I have never heard of Kotu Roti. I lived in what was the former Dominion of British Ceylon from April 1954 to 12 April 1961. My father a Chief Marine Engineer was posted to that country by Lloyds of London to effect repairs on the Shaw Saville Liner ss "GOTHIC, which was the ship used by Her Majesty and Prince Phillip on their tour of the Commonwealth. Dad's contract was extended several times until 1960 when the family decided to emigrate to Australia. Lloyds secured a position of Chief Engineer for the old man and we departed never to return. I remember the names of all the dishes you have mentioned but never heard or tasted Kotu Roti.

Although I'm not an expert, I'm pretty sure Kottu might not have been invented at the time. 😂😎 I remember hearing about the dish for the first time as a kid in the late '80s. So, I guess it was invented in the '70s. During the first few decades, it was called "Kottu Roti," and later "roti" was dropped.

Milk rice and Kawum are the main traditional dishes in the Sri lanka . Foods like Watalappam are not staples . Almost all the traditional dishes made at the Sri lankan Festivals are sweet . Nor are they carnivorous . Thank you 🙂❤️

You missed milk rice.it's our main traditional food. I think Black pork curry , ambulthiyal( fish dishes) and Pol roti more than famous crab among sri lankans.but Crab is a popular Sri Lankan dish on the foreigners.it's ok.i know this selection is very difficult.

You've just missed the most famous dish in SL which is made with coconut milk, that's none other than Kiri bath (Kiri means Milk and bath means rice). It's made in every house in SL whenever there is an occasion. It goes with the same Lunumiris which was included in your video with No 9. I think for the best top 10 food in SL Kiribath must be included for your kind information dear. 😍 Anyway thanks for the introducing our foods to the world. (I must say as much as you find Crabs are not famous in SL as other foods.😷🤢🤮)

I think though it’s not the most popular with Sri Lankans, the foreigners love to eat the crab curry. And personally as a Sri Lankan, I absolutely love the crab curry. I think instead of including just the crab like how it was in the video, the variety of the crab curry like the Jaffna crab curry would have been more accurate.
