They just wanted to take the air out of the ball and end the game, and I can only assume it's because they didn't want to give Clemson or Ohio State more film on their offense, they didn't want to risk injuries, etc. Between the referees and Alabama's offense not trying for over two quarters, I'm guessing there was at least 28 points left on the field, and that's just if I'm being generous, because in all reality Alabama could've hanged 60 on Notre Dame without breaking a sweat, they were that outmatched.

So I agree with coach. Out of 14 CFP semifinals that have been played only 3 teams have lost by fewer than 10 points and 10 have won by 17 points or more. The average margin a victory was 21.3 points in those games.

These ND teams that are borderline line this keep sneaking in and ruining the integrity of the playoffs. You got that backwards. The playoffs aren't a replacement to the bowl system. They are insurance that when #1 is named that it's named correctly. If #4 seed keeps getting blown out then there isn't an argument that maybe one of the 12 next in line could have done better. If the top 4 are all top tier THEN you have to ask how many of the next 2 or 4 or however many might also be. But so far 4 has usually proven to be 1 more than enough to prove who's the boss.

Besides, if you watched the game tonight, you noticed Nick Saban pulled the plugged right before the half, they just ran and ran and ran the ball to run the clock out. Alabama didn’t pass all that much in the second half. I thought it was salty to go for the onside kick when Nick and the Alabama team were showing Notre Dame mercy, if Alabama wanted to, I believe they would have easily put 45 on them if they wanted to run up the score, but Nick called off the dogs.

Notre Dame in the past 10 years in major bowl games that has championship aspirations, has never gotten within 17 points, you said you don’t have the players. I love the history of College football and the Fighting Irish are at the top of the list for those storied programs, but it just hasn't been the case for decades. The story has been the same for so long, "Any year that ND is relevant in the College Football landscape, the game is better", I agree with that, but in this National Championship or bust mentality the CFP has created, they have not been elite. There are only 4 programs that can make that claim and regrettably for Coach Kelly, under his direction, ND is not one of them

When you consider 50% of Alabama players couldn't play for ND because of academics It makes it hard to recruit at ND and Kelly has done a very good job. This is not a knock on Alabama player it's just a fact. It's easier to recruit at Alabama because you can take the less academic players and Alabama has a winning tradition. Just ask all the other SEC teams who get blown out by Alabama. It's like having the 1st, 2nd. 3rd, 4th and 5th pick in the first round every year. Kelly understands this and is moving in the right direction every year.

They used to have at least 2 cupcake games in Army and Navy. And a few others. The big matchup was SC. And SC used to smash them when SC was SC. This year they played in the ACC. The ACC is basically Clemson and everyone one else. FSU is dead since Jumbo went to A&M. Had Trevor not missed games due to Covid, ND would have been smashed 2x in the ACC and no playoffs. That’s Reality !

The media likes Notre Dame and they always have. Bottom line, they play patty cake schedules every year and when they find themselves in these big games, they can’t compete. Why? They are untested and their record gives them a false sense of how good they are. I don’t like Brian Kelly and I’ve always hated ND, but the man is not a bad coach and they were not a bad team this year. They were just not an elite team and until they they play tougher opponents during the season, they will never be able to win these big games. ‘91 or ‘92 was the last time ND was any good.

As usual... Notre Dame was over-rated! They get in the top 10 every year, based on history. Kelly is an average Coach. Reminds me of Tuberville when at Auburn... He won some surprise games but never got them to win the next level. Funny how Kelly has nothing but excuses, even after he had all the answers last week! Kelly stated that after his last loss to Alabama in the NC, he recruited to be like Alabama. The problem is, Alabama, and the game of football as a whole, are totally different monsters compared to what they were back then. Kelly is still a day late and a dollar short!!! ND year in and year out is probably THE most overrated team in the United States. They joined the ACC instead of the Big 10 where geography would be, for them, a natural fit to duck weekly tough games. They play about two or three significant teams a year. I know they can usually beat Air Force, Army, Boston College, etc. But they do not and never have matched up with Ohio State, Michigan, etc. Sure, they win one once in a while, because by the time they get to somebody good they're well rested. All of the talk about their "superior" academics is almost comical. Department by department, they might not even be the best academic institution in Indiana, and they absolutely, positively aren't academically in the same conversation as Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois or Northwestern. Not even close. Wonder how they'd do if they had to tee it up against Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio State, NOrthwestern and MIchigan on successive Saturdays. They'd get their clock cleaned, exactly the way Alabama cleaned their clock. Nick Sabin treated them with kid gloves after it became clear that they weren't even in the game, or ever going to be in the game. Yes, they "competed" in the sense that they put on the tacky golden helmets that their heads are way too big for.

I mean geography is probably the exact reason they didn't join the Big 10. One of the big reasons ND is CFB lore is their country-side schedule (USC, Stanford, Miami, BC) no matter how good the teams are. Joining the Big 10 would just turn recruiting into a shoving match for them, instead of the wide range they put out now. It might not be the easy move but it's more in their long term interest.
