Yep, just made the mistake of buying a FrSky X9 Lite S. Will not bind to the XM+. Gives a false bind light then on and off intermittently. Had to get an iRX4 multi to use my new quad. It looks to be over two years since this video came out and FrSky actually has LESS "ACCESS RX Series -2.4GHz" firmware downloads now (missing the XM). I tested the waters of FrSky and found them cold and uninviting.

If the rx is already installed in a quad I always flash it like this: 1. serialpassthrough In the betaflight cli (this has to be the smartport/fport serial port) 2. Use the frsky flashing software for pc Especially when you soldered directly to the receiver or don't have a radio with smartport it is much faster!

Serialpassthrough is difficult to make work with some FC. But with some FC, and if you have the technical chops to make it work, it's great.

Hi fpv friends and Joshua!George from Greece here!i experienced a problem as a newbie . i correctly binded the receiver with my tx16s but when i connected it to beta flight no stick movement occured. So...Be carefull when first binding the Frsky-rxsr if you have sbus to the fc connected. in order the receiver to work in sbus mode when bind check that a green and a blue led is lighting,not only a solid green.In order to bind it you have to stimultaniously press the bind button on the receiver when power on,not keep it after it power ups. but if you do so and nothing works just plug it again normally and press the bind button 4 seconds and thern you will see a green and a blue led.and then it works with beta flight too. this took me 4 hous to find it from another video in you tube thankfully.i just add it here to help other people. thank you for you time and the effort you make Joshua!

Posted this on RCGroups about flashing back to D16 firmware: Started out with a brand new R-XSR receiver and flashed R-XSR FPORT firmware onto it using the X-Lite Pro to verify that I could successfully flash this firmware. Flash was successful and confirmed it by making a new model and binding to it in D16 mode. Telemetry was good as shown by the RSSI. First time flashing the access FPORT firmware resulted in an error, "Device refused data" if I recall correctly. Second attempt was successful. Confirmed working by binding in ISRM ACCESS mode and checking out telemetry tab. Flashing back to FPort has been a struggle. First attempt got to about 75% before it gave me the device refused data error. I expected this since I also got it when flashing ACCESS. Second attempt, the update got through maybe 25% before throwing out the error. Third attempt threw out the error almost immediately. It throwing the error at different times in the update process tells me this is more of a bug and not actually a deliberate attempt at blocking the update. I restarted my X-Lite Pro at this point and tried a fourth time. The fourth attempt was successful. Bound under ISRM D16 mode and checked telemetry. All is good. So there, the firmware update process is hella buggy so while some people might get lucky the first try, some other might fail three times in a row. Bardwell may as well have tried to revert and failed several times. Good luck flashing and may the odds be with you!

Hey josh, I’ve been practicing in your backyard in the simulator a few days, I used to fly regular LOS quads, helis, and planes. went to DJI, but found that even in sport mode I wanted to do more. I recently got a iFlight Nazgûl 5 HD with RXSR and the Racingdayquad says it comes preloaded with access. if my xlite pro has access as a mode, why won’t it bind with the RXSR that has access on it? I’m in the middle of updating the OPEN TX and internal RF module. Update: it’s still not working even with latest firmware ughh

Binding an X-LITE PRO to an R-XSR receiver: I updated the firmware on the R-XSR to the latest V2.1.0 ACCESS Firmware like in this video. BUT, you also need to make the transmitter's internal ISRM module is updated to the latest V2.1.0! I lost so many hours to this issue, I hope it can help someone.

I couldn't figure it out so I ended up rolling back to V1.1.1, which allowed me to bind using ACCESS. I've been looking around, but I can't figure out how to update the ISRM. Help? I have a friend next door that is just getting into flying and I'm trying to set up his new quad with a new Frsky XD9+ and a new R-XSR receiver. I have used this receiver in three of my quads so far and have never had an issue with setting them up. This new transmitter has the 2.3.14 version on it. I have flashed the new firmware as you described, went through every step and cannot get the receiver to bind. When I try to bind it it, all three lights come on, blue, re, and green all light up and stay lit. I have tried everything I know and also watched a few different videos trying to resolve the problem to no avail. I know that I'm missing something but have not been able to figure it out yet. Your videos have helped me numerous times in the past and have been greatly appreciated. Any help with this situation would again be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi Mr. Bard. I'm buying a RTF kit Alpha A85 with R-XSR. They say it comes already soldered and ready, but I still have to update the firmware to match my ACCESS, and I don't know if the servo cable is included. If so, do I have to disassemble something on my drone, remove the receiver in order to update the firmware? As a beginner, all these things are giving me terrible headache. Hello Again Joshua, My HiTec TX just died and a good option for me is the Qx7 with ACCESS. Will this work with the Delta 8 (multiprotocol RX for HiTec) and minima RX also multiprotocol tx.Also, is it possible to have the QX7 to NOT use the ACCESS protocol once it is shipped to me if the ACCESS does not work with my existing receivers? I won't go to ACCESS since I can't go back to ACCST (D16 / *D8)* modes. It's just not worth it to me to have to switch radios to fly different quads. That being said, it's going to take some earth-shattering can't live without, or can't fly without feature to get me to want to change.

Accst/D16 just needs a firmware update to the internal radio and you’re good to go. Install latest opentx 2.3 nightly and you’ll even get crsf support. I flashed and bound my rxsr to access and accts and it works just fine. In both modes (and contrary to what Joshua said: you can simply flash the rxsr back to accts firmware. Even with the x9lite. It is reversible.)

Josh!! the FW-ACCESS-RECEIVERS-V1.1.3 / RXSR_ACCESS_Fport190805 in the web seem wrong, when you flash it say in the controller R9-MINI-OTA, and give you a shit of range. i downgrade to 1.1.1 and say again RXSR. Can you do a video about re-flash back, was a pain for me the lack of information about that.

It's basically impossible to convert an ACCST radio to ACCESS. Well -- in theory some people have ripped the ACCESS module out of an ACCESS radio and installed it in an ACCST radio, but it's beyond what most people can do, or want to do.

I just found out that my X9L can't read my 64GB SD card if it's in exFAT or NTFS file format. You have to use FAT32 so that X9L can read the SD card properly. Why didn't Frsky say this on their website?

Hey Joshua, I've downloaded the correct files, according to the OpenTx version on my Qx7, and placed them in the firmware folder of my sd card. However when I access the file in my transmitter, when the Rxsr is connected, it does not give me the option to update the receiver. Only option I get is to copy or delete the file. Can you, please, tell me what im doing wrong?

The file must be in the FIRMWARE folder and it must have the correct extension, which is frk or frsk. If you're not seeing the option to flash the file, one of those conditions may be false.

The X9 Lite has a firmware update that lets it use D16 mode. And I have heard a rumor they are going to open up D8 mode too. At that point, I think it is a very very good starter radio.

You cannot mix different protocols like SBUS, FPort, ACCESS because the telemetry sensor ordering is different. You cannot bind these quads to the same model on your radio. You have to make one model for each, and discover sensors for each.

Did you flash opentx or the radio module? I don't think you can brick the module so I'm guessing you flashed opentx. The workaround is to re-flash it using DFU mode. The FrSky version of OpenTX is different from the OpenTX website one. For example the Frsky version (I believe) does not include the Crossfire lua script.

With a new X-lite Pro, would I still flash the radio on the computer using the OpenTX app with it's latest software, then flash the FrSky firmware on the radio using the SD card contents and firmware from the FrSky site (updating for the R-XSR), then I would flash the R-XSR receiver firmware from the FrSky website to the receiver. Should I do all of those steps even receiver before I even try to bind? ACCST16 was already on the raio when I got it. Josh, talking about binding, I need your help! I had bound 2 R-XSR to my X9D, but unfortunately afterwards I broke the bind button of both by adding some conformal coating. Is there a way to bind them back if I update them or my taranis? How can I extract that binding information and use it again? Thank you!

The only way to do it is to re-bind them. Gently scrape off the bind button to expose the electrical traces underneath. By bridging the traces, you can "press" the button.

Thank you for the heads up. If you flash the wrong firmware to an R-XSR and you only have ACCST transmitters (X9D, QX7, Xlite (non-pro), etc..) you effectively brick the RX from your use. This is not good.

@@MsKoffeinjunky Any links as to where there is information on flashing an FrSky X series RX via Arduino (or FTDI)? FrSky D series have tx and rx and usually need pins shorted to allow the RX to be updated via FTDI or arduino, but these options are not available on the micro X series RX's.

The receiver has a standard micro-controller on it. I think it's an STM32 F1 chip but not sure. When you flash the ACCESS firmware, it overwrites the bootloader to prevent you from flashing D16 firmware any more. But if you know how to flash the micro-controller directly, you can pull a code dump from a D16 RXSR and write it to the controller of the ACCESS RXSR. This would require tools that some people wouldn't have, like an Arduino, but it can be done.

It's difficult to guess what will happen in the future. In the last few weeks, FrSky has made D16 and soon D8 available on ACCESS radios, which they originally weren't going to do. So maybe something different will happen with the RXSR in the future. Today, you can't downgrade back to D16.

Hi Joshua you're awesome! Dude I'm dying with my R-XSR, Wind5, and X-LPro...The receiver and trans worked fine w my 369s (btw I agree w you 349 is better) but not w the Wind5. Im getting an RSSI signal in Betaflight but thats about it. Hepp me please

I'm still running D16 on my XM+ RXs. I'm having a hard time finding a technical review on the performance of ACCESS on an XM+. Could you do that, or is FrSky so high up on everyone's shit list that nobody cares anymore?

@@JoshuaBardwell Just an FYI, The X-Lite Pro, paired with an ACCESS-flashed R-XSR, does not work right. Range is somewhere along the lines of a cheap-frisbee, and Betaflight OSD RSSI never tops 50. Forums and facebook groups suggest that this is a known issue. There doesn't appear to be a lot of people trying to make the jump based on the sparse amount of chatter on the subject.

@@blam3329 I jumped on the bandwagon and flashed my xm+ RX and had terrible range. Tried flashing back to D16 and found out that isn't possible. Well at least these were old cheap receivers.

Daniel Sullivan I found out that there’s a scaling bug (nobody wants to admit where it is: betaflight/opentx/frsky). If I go into bf CLI and set my Rex scaling to 200, its more realistic. My range isn’t necessarily bad, but I’m afraid to take it very far, so I don’t know how bad it is. I was able to flash my R-XSR back to D16 though.

First attempt at flashing the latest firmware (2.1.0) to the R-XSR, I got the error "FW update error, Data refused". I simply tried it a second time, and it worked. Hope that helps someone.

X9 Lite I got my wife has Ersky Tx on it instead of Open Tx 😡 Anyone know if Open Tx can be installed over it?

Go to Download Open Tx 2.3 and download firmware put the Radio in Bootlouder mod and flash the firmware after that you have Open Tx in your Radio

mini micro FPV did u delete the erskytx file in the controller’s folder (not the sd)? Also did u update the bootloader too? Mine is on opentx but the bootloader is boot loader v3.1 ready instead of opentx bootloader. Also my internal isrm-n module version is 1.1.0/1.1.1 Haha not sure how extensive you need to update.. a bit bummed unable to bind with spi frsky_X receiver which is on D16 -_-

@@buluidong You know I regret not keeping better notes when I did this! I don't recall deleting any ersky file. If I remember I just used all the files from FrSky and flashed the latest firmware, ISRM, and PMU. After this I was able to access ACCST and bind to my Sailfly on D16.

I just ordered the X9 Lite "Pro" as my first controller from Bangood. ( should get here in a month) & Hopefully it's not a copy or a fake. I'm new to the hobby. Big Problem; I have no computer 😢

Exactly the same process. You need to connect the SmartPort wire to the signal wire of the plug on the underside of the radio.

ACCESS has not been ported to R9 yet but the plan is that it will.

@@JoshuaBardwell I don't believe that is the plan, at least not anymore. They now sell a R9 "2019" ACCESS module and R9 "OTA" receivers. It seems the R9 system can not be firmware upgraded to ACCESS which is a bummer because I JUST bought an older R9 module. To buy or not to buy the older R9 receivers to go along with it is the question.

Make sure you are selecting "flash s.port" assuming the receiver is plugged in to the bottom of the radio.

No, receivers can be flashed freely back and forth to either protocol. x-Lite Pro and X9 Lite can also bind to D16 receivers. with OpenTX 2.3 nightlys, also have MPM support including Crossfire.
