FTL: Faster Than Light - Lanius A Full Playthrough - Difficult Times

Hey Guys! In this video I try to take on the flagship with the Lanius A, a pretty good ship that actually struggled a bit during the midgame of this run. What would you guys have done differently on this run? Let me know in the comments!

Giant Alien Spiders: Even a level 1 clone bay can save your crewmember if he dies, though of course there's skill loss.

I find playing with clone bays really funky, it opens up a lot of really strange strats if you are willing to say "screw crew training" and allow people to die. You can airlock your whole ship to delete boarders, you can keep teleporting in more and more people to swarm a ship. You can use a gunship alongside boarding and do both, letting the away team sabotage repair while you pound the ship to dust (Federation C is very good at this). You can even keep your crew at full health by airlocking them and respawning them before moving beacons. Don't get me wrong though, medbay is superior because it fits the core gameplay better and is less of a glassjaw if it gets taken offline. Offline databanks sorta fixes the problem, but in a roguelike, needing rng to give you an additional item to "fix" something automatically de-ranks it. The scrap and power ratio seems a bit off too, since you can play the whole game with lvl 1 medbay easily, but I wouldnt want anything less than lvl 2 clone and lvl 2 boarding to bother with a clone setup.

Meanwhile, in FTL Multiverse where you can build Backup DNA Banks and Reconstructive Teleporter at will: I can't ever go back to using a Medbay in any sort of boarding strategy.

@@spearmintz1 you should play the multiverse mod. It’s a huge mod and it adds a ton of Ships, weapons, events, Sectors, and new Alien races.

Hey Spearmintz, do you think vanilla FTL is balanced well enough? I am a new player, only have 20 hours and I tried Twinge's balance mod and game felt much better. Then tried insurrection mod, it also felt better balanced than vanilla game. How do you feel about game balance? Btw love your vids they're helping me a lot learning the game!

I do think FTL has a few balancing issues, as some systems and weapon set ups are simply better than others. There’s a reason I always try to go with cloaking, a few laser projectiles and a beam in most runs. I’ve played the balance mod as well and like it quite a bit, but I think most items are priced relatively fairly in vanilla. The RNG required to find certain items balances out the cost of amazing items like BL2 and long range scanners. Since I’ve played the game for hundreds of hours I know how to maximize my opportunities to get scrap and good items, but for someone learning the game I think the pricing and relative rarities of items is perfectly fine!
