I am a transgender teen (13 years old) and you help me so much. I go by Skylar now and use male pronouns (Just haven't changed my yt) and I didn't think it would feel this amazing. Wearing more masculine clothes makes me feel super happy, and idk if this is normal but when I put on feminine clothes I just feel weird and awkward and when I put on masculine clothes I feel happy and free. Being trans is basically living a double life and that's the hard part (minus the dysphoria)

A lot of this still rang true to me as a cis gay person. I thought coming out would be that "magic wand" you referred to. It was a huge weight off my shoulders and I was super elated for a while.. until all my previous anxieties snuck back up on me, crushing me. It was completely disheartening to think I didn't need to worry about them anymore and then have them sneak up on me. I'm still trying to dig myself out, but I'm learning it's okay to not get there overnight.

Your words about the hand gestures actually really helped. I feel like I'm way too feminine with them. I'm worried if I come out people will call me fake. What if I was wrong this entire time and I'm actually just a girl? That thought scares me because I know I'm not but I can never explain why I'm trans. But anyways, I feel way more confident now that you've said that. Thank you.

I was thinking... Could you do a video on what you miss about presenting as a girl? Often, the moment you show an implication of being the opposite gender, trans people get told they're fake (not true). I know I miss being very touchy-feely with my friends or much of the fashion/style. Of course, I could totally do all of that now, but I'll easily be read as a female and I'd sacrifice style over being dysphoric. What about you?

I remember in my early childhood seeing a story on TV about a trans people (specifically trans kids) and it caught my attention. I found myself watching KZbin videos about ftm transitions and learning as much as I could. To this day I have been told I have masculine mannerisms, that I think like a boy, I’ve been told I look like a boy and that I have a very solid almost masculine build (I’m tall for my age and chubby), hell I even got a pixie cut then I was 5. I have always felt so uncomfortable in my body and I have recently decided to stop ignoring this fact, but the problem is idea of fully transitioning scares me, I love it but my brain tells me I’m going to regret it (mainly because I don’t alway hate being feminine) and it’s all so confusing. Anyways rambled finished I just wanna say your videos helped me a lot when I was younger and I want to thank you, and hopefully I’ll be able to figure out my gender and accept myself. Once again, Thank you

Thank you for this. I'm in the process of experimenting with social transitioning and it does worry me how much it would really help. But the best part of this video for me was when you said your body language and mannerisms don't determine your gender or sexuality because I don't actually want to change my body language or mannerisms because then I feel I wouldn't be presenting as my true self... And since I view transitioning as me showing my true self it would take away the whole perpose for me if I had to change these things 😊

About the anxiety thing, my therapist think it exists because of multiple aspect of my life. The first thing could be because i am trans and i have body dysphoria, so im not confident and cant present myself how i want to people. The second is because kids harrassed for seven years straight and i wasnt realising it back then. The third is because i haf a child trauma involving my parents, i thought they would leave me, i wasnt used to get around others until 7...etc My therapist think that the fact im transgender is a big side of my anxiety, but with my anxiety trust issues comes along and my trust issues arent related that much to my trans identity aparently. S Just telling that it depends on people, maybe your identity have nothing to do at all with your anxiety, maybe its the only thing that cause you anxiety, maybe its one of the thing, maybe its the big part, the small part...etc its different for everyone. But if you struggle with dysphoria and anxiety, please go see a therapist, find one that fits you, i did and now i know what is linked to what and we can finally see how to work things out.

Super useful video! Thank you for making it, it's good to keep it real and know that, while transitioning is a fantastic thing, there are problems it can't solve and aspects of it which may work differently for different people. For example I see a lot of people who've been on T for a while and have fantastic beards, but there's no guarantee I'm gonna have one too! Same goes for the psychological/social side of transitioning: some people may not experience depression after transitioning, but others definitely do. Anyway, thanks again~

Tbh a problem about transitioning in my sense (gonna hopefully start T in the next couple of months yeet) is that my first encounter of an "official person" was at CAMHS. CAMHS is awful, try Young Minds, or literally any other organisation for mental health related issues. Just see your doctor, situation permitting. Anyway: CAMHS kept trying to say that my anxiety and depression were because I was trans, but I know that they are separate issues, especially the depression. Part of the anxiety does come from how I will be percieved in public. But say I am percieved correctly; I'm still terrified of those social situations. I also just get struck by random anxiety attacks. If they were because I'm trans there'd be an identifiable stressor, therefore it would be a panic attack instead. And yeah, I'm sad that I can't magically right now have the effects of T and top surgery. But that isn't why I can't get out of bed in the morning, or get dressed, or shower, or feed myself. The reason for that is because I'm depressed, and I need help to get myself steady again. Sometimes it's not just the people who are transitioning that need to know what it can't change, it's also the people potentially enabling the transition, those in the position of power. Thank you for yet another video Jamie, your perspective is always refreshing ^ - ^

*this isn't really relevant but I still wanna say it* Coming out and transitioning did a lot for me emotionally, it just took a while (we're speaking like a year, which was when I changed schools and got a fresh start AS A GUY). I'm still really shy and socially awkward, but as a "girl" I only spoke to close friends or family members and would occasionally say a sentence or two to a classmate but RARELY spoke outside my home, I also went days saying barely anything anything and when I did it was quiet and I stuttered - speaking was a physical and emotional struggle unless I was 100% comfortable with the person I was around. That changed after I socially transitioned and people started seeing me as a guy (I still stutter a bit but it's barely noticeable, most people don't even notice unless I point it out). Communicating is much easier now and I can even order food and things like that (still get nervous about phone calls though). Now I'm looking forward to starting T, which will probably happen within a year or two ^^ I have no idea if anyone else has a similar story, but if you do, hey, now you know you're not alone with that!
