FSX Steam Edition First Look!

All those years of my childhood playing a cracked copy like a dirty pirate. I was so happy to finally purchase a copy at a reasonable price on Steam. It's just as awesome as I remembered it. As a bonus, it's got the acceleration pack included. Im also glad they pushed online gameplay to steamworks since gamespy died. The only bugs im noticing that I never did years ago are minor audio jumps/glitches which aren't really big issues and may just be a compatibility issue with windows 8.1. Either way, that's not even a big problem since I spend most of my time free flying opposed to doing missions.

just picked up FSX Steam Edition yesterday. Was still playing FS2002 and decided to take the plunge since it was £3.99 in the Winter Sale. Looking forward to picking up my pilot's badges and re-doing the tutorials before I jump into multiplayer but my goodness, multiplayer working right out of the box was a big selling point for me. Thanks for this video, the updated sim looks wonderful!

Not to be picky, but may I ask what happened at 6:00? It's like your audio started over again at the beginning even though the video portion continued. Then at 10:46, there seems to be another audio cut where you start talking about something completely different. My question is, what did you discuss between 6m00s and 10m46s that got cut out?

You should have no problem with that for the base sim. Its the CPU that is the biggest factor with FSX:SE not GPU.

Have they gone as far as making it DX10 optimized? Kind of like what Steve's DX10 Fixer did? That is a hugely important step in getting FSX ready for steam IMO.

I have fsx se, it worked fine for a while but after that it wouldn't start and all I could see was the splash screen. I reinstalled it and it works fine now. So what's causing this to happen and how can I prevent it from happening again? Please help me. Oh yeah, the same thing happened on my boxed version previously as well.

79Sarwar Your ORBX and REX and other add ons will install no problems if you do not have your deluxe installed. If you do there are some issues and manula file copying required. Both REX studios and ORBX are working on this currently.

Question for anyone: Is the aerodynamic contrail on a landing/departing jet (condensation on the wing surfaces and in the center of the vortices coming from the outside ends of the deployed flaps) a feature that is only in FSX: SE or is that determined by the aircraft add-on publisher? Is it available in FS2004?

I was hoping they would have worked on the DX10 issue. Some add ons just don't work well in that mode, which is a pity as there are some nice effects when Dx10 preview is turned on. Also, is the rain on the windshield in 3d view sill missing? It used to work in FS 2004.

Audio for 2nd segment(takeoff) is the same as the beginning segment. This is pretty much a commercial for Steam. Didn't give me any reason to change over from FSX.

Yes, I believe that if u reverse the polarity (clockwise vs counterclockwise) of the eye travel around your plane in spot view-- by reversing the key assignments on the keyboard; it automatically reverses the camera control on the hat-switch of the joystick as well.

Yes, I can't quite remember what I did, but I seem to recall messing with something similar, because as I recall there was something inherently wrong about the way it worked in FSX as compared to FS9. Good luck.

Thanks for your video- you say the steam version of FSX is the same as the original boxed/dvd disc 'Deluxe' version- I have the original boxed/DVD deluxe version.... If I purchased the steam version for my father as a gift (we live in different countries)- could I fly online in multiplayer with him at the same with my original boxed/DVD deluxe version of FSX or will I still need to additionally purchase the steam version for myself? Also do freeware and payware additional aircraft successfully install to the steam version OK? Thanks for your reply

justinspirational Unfortunately the Boxed and Steam editions are not compatible multiplayer wise, both users need to have the same version. Addons will function with the Steam Edition, some better than others. REX4 works fine, Orbx is a mixed bag, some do however any that require their objectflow.dll will not function. There is a great thread on the Steam support forums where users are leaving their feedback about what is working and what isn't.

Nicholas Leung Essentially addons that require FSUIPC by Pete Dawson will not function at this time. There are some issues with Mega Scenery Earth installers as well. But the vast majority of aircraft and scenery add-ons run perfect!

I wish I saw this review before I wasted my money on Xplane 10, cause my main concern for flight simulator X was does it run on multi core processors, and after watching this video I think I got my answer. Thanks for this video m8! PS. I know xplane 10 is a great game but its lacks the airports, A lot of the airports! and unlike FSX where you can actually start at the docks and taxi all the way to the runway, it also lacks *But I'm not sure here* the ATC game play, its silly yes but its also fun to know that someone online might take control of an ATC near by and it makes the online gaming more fun! sorry for the long post ^__^

I love FSX Steam Edition. I downloaded it last Sunday (March 29, 2015) and I love it. It has all airports in teh world built into it and my favorite plane to fly is the World Travel 737-800. Unfortunately, last night I was playing FSX and the ATC window was open and I focused on it more than the plane. I was selecting an ATC option. So I stalled on takeoff and I hope to do better next time. The end.

FSX is one of the more painful games to get working, I'm still trying to figure it out, but I suspect that it uses TrackIRs newer (encrypted) system so you need a name-brand Tracking system.
