Here's several practical ways to use the ADF to navigate in poor visibility. I explain the pros and cons of Homing, Tracking and Bracketing and demonstrate each navigation technique (the best I can!).

There was one occasion where I, bizarrely enough, saw just the blue rectangle (indicating DME without VOR). I thought "this might be a tad useless."

Hello! Where is the DME located in A2A C172? THanks!

Same location as the default 172 in FSX, in the radio stack however you would need to have a full radio stack selected and not one of the stacks which has a GPS integrated.

I was flying out of Graz, Austria in the A2A C182 Skylane and I tuned to the VOR/DME at Graz and another nearby VOR/DME was tuned on my other NAV radio. 113.10 and 116.20 if memory serves. I took off and climbed to about 4000 feet, then I clicked on NAV1 and listened for a long time. No signal was received. I tried the NAV2 radio button. Still no signal. Then I clicked on the DME button in conjunction with the NAV1 button and I heard the morse code. There is clearly a difference between the two planes. I'm going to guess the A2A C182 is a more accurate representation, unless there is some other explanation. Great video series BTW.

Ah, in the A2A aircraft, there's a small control you need to pull out on the radio stack for the Morse Code to be heard. There should be a little knob on the radio stack with the words "PULL IDENT" beside it. When the knob is pulled out and the Nav button is pressed, then you should be able to hear the morse code.
