I think it's incredible how far you've advanced on your own 50 miles away from civilization. It's a lot of work doing all those chores. I know you like living out there and there are definitely some pluses being off the grid and not having neighbors. Do you ever get lonely being all by yourself? I know when the sun goes down, there's a sense of peacefulness being away from the grind. I think you have really done a fantastic job doing all that. God bless ya Brother!

Great channel. I've watched most of your videos thus far. Let me say sandy lome will grow nearly anything provided there is enough humidity. Im in south Texas and number 1 thing I choose to grow is yellow squash because it gives the most food by weight throughout the year. They do well in mounds but expect them to cover an area of 3-4 ft squared, which could hog up sunlight. But with your idea of growing plants that grow up on the outer walls that leaves a lot of room. Pole beans, cucumbers and roma tomatoes would be ideal. Potatoes and radishes are fine in buckets. I used 1 bucket with a square cut out for my hand to fit and holes drilled out the bottom and placed inside another bucket with holes drilled out. Then I lift the inner buckets and harvest what I wanted. I am excited to see how your new garden comes along, and that plastic tarp draped over should help provide humidity in a dry climate.

Ive got an acre in southwest new mexico in agriculture area but zoning doesnt allow living in an rv without power sewer and well and no tiny homes under 600sf. Needless to say i am staying in my 5th wheel down the road from my land in an rv park while i gather resources to drill a well and setup solar and septic. Im going to be putting an earthbag home once i get the plans signed by an engineer and homesteading. The soil here is rich and anything you throw into it just grows. But i wish i could go about it the way you did but code enforcement even being 10 miles outside of town has made people move from their under 600sf tiny homes out here.

Hi neighbor, I too am in the high desert.. I'm just wondering what's the best way to start my compost bin.. I've got a tiny house with a bucket toilet so that's my compost.. no animals for me but need to get a shed built and a greenhouse would help too.
@FrugalOffGrid2 жыл бұрын
That depends on the county you're in. I would contact them for specifics. Otherwise without restrictions, you simply add manure, paper and vegetation like grass clippings. It will be compost in no time.

question? why dont you put your rabbits in one of your green houses, 1) they will add their manure to the planting areas,. 2) they might add a little extra heat to your plants,, try kale i grew it down in NEW MEXICO when i lived there, collards, mustards, zuccini , yellow crook neck squash, chilis, of course grew well, plus you can dehydrate all of these as well by thinly slicing them and hanging them out of your way,, keep up the great work!!
