Frozen Beaver dam Removal Day 3

I got a couple surprises on this day. I had a visitor with a dog and my camera died from the cold! I will have to show the results on the next video. I need to come up with a camera warmer of some kind.

Hopefully you didn't get too wet from all the splashes from your rake as you broke up the dam. Great work as always. Wondering if your feet get cold standing in that rushing water as you work?

Hey Connie Eberle, 👋. I definitely splash myself a lot, thanks for noticing lol. My feet are usually pretty good as long as I keep moving. I wear thick socks and insulated chest waiters. They keep me warm until I poke a hole in them and they leak. 🙄. Having warm drinks out there helps quite a bit as well. Thanks for watching 👍.

Is it true that because everything is frozen over (I think you said you are in Canada maybe?) beavers will not attempt to fix these dams until spring? I am not sure if I am right. If anyone knows I would love to learn more about this.

Hey, mungdawg, 👋 Yes, I am in 🇨🇦 Canada 🦫 They will try to fix it. It is much more difficult, but they will. If they don't fix it, chances are they moved to another location or something. They need that water to get around and survive.

Hi Gene, That one looked a bit easier, not so frozen I suppose because the suns been on it? But the current gave you a few problems, thought for a minute you were going to take a dip. I know it's a lot to ask seeing you are working so hard, but if you could get the camera a bit higher next video near the break in the dam? Mind you, if the cameras going to freeze up, probably doesn't matter. You are going to have to buy it some wooly socks or something. Any chance you could give us an update after the big pond has drained a bit? Thanks for another video, it's been great watching the series of dams being broken down, (and I have no rational reason why these dam breaks are so fascinating, but they are. My children think I'm nuts).

Hi Excession, 👋 It was a bit easier. The temperatures have risen slightly and yes the sun helps. It was around 0 degrees Celsius. Everything is much more slippery when frozen, I will go for a dip one of these days. 😆 I used some hair elastics to hold hand warmers to the camera, it bought me some more time. I already went back so you will be able to see how the dams are doing over the next couple days. 👍. Your welcome, I am glad you are enjoying them. It's OK, most people think I am nuts for doing this lol.

Yes! There were 4 in a row spread over about 3-400 yards. Busy beavers.

Around these parts we don't' approve of ruining a beaver's home during winter. they will be exposed and cannot find another place during this time. very cruel.

Hi Bev. Not to worry. These beavers were trapped before this dam was removed. I got the last 3 on days 7 & 8 in this series. What you said is correct. It would be very cruel. But the beavers in this case were already gone. It is actually illegal to mess with beaver dams here. They have to be deemed a nuisance. I get sent to these places to do this on behalf of our town/municipality. All these places you see me are part of a drainage system that has to be kept clear and maintained. Hi Laura. Good question. 👍 I usually do. In this case, I could only remove the middle because the rest was frozen solid. I had to find where the water was going through and dig there. It was the only unfrozen part. I will end up back here this spring/summer. Thanks for watching.
