Commenting on purchases? I was once at Albertson's stocking up on supplies for a hiking trip. I purchased sleep aids, black trash bags, and duct tape for blister prevention. The checkout clerk asked "should I be worried?" I responded, "no, but can you tell me where I can find some lye?" The expression on her face was priceless until she realized I was kidding.

Thought it was an unspoken rule to not comment on people's groceries at the register, not customers and definitely not the cashier.
@viviannichols35823 жыл бұрын
My first job was at a public library. It’s a SPOKEN rule that you may not judge someone’s choices of what to check out. We literally were not even allowed to tell the cops what someone was reading. I always told myself that the person could very easily be writing a paper for school about whatever the controversial topic was. So when I became a cashier, I brought along the same attitude with me. If someone was buying massive amounts of junk food, I assumed they were donating it. Or doing a science project. Or whatever I had to tell myself in order to not judge their choices. 😁 At the end of the day, the store is selling it. The manufacturer made it. So it hardly makes sense to blame the consumer for... consuming.

The best idea I have found for those cooking only for one is to make regular recipes, portion and freeze... to start it's a bit pricier and a bit more cooking, but once your freezer is stocked, you're only cooking once or twice a week, and you're still managing to eat with variety.

Thanks for sharing. I live in Texas, everyone who's from here, is so chatty. Sometimes it's a pain and sometimes it can be a good thing. Back in the day, I was shopping and I had ginger ale and I was bald at the time, the cashier asked if I was okay. we ended up having a conversation about breast cancer. 11 years later, we're still chatting about our journey and treatments with cancer. 💜 I too love grocery shopping. We were food insecure growing up and so to have money to buy food is a blessing and I appreciate it everyday. If I don't ever have to see saltines with potted meat ever again, I will be a happy camper.

chest freezer tip - I use the cloth shopping bags to organize meats etc. The freezer is deep and things can get lost at the bottom. Put them in the bag and you can grab the handles to pull it all out easily. You can also store your bread on top - simply move the bread to the side to grab your bag, return the bag and put the bread back. You can even colour code your bags - green for veggies, red for meats... :)

On the commenting on your order as they ring you out... When I had my first job as a cashier I was socially awkward and terrible at speaking to people. Hey Christine! I know that some may chuckle about explaining how to freeze some things but to some of us (me included) that was a foreign idea. We grew up with mom having to buy the exact amount of groceries needed for the week because our household was on a strict budget and also food stamps. Even if something was on sale we didn’t always have it I’m in our budget to buy extra for the freezer so I honestly didn’t even know that you could freeze a lot of food like bread or lunch meats. It wasn’t until I got older and that our family had more income that we even bought a separate freezer and had extra food to freeze. So I know some may chuckle, even I do now, but just be aware that their are some people who grew up with a different level of food availability that may not know that freezing bread is even possible. Thank you for your video content! You are fun to watch!

Julia Pacheco ( a fellow You Tuber) has wonderful, realistic videos about cooking . I like her variety, and that her recipes are realistic and normal. We used to shop at a bread outlet store, and I loved it. We are a family of 3 adults, so we don't need all of those yummy carbs. But yes, I too used to buy a lot there and freeze it. I love shopping at Winco too :) 🥰💐🌵🌞🌱🌿🏜️💗🥰💐🌵🌞🌱🌿🏜️💗🥰💐🌵🌞🌱🌿🏜️💗

I had a cashier at Aldi once tell me I was buying too much food. Well, I have a big husband and two growing kids and I shop every two weeks. So I need what I need to feed my family.

This video was so fun! I don’t have a bread outlet in my area, and I’m not kidding when I say my grocery stores never have clearance items. Although I just found a discount/outlet store that has amazing deals! I found it two weeks ago and I have been going multiple times because I have been so excited 😂 I found the clearance nann one dollar 😀

Excellent deals! I'm jealous of the bakery thrift store. We had one next door to our apartment that we enjoyed, sadly the whole chain closed. I miss popping in to ask "what do you have today?" and the very nice chatty cashier would point out the best deals. And she would toss in a few extra freebies if I shopped right before closing.

Love those Fred Meyer deals! I've found the key is to get to the store early, and it's markdowns galore.
