Sometimes you just happen to be in the right place at the right time. I was at my discount food store in the Minneapolis area a couple of weeks ago and I purchased just over $20 of merchandise. The clerk who was ringing up the sale said "did you get your blueberries?" He said if you buy over $20 of stuff today you get a free CASE of blueberries! I couldn't believe it. Now I did know the blueberries were on the older side and I had to pick through them to take out a few bad ones, but I ended up freezing over 7 quarts of blueberries and they are wonderful. I think things like that are a blessing from God.

Oh my I had a brain wave this week Emmy! I purchased a sack of carrots and a sack of potatoes. I never do this but decided for the grand total of £6.00 (UK) that it might be worth a little effort . So I settled myself with a pot of coffee at my table and a film on my laptop and began peeling, chopping,blanching and bagging and freezing! 6 hours work in total but I have made it! Did I feel disheartened at the amount of work? Yes! Did I cry at one point and call my husband a bad name? Yes I did! Did I wake up the next morning and look in my freezer and feel so thrilled ? Yes I did! Not sure i would do it again in a hurry but seeing this amount of prepped food I don't think I will need to!!! Have a wonderful week both of you. Blessings sent from the UK xxx

@TereBrown-n1e, how long do you bake the chicken skin for? That sounds really good. I went to Kroger yesterday, and they had ALL of their hot rotisserie chickens marked down to $3.47. They had simply made too many. I bought two so I could make a decent batch. I wish I had bought more. The more I think about it, I keep coming up with new meal ideas. 😂
@TereBrown-n1eАй бұрын
@@stephanieblaylock1 Just watch it, doesn't take long specially if it's been boiled first. Btw I didn't return the skin back to boil after meat is cooked, (if some gets in there the dog gets it) so the raw skin takes 20 min or so, (I think, it's been several years) depending on the chicken. Watch it closely first time or 2, see how it goes. Boiled will take less. This was a lifesaver during induction.

Love that mirror! A friend had more tomatillos than she could handle so I traded some leeks and green onions from my garden and made five pints of delicious salsa verde! A local grocery had turkey breasts for .99 a pound so I bought two of them to roast then slice and use for sandwiches. Healthier and much less expensive than deli turkey and I get to use the bones for making stock! My most frugal purchase, however, was a book about Baking Bootcamp at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. I’ve always wanted to take their baking courses but the bootcamps cost thousands of dollars for four days! This book takes me right into the experience with a detailed narrative and also explains techniques, gives hints and tips. It ends with the recipes for all the items baked over the course of the camp. For $2.50 I am very entertained and coming as close to the bootcamp experience as a frugal person can get 😄

This past week I did a serious food inventory of our freezers and pantry and was able to plan out 90% of our October evening meals with what I already have. London Broil is our favorite cut of meat for the crockpot. We love to use some of the leftovers for open faced roast beef sandwiches or if we’re feeling fancy, French dips. Knowing we will be spending less on food for October, we’re planning a day trip to Ohio’s Amish country to stock up on bulk supplies and cheese, cheese and more cheese. 😊

LOL! YES! Love us some cheese too!

Love the mirror and the bathroom update! I'm still preserving our garden harvests. We're having warm weather for October in WV and we're still getting cantaloupe and watermelon, as well as cucumbers and other veggies and fruits! We've been eating and sharing our melon with neighbors, but we have lots so I decided to dehydrate some of them and vac-seal for making kefir water this winter. I'm so glad to be able to preserve the melons this way and not allow them to waste! We are also harvesting our pickling cukes at gherkin stage and making refrigerator pickles! This past weekend we harvested our meat poultry for the freezer--chicken and turkey. Our son came for the weekend and helped and we shared chicken with him (and his older sister who had to work). I loaded him up with home-canned goods as well. We really appreciated his help. This coming weekend my husband is going to drive to his house (3 hours away) and help him start building a playroom in his basement for our grandkids. Turn about is fair play (pun intended...it's a play room). We also shared some of our laying hens with our son's family for eggs as they'd lost some of their layers over the last couple of years. I feel it's frugal to share back and forth with people....."things" or work. We also bartered with a neighbor for a trade....we traded a Black Stone grill (we didn't care for it) and a small fishing boat for firewood. During this transaction we shared melons with them and they shared some canning jars with us. Pretty awesome! God bless!

These are all wonderful things to do. Sadly where I am, in the uk, growing your own veggies etc isn’t a big thing really, not in comparison to grass and flowers… We have a large garden so have separated it to give us a veg garden and an area with fruit trees. I love it personally. Wish I could grow more and next year I hope too, had a lot of failures this year being the 2nd but 1 with lots. Hoping to get more berry bushes established this year so they fruit next hopefully.

I have a raised bed garden. I have been freezing my romaine tomatoes as I harvest them and I now have about 7 gallon freezer bags! The other day I thawed two bags out, slipped them out of their skins and made tomato sauce to put in the freezer. Freezing them whole means I can process them whenever I want and never waste any! I’m also chopping onion and peppers from my garden for the freezer.

Nice mirror. I have an unframed oval mirror lengthwise in my half bath directly over my sink. I have a silver wrought iron rectangle framed horizontal wise mirror in my hallway. Also have a thick wooden framed rectangle mirror horizontal wise in my living room over my couch. Mirrors are nice to have as decor.

I was blessed this month with 2 dz. farm fresh eggs and home grown tomatos. I boiled a dozen eggs and ate for breakfast and on salads. The tomatos were a tastsy fresh vegetable side. Have been cooking more at home as restaurants are expensive and only for specia loccasions now. 😊

I wish there was a separate "BIG THUMBS UP" button. 🙂 I sure would use it! What a great video! I loved seeing the powder room and the great budget buys and the frugal meal - that looked delicious! My big "savings" this week was actually stocking up on the fall sales Azure Standard was having. I was able to get my favorite butter for 20% off as well as 2 cases of yogurt for 20% off. I know as the yogurt gets close to the "use by" date, whatever I haven't used up in smoothies, I can salt and strain it and it will become delicious cream/Ricotta type cheese which I can then freeze. It's delicious on homemade pizza and also makes great dips for crudite by adding salt, olive oil, lemon juice and herbs. God bless you and Paul!

I like to give myself a budget if I go into DT. Sometimes $10 or $20 with at least a list of a few things I need. Now dollar general is my Kryptonite. May I also recommend that you paint the front of the outlet covers - they would blend in nicely.

I love your program and your ideas. They are right up my alley. I am fairly new to your program, or any program on You Tube for that matter. I did not realize these programs even existed until I bought a Roku device. Since right before retiring a few years ago, I began primarily cooking most meals at home and from scratch for myself and my husband. I've had a garden for years and learned how to can or freeze my veggies. More recently I'm learning a lot about better ways to preserve food for the long haul. I've been researching which food saver to buy but none have excellent reviews. Just wondering what type you use. Thank you for your programs. I love how your husband is involved in them as well. God bless you too.

Hi Emmy, re stickers, paper, seasonal tags, etc. At our Value Village, they sell prefilled bags that are clear (so you can see thru) just packed for like $3. Some VV's are better than others. 😉 These are what I use for Xmas cards, birthdays, to fancy up boxes that I mail to family & SO MUCH cheaper than any craft store and they work just as well. Happy Sunday 😊

I have advice that will definitely curtail overspending at dollar tree. Only buy things that are American made or can’t be found somewhere else made by a better option. 90% of dollar tree stuff is made in China. I will buy if it’s Japanese or another country but I try my best to avoid Chinese products. I’m not perfect but I try. Plus read labels, it might shock you!! Also slows you down a little so your brain catches up and says, “Hey wait a minute, that’s not what I want!”
@princessdumbarton9877Ай бұрын
I'm surprised at the amount of food that comes from China. I don't want food from China. America is a big country and we should be growing our own food. I know Chinese things are cheap but most are poorly made and they are really polluting the environment. It's better to get things from thrift shops if possible since America hardly makes anything anymore.

I saved money by making a pineapple upside down cake, using a pineapple which needed using up! I had a yellow cake mix,and am on a no egg diet (plant based for health reasons) so I made a flax egg substitute using ground flax meal and water,for 3 eggs. Worked perfectly! I used some dates syrup I had on hand because I was not going to go to the grocery store for brown sugar! I added some pecans to the topping/pineapple base. It was a huge hit and so easy. I was so inspired by your “be a blessing” video! I used up 5 green bell peppers and made a nice vegetable dish using your method and adding all the garbanzo beans I had in the fridge. We ate that with a baked potato, and side salad. We are cooking much more at home. I love your videos!
