Chuck the truck at the 23:51 mark probably wasn't trying to roll coal at you because the blue Jeep in front of it was slowing down to to get into the left turn lane. He was probably accelerating back up the the speed limit.

Chuck - your comments to CT FSD newbie’s is point on. I am a Tesla, truck, and FSD NEWBIE and am absorbing the carrier launch experience into the future. Wow! I’m a long time follower and really appreciate your test drives and your insightful narratives. I just want to say that I have never experienced anything like the CT and adding FSD has been other worldly (not perfect, but extremely gratifying). Before retiring 6 years ago, I was deeply immersed in the high tech IT world (both on the hardware and software side) for a very major aerospace company. All of that experience has not prepared me for this jump in technology. I feel like I am in Michael J. Fox’s skin in “Back to the future!” 😂😂😂😂😂 Oh, and the fact that you are a beekeeper touches old memories of when my dad and I had a few colonies 5 decades ago - after all these years I still can’t part with the old hand crank barrel extractor I have taking up space in my garage. Thanks for all you do - it is very much appreciated! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

At 6:19 it seems to me that it just got into the wrong lane and then decided at the last second to change back when it wasnt safe to do so, if you see the nav is telling it that it should be in the right off-ramp but it just went into the left one for no reason so Id say its a navigation related issue or its just a situation where the car should rely on vision rather than just map data.

@@ChuckCook I do feel the need to point out a potential minor, no doubt unintended, hypocrisy however. You warn new FSD and/or pickup truck drivers to operate the system as Tesla recommends. I believe that current builds still explicitly recommend that drivers keep hands on the wheel during operation, and you don’t do that.

Another Good video Chuck. As far as the lane shift goes. It looked to me like FSD may have seen that white line and believed there to be another lane there to the right, attempting to get into that specific lane. And I think you're right about FSD changing lanes for an upcoming turn early enough is more about our comfort. My MY routinely waits longer than I would like to get into the proper lane for an upcoming turn. But I continue to let do it's thing and somehow it's always squeezed in. Actually it's amazing. Keep up the great work.

Hi Chuck, thanks for the videos, stay safe out there. The lane change @6:11 does not make sense, 1) it crosses into the split for the left offramp which results in a nav route change clearly viable @6:26 and 2) it crosses a solid line. At the split @6:18 it was almost as if it was trying to go back to the right offramp.

Thanks Chuck. While I am grateful to the magic makers at Tesla for finally getting FSD to our CTs ... we do indeed have to maintain vigilant eyes on the road ahead... albeit with less stressed eyes ... with this 1st FSD CT version. We know that incremental FSD improvement updates will continue to install periodically. What has my cautious imagination working overtime ... is the potential for some celebrity CT owner to make FSD a BIG BAD in our popular culture ... by NOT catching an FSD driving judgement error in time and causing a bad collision. One can imagine the impact of various governmental investigations recommending various prohibitions on any genre of 'self driving' software. All of us CT and other Tesla model owners, famous or not ... just gotta BE CAREFUL OUT THERE as SFSD morphs towards its true driverless update.

Chuck, I agree that it was likely map data causing the lane drift issue. The map data does not have layers/floors today, which could confuse FSD. I have had the issue in ASS where I'm trying to have the car come to me in the above parking lot, but the car navigates to the same point below me. So maps needs 3D understanding to be more precise, which could include speed limit differences.

I have a 2023 model 3 and it does not have IR sensors like newer cars This being said, on the highway when there’s cars coming in the other direction at night, there’s enough illumination that things are fine with vision monitor… however if you are on a smaller road and there’s not a lot of traffic coming from the other way and it’s dark, you’re gonna lose your vision monitor. There are several fixes and one of them I find to be the least intrusive to my daily routine. You can open the mirror light on the passenger sunvisor to get light from there, you can turn on the cabin light, which would probably be distracting to you and other drivers, or you could change your screen to light mode. That may work for some people however I still appreciate dark mode at night. I like my cabin dark as possible so the best work around which I have found, is take your screen on dark mode , turn off auto dimming and change it to 75% brightness or more. That will give you enough illumination that you shouldn’t have the vision monitoring go off. It’s not the best workaround, but it does work. And is least intrusive into most people‘s routine. I already tried to get Tesla to put a new IR camera in my car however they said it’s not compatible and at this point it’s probably just too hard to do as it seems the IR cameras do have another wire that my camera doesn’t seem to be equipped with when you look at the parts on the Tesla website. Please give us a thumbs up if it helps you because it took me a while of testing to get this done to figure this out because I do drive at night on dark interstates or dark 2 lane roads and definitely want to keep vision monitoring active. It’s a good thing. It’s totally not a wash… that would just be really bad for so many cars that don’t have the infrared. I do think at some point they may offer some kid of a retrofit possibly but that time is it now. And there is a possibility as the autonomous level of the car, progresses, vision, monitoring, and any monitoring may be not necessary one day.

So how about a 2 lane 55mph highway that goes down to a 35mph area in a small town. Previously, I would get to a "35mph Ahead" sign and it would keep going 55 until it got to the actual 35mph sign and then brake heavily to get to 35mph. Not comfortable or efficient and for a ways you will be speeding which can get you a ticket. Also school zones.

At 4:50 my Lightning definitely had a pair of IR LEDs and receivers (I am assuming it used IR retna reflection between the two) as blocking either the A pillar IR or the center console IR would cause it to nag to pay attention. Thanks Chuck. Great camera views until the aftermarket techology adapts to the cybertruck. I would not expect the bumper camera to be included in the initial issue of FSD for the cybertruck. When it is included, it will extend the internal rendered 3D/4D FSD maps. At this time, FSD for the cybertruck is probably based upon regerative datasets created by the Tesla Training System 2.0 for the cybertruck. They would be generated from existing Model 3 and Y datasets. Those datasets do not have the extended mapping provided by the bumper camera. I liked your discussion of nearly up-to-date real-world geomapping (U2D RWG). When available nearly U2D RWG could help solve many FSD issues including mapping lane routing including right and left turn only lanes and no U turn locations, double yellow line barriers, HOV entry and exit zones, school zones, and no turn on red lanes. It could even be used to create exit lane change zones based upon traffic conditions. Be ready for a deluge of new and updated real world AI applications at We Robot. Wish we could there with you. 😎

11:00 into the video - As a technical person, I actually prefer the older FSD developer display with the camera feed and overlayed boxes around world objects and metrics like %probability of "blinded" and "rain" and things like that. I feel like the current UI might be great for your average lay person, but for someone like myself it just hides too much. Not sure if it's because I played Eve Online a while back so I'm used to UI "clutter" and can easily make sense of it, to me - the boxes are a confirmation that the computer is 100% seeing something rather than it being an unknown. I also very much work with % of probability with everything in life so not having that available leads to a hair-raising adrenaline-inducing ride at times with FSD.

I'm assuming training data was mainly gathered from the fleet of cybertrucks which is a reason why it wasn't available at launch. they might also have transposed the car training data with some rough perspective transformation to match the camera positions with maybe some considerations for the vehicle size. Taking from Model X might be a fairly close analog. Maybe throwing a ton of data in the initial training and limit to cybertruck data for fine tuning.. maybe. You can to some extent use simulations but the nuances of reality are just easier to get from real video. Curious drift it did. Those stripe triangles are apparently called gores. old word for triangle plot of land.

I encountered a Tesla vehicle today that kept slowing infront of me quite a bit but the break lights never lit up unless at a stop light. Hopefully you see my message 😊
@danielthomson83413 ай бұрын
It will illuminate the brake lights if the car is slowing down at a rate above some threshold, whether from human input or FSD. For example, (using made up numbers) if the car is slowing down more than 5 MPH per second, it will illuminate the brake lights. At least that's how it used to work, there's always the possibility that a bug was introduced at some point.

As an Australian I just can’t believe that there can be a 50mph zone and most people are doing 70mph. Maybe part reason the auto deaths per capita are SO much higher in USA (12.8 per 100,000 vs 4.8 in Australia)? Over here, that wd be the equivalent of doing over 110kmh in an 80kmh zone. You’d be almost certain to get caught by either a speed camera or a cop with a radar, and get a whopping great fine. I wd think if/when FSD is applied here, the regulators will apply a strict speed limit rule ie if the speed limit is 80kph, FSD cannot exceed 80kph. Equivalent to the “NTSA stop”. I’ve had tickets here for doing 66kmh in a 60 zone, 110kmh in a 100 zone, and I’ve been ticketed for a “rolling stop” at a stop sign.

Lane changing decisions seem to be the biggest issue. It shouldn’t be hard for the system to move over sooner for less stressful driving. Its weird they haven’t fixed that. In heavy traffic I’ll look to move sometimes 2-3 km’s from the off ramp as soon as an easy gap is available. Just common sense
