With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef... We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace as we have just had our first baby, born in Malaysia! Now completing our second major refit, Nandji is ready for the world when the world is ready for us!!!

Our boat is just south of you in Port Dickson....honestly - you have been lucky to have been allowed to stay this long...We were ordered to leave by June 4th, 2020 by the local immigration in that state, as each office does not follow the same national directives. So we ended up back in Canada (our daughter is wrapping up high school this year and we can start being vaccinated in 2 weeks, so it has been helpful in a way). I dearly miss our boat and working away on small projects...great footage of Pangkor by the way, it is hopefully my next stop for our boatworks and I have been in communications with James. Once I am fully vaccinated, I will apply to immigration here for a visa to return to our vessel and prepare it to go to sea....I have heard of a UK couple that emphasized the boat is their primary residence and they were intending to employ workers at the boatyard and they were permitted to return to their boat...so we will see... Are you sure absolutely sure about the 5K to enter Thailand with a boat?

We feel your pain as we are also in Malaysia. This action from the government came out of the blue for all of us. No-one expected it because Malaysia has always been incredibly welcoming. It came about because some foreign nationals were abusing their hospitality (working and conducting business illegally) and the authorities simply had enough. Sadly, the rule is for ALL foreigners, so it has swept up the good with the bad. And believe it or not, there are bad cruisers as well as good. So here we are. All trying to figure out what to do. Most have already left for Thailand or Indonesia. For Australians, it's slightly easier (albeit expensive) as they can sail 'home' reasonably easily from this part of the world. We know a couple who did just that about six weeks ago. For other nationalities (like us, we're Brits) it means a 9000 NM passage through brutal winds and waves, across two pirate zones. In Sabah (on the island of Borneo, where we are) there's no hope of sailing west with the SW monsoon about to kick in, so that leaves north and east through pirate waters. None of us wants to fly 'home' because our boats are our home. Most cruisers have nowhere to live in their countries of origin and will have to find somewhere to stay, an expensive prospect. And leaving your boat behind in a marina (the only place where your insurance covers you) is an added huge expense. In the great scheme of things, a few yachties having a crisis isn't that important, but believe me it's making us all anxious and worried about how we are going to cope. The Philippines announced today that they are open to foreigners with a valid visa. The catch? Malaysia won't let us fly to Kuala Lumpur to get the visa. Bollocks. Liz

@@nonyayet1379 you must have just missed it as we covered this off a couple of weeks ago! Philippines is closed, but working to get things open ASAP. They've just brokered a deal for 10m shots of Pfizer. Of course our departure also depends on the seasons but movement even within Malaysia is difficult.

Sail to Indonesia, see how long you can stay, then send Bonita and Tallula home by air, if there are no other options. Maybe Yosh could single hand sail back to Oz or see if you can find someone to help with the sailing? I have to agree with other commenters, you could sail around Australia until COVID calms down and Tallula is a bit older. Sorry you’re in this position, I hope it works out for you.

G'day mate, my wife and I just recently anchored in Indonesia. We left home, Margaret River, WA and have been island hopping in Indonesia, for the past couple weeks. We're currently on anchor, off the coast of Lombok, Indonesia. So far we haven't had any problems or issues. No problems with ridiculous fees either mate. Everyone has been very welcoming and wonderful. Hopefully you complete your refit soon, so you can leave Malaysia for a new destination. Good luck mate. Cheers!

That is only the top tip of Mozambique. You must not forget the countrys coast is over 1000nm long. The trouble is in the top 50nm. I have lived in the country for the past 20 years and provided medical services to all the oil and gas companies where the trouble is so I really do understand the situation well. I have friends running commercial boats up there and at this stage there is no problems in the sea.

CMCO extended until 17th May, perhaps after this date and with vaccines rolling out things may improve. Also suggest ask if you can do a border run and get another 3 month stamp. If CMCO extends and boat not ready, and if you have the funds, stay in Thailand and wait it out, pretty cheap there...

@donwat91
@donwat91 3 жыл бұрын
That would make the most sense. You have a baby to think about now. So prepare yourself to leave as if you're getting kicked out. This country has it seems to have helped you . What a year now I believe you said. So if you were to go wait it out with family. What , heaven forbid the both of you got covid-19 who would take care of your baby. She should be your top priority. Sailing should wait . Get your boat ready to go home and do a restart when this crazy stuff gets better. Thanks for reading and I hope you know I'm not against you doing this . Covid -19 has changed the world in which we live. Take care and hope to hear your decision soon. Don't look down on it look at it that you'll get your boat well prepared to set sail again soon. And your baby will be a little older. There is always a bright side to everything.

Hello there fellow Aussies, the one thing that has stood out to me for over twelve months now, is how much world citizens have come together with compassion, support, great communication. We have done this extremely well under dreadful duress considering most of our government leaders globally suck at humanitarian issues, and Msm continue there fear facts.. I’m so sorry you have to go through more adversity especially with a new Bub.. it will work out, it always does, because your an amazing couple. Id suggest try to get home, other Aussies may want to jump on board with you to get home also,sell a one way ticket Yosh. Many Australians jumped on yachts from Italy, USA to make there way home due to lack of flights, high costs. Place Bonita and Bub on a flight, (Avoid WA, VICTORIA) quarantine issues are dreadful. TRY FOR SYDNEY, DARWIN,they have quarantine-sorted (BNE won’t lift her numbers,) another incompetent leader.. you’ve got this, don’t stress..sorry, I’m so over these tyrant leaders creating unnecessary chaos to many! ⛵️🌸

When having a baby there are an enormous amount of responsibilities in life that and there are big decisions to make. I hope you can figure things out and your baby will be safe. At this age I personally feel a baby should be close to quality health care near your home country.. I know Covid has made things difficult. After a few years when the baby is older then things can be different. This is just my opinion.

Get on that Shaft and motor !!!! Provision up and gas up, and get your Asse's back to Australia....Don't worry about the 4,000 quarantine fee.....worry about that when you arrive.... In the mean time friends ,family and Patrons can help with the money.... for quarantine, I know you hate asking for help, but sometimes it's necessary ......Maybe we can get a media campaign going on your behalf....Bring Tallula home...!!!! All the best Dingo Dan

I checked here in Vietnam but no word as to exactly when the borders will open again. I am not sure what Malaysia's laws are but Tallula is Malaysian by birth and one would think that Malaysia would not want to kick out one of their citizens along with her mom and dad. In either case, Indonesia could be a good option as heading towards South Africa is a long haul and things could change on the way there. Your best bet is to stay in Asia for the time being. If things change here before your time runs out, I'll let you know.

Maybe it is time to think about coming home to Oz for a while. Covid is relatively under control and more importantly you have family and friends here. Take care.

They were not able to return to Australia because of the dog. That's why they decided to stay in Malaysia and have the baby born in Penang. I guess that, because of the dog, they would still not be able to return to Australia.
