One of my favorite memories with my middle child is of him as a teenager, sitting on the kitchen counter playing his guitar while I was cooking our nightly dinners. The best.

Living in Puerto Rico, the power grid is really unstable, due to this we definitelly buy once a week because we've had a full fridge go bad with weeks worth of stuff before. In my family we do a Pantry stock up once a month, and buy the fresh stuff once or twice a week. We do need to work on more home-cooked meals vs takeout. Family of six here. Thanks for this video. ❤

It’s more expensive in the long run due to what eating processed foods do to your health over time. I had to give up all processed foods due to food allergies and intolerances. It happened over 2-3 years and I slowly started to notice how much better I felt. It’s not easy, but replacing processed foods with whole fresh foods will help anyone feel better health wise.

I am so glad to hear you say "high quality" dairy is so good. It is! I do not like store brand cream cheese. We have tried to melt shredded cheese but it doesn't melt. I will buy the blocks and shred it myself but the taste and quality of Tillamook is SO much better. We are going to start buying cheese from a farm that sells to local restaurants. It's just better.

What finally decided me was the way you transition towards quality and simple ingredients over processed. I'm so glad, it was the missing piece for me until now, the one that makes me a very steady subscriber of Sarah as well. Like her, we saw so much health and savings improvement with it. You two share such good content about groceries and frugal/simple choices ! Thanks a lot

Having canned meat on the pantry shelves has been a huge saver for me if we are exhausted or one of us is sick and I can whip up a meat in no time. We do meal plan, but when I get sick, all the planning goes out the window. I have to have plans B-Z ready so my family can still have a healthy nutritious meal while I recover.

The thing about eggs is no it’s not cheaper generally, but hands down home raised eggs are so much better quality. Plus you know how you’re feeding your chickens. We also as humans grew up in villages or communities for thousands of years. Really just in like the last 150ish years we have gotten away from that in a lot of ways. We were meant to do things in groups. Personally I feel like that’s where a lot of people feel disconnected.

Love the podcast Christine, but unpasteurised milk comes with serious health risks, especially for children. It can carry Salmonella, E. coli and Listeria so it’s a shame to see it referred to as “higher quality” here.
@frugalfitmompodcast2 ай бұрын
When I'm discussing higher quality milk, I wasn't specifically talking about raw milk. I was referring to products with fewer ingredients and not really store brand items. There is a huge taste difference between great value heavy cream and this heavy cream I get from the local dairy farm. It's not raw, though. Sarah does purchase raw milk for her family but that's a personal choice for her.
