Nords are resistant to frost because Skyrim is cold. Dunmer are resistant to fire because Morrowind is volcanic. Bretons are resistant to magic because there’s a ton of natural mages flinging spells around willy-nilly.

Argonians are resistant to disease because Black Marsh is a hostile environment with many viruses and carriers. Bosmer are resistant to poison because there are toxic plants, insects, and animals in Valenwood. Redguards are resistant to poison because... I don't know, maybe there are a lot of assassination attempts that go on in Hammerfell or something? Orcs are resistant to damage because being pissed off enough can distract your senses enough from pain to a certain extent. High Elves are resistant to self-esteem problems because they're pretentious jackasses. Imperials are resistant to persecution and poverty because they're white. And Kajit are resistant to concepts like laws because they're goddamn cats and cats don't give a shit about rules, personal space, the concept of empathy, etc.

The Bretons are a mixture of Nedes, Aldmer, and Nords. The reachmen are similar, but they also have some Orsimer blood in them. The biggest difference between the Bretons and the people of the Reach is that the Bretons have French names and the Reachmen have Celtic names. There is a real life group of people called Bretons. They are descendants of Brittish Celts who fled southern England when the Anglo-Saxons invaded back in 5th and 6th centuries. They crossed the channel and settled in the area of Northwestern France that is now called Brittany. They have their own language and culture, but this inspired the developers to create the Bretons of High Rock.

You want to know why the Altmer are weak to magic but the Bretons aren't? Game balance. In all honesty, it's likely that your hypothesis of interbreeding with Nords was correct. That, and, being the lowest class of society, they were likely tortured by the Altmer. After enduring enough of a specific form of strife, one becomes more resistant to it. Like the Nordic frost resist.
@ingonyama706 жыл бұрын
There would have had to have been an uprising at some point. I would imagine the proto-Bretons either made a pact with someone (Clavicus Vile is the most likely suspect, though Azura, Boethiah, or even Hermaeus Mora aren't completely out of the question) or just inured themselves to it somehow, so that they COULD rise up.
@unrulycrow62996 жыл бұрын
The Bretons weren't tortured by the Altmer though. The Direnni Hegemony was extremely chill, especially compared to all the bullshit done by the Ayleids in Cyrodiil. The Bretons were just a lower class, and took over when the Direnni Hegemony fell. Now, the mix of Nede, Altmeri and Nordstrom blood could indeed justify the high resistance to magic. But if it was caused by the torture of the Altmer, then it would be the Imperials who'd get that bonus, rather than the Bretons.

Klose klöm Dwemer were just a kind of elf who asceneded out of out realm through enlightenment (Most think they did so using C.H.I.M). The falmer are just Dwemer who couldn't ascend and turned feral as well as blind when the Dwemer subterranean sun died.after generations these feral elves changed more and more until finally turning in the grotesque and pitiful creatures that we know.
@wowo20176 жыл бұрын
casey chapman You are so wrong. The Dwemer were extremely intelligent and didn't believe in God's or at least thought of them as lesser compared to there own intellect. casey chapman The Falmer are Snow Elves that sold themselves into slavery for protection from Nords who they were losing a war too The Dwemer experimented on the Snow Elves by making them eat a mysterious fungus that caused them to go blind and years after the Dwemer dissapeared the Snow Elves began to mutate as a combination of the fungus and life underground changed them and fueled by the betrayal of the Dwemer fueled the increased agresstion against outsides and as they became more feral they became openly violent toward all outsiders even taking slaves and sacrificing them to there own gods

So I've been kicking a theory for a while now. What if argonians aren't really a race at all? Hear me out. Argonians take lots of forms. Lizards, snakes, toads, birds, even some mammalian forms. What if they aren't any uniform species that diversified. What if "argonians" are just the hosts of the Hist trees' parasitic pollen/sap? The Hist are a race of sentient, magical, psijic-esque trees. What if they crafted the argonian races to be emissaries to the races of men and mer. The Hist get some devine foresight or whatever. They see all these races conquering the continent. And how they would march into black marsh, burning everything in sight. So the trees jump the gun and start infecting the local fauna. Snakes, toads, birds, and of course, the lizards that live in Hist branches and eat harmful insects. Fast forward more than a few generations, Aldmer explorers start crashing black marsh's gates. Only they get sent packing by toxic swamps, killer bugs, and "savage lizard-men". All orchestrated by the Hist as a self-preservation tactic.

The answer is a hard "probably." Redguards are from Yokuda, and Yokuda is known to still exist in some form and is still accessible. However, there is also evidence that the Redgards are from a previous cycle due to how different their gods and how their magic works. Essentially, it is entirely possible that the ocean may act as a method of travel between different kalpa cycles, with places like Yokuda, Atmora, and Akavir being entire different timelines of Nirn.

I’ve watched this video many time because I love the elder scrolls and the lore, I have had a thought about the origins of the Orcs and Chimer, I would say that when Boethiah “ate” Trinimac she may have just trapped him in her realm for so long that he became corrupted by it, a Daedric princes realm is an extension of themselves, and time only flows if they want it to, so Boethiah “eating” Trinimac doesn’t have to be so literal, and the event itself could have been what changed the Aldmer followers to the Orcs and Chimer. Just had to comment that, love the videos. Are we getting another 5 things we want from elder scrolls 6 or could you be going into more details on what you’ve already done?

That theory at 16:15 kind of makes sense, but enviromental changes should not be disregarded since the mutations that occurred with the two groups of atmorans varied during the geographic isolation of both. They may descend from the same human group, but just as the Amerindians are different from their Siberian ancestors, they no longer have the same genetic makeup, because of the different genetic mutations in geographically isolated Siberians in Asia and geographically isolated Amerindian in America. The same can be said of needs and atmorans. Just as the genetic mutations of the ancient atmoras gave birth to the pure blood atmorans, the genetic mutations of the atmorans who came to Tamriel earlier gave rise to the needs, so technically the nords would be 75% atmorans and 25% needs, but as the needs are a race emerged from the ancient atmorans so that would make it part atmoran and part tamrielic, which would eventually result in the nords being 87.5% atmorans and 12.5% Tamrielic-Atmorans (Have to think in a better name for these tamriel adapted atmorans). Maybe i'm just talking shit but that's what I think of this.

As for how the Bretons could have acquired magic resistance, perhaps it could result from Nordic magic resistance amped up by the strong magical affinity of the Altmer. If I recall, Nords in Morrowind were resistant not only to frost (to which they are immune) but also to shock (which they resist at 50%). So maybe the ancient Atmorans were very magic resistant and this combined with the Altmeri magic affinity resulted in the Breton magic resistance.

Remember how the Khajit creation myth mentioned that Lorkhaj was given birth to in the Void? Well, that's a bad thing. The Khajit view Lorkhaj as sort of Evil. You see, the Khajit believe in these "Evil ancestor spirits" known as the Dro-M'athra. They are said to be connected to Lorkhaj, and that if a Khajit hears the beat of Lorkhaj's drum (Note that a heartbeat sounds like a Drum, which fits the story of the Aedra ripping Lorkhan's heart out) becomes a Bent Cat, eventually succumbing to Lorkhaj's will and joining the Dro-M'athra. There's a lot of stories about them in ESO, where one of the end-game Trials is called the Maw of Lorkhaj. In it, you have to cleanse a holy Khajiti Shrine from Lorkhaj's influence and destroy the Dro-M'athra invaders. As Mentioned in the video, many people don't see ESO as canon, but personally I find the Story of about Lorkhaj and the Dro-M'athra canon. I'm not sure if they are mentioned in other games or out of game canon sources though.

@andrewrauch58074 жыл бұрын
You're right, with the moons of the Elder Scrolls, both facts appear to be true. It could be explained like this, since Lorkhan was literally a god it could be argued that even his dead body still contains some of his god powers. It just happened that the Khajiit were, at the time, nothing more than desert panthers, and for some reason the magic locked on to them and the next generation born changed due to the moon's positions.

I came up with a theory for how the khajiit were made: just before lorkan I believe he foresaw the fall of man so he created the khajiit to gain the elves trust so when the time was right the khajiit gods would give one of them a vision or dream like in tes 3 Morrowind to tell him/her to rally the khajiit up to assist man this would explain why they worship the moons which is lorkans corpse. So... i just remember playing this game that was suspicious like the original elder scrolls like.... 20 years ago. A major plot point was that elves lacked a sliver of divinity, whereas humans retained their fragment, and it was a major driving factor in their battles. Elves were jealous of the divinity humans had obtained; humans liked the advanced cultural, magical, and technical insight held by the elves. With that said, the Deep Ones, Hermaeus Mora, and the sload are kind of the wild card in all this. The Sload aren't technically in Elder Scrolls 5, but the Seekers and the tentacles in Hermaeus Mora's realm might be a thing. The Argonians, with the ability to breath underwater, seem like they would be heavily influenced by the Sload.

OK, here’s my speculation. Given the pariah abbey, and thus High Rock’s strong association with Azura - the prince of magic, perhaps their magical resistance was a blessing from the chillest of the Daedra princes. We Bretons can’t go to Sovngarde, the Nords don’t consider us one of their own (despite some sources claiming Atmoran ancestry), the Aldmeri of course look down on us as mongrels; likewise so do the Imperials, who are Nedic/Atmoran. We are the left out in the race of men. Taking pity on us, Azura bestowed the gift on Bretons, leading to our potent magical abilities and resistance.
@Diamondlad6 жыл бұрын
I think that Bretons are resistant to magic because they can use it effectively because of their elf blood but due to the over tipping of the balance of nord blood than elf blood the Bretons are not flooding with magic like high elves and so are not effected by it

The Dovah came to Skyrim from Akavir and basically enslaved the nordic race there. The snow elves had enslaved the nords but since the Dovah worshiping priests learned the thuum they over threw the snow elves and basically history went it's course where the nords became basically Nazis and took over all of the surrounding countries and all the other races hated them and joined together to beat them up till Skyrim became just the small hold it is now. The nords also taught the thuum to each other so more than just he priests could use it and over threw the Dovah.

Man I started playing TES back in Oblivion days, and even though that does not seem long ago in term of TES games, it must have been 15ish years ago. And I still remember most of the phases of favorite characters I went through. Not knowing anything about the lore at first, I just picked the default Imperial, never even customized them. The more I learned about the lore, the more I started switching them around, usually going for wood elf, dark elf or high elf characters. When Skyrim eventually came around I actually started going more into the lore rather then just what I saw in game (and eventually started reading the ingame books too) Before TESO came out there was still a lot of unknowns about the Argonians, and I had a phase where I exclusively played them for a while. Ultimately after many periods of playing and learning about most of the races, I usually end up with a Breton though. Mixed blood of man and mer, who have a society with knightly orders. And due to the mixed blood with elves, magic is something common sight too. So they are actually the posterchild for spell knights.

My favorite characters that I like to play between all three games is, a character named Xia Tz (Sha Tss) who is a Wood Elf that was born and raised in Akavir, as a slave of the Tsaesci being rescued by one of the Monkey people and brought to safety, spending his first 30 or so years growing up in this environment eventually he approached and pledged his allegiance to the great tiger dragon. Becoming his champion trained in the ways of heavy armor, two handed swords, restoration and alteration magic, and enchanting he was sent on a journey to tamriel not as a userper but as a seeker of knowledge something that could be brought back to give Akavir the edge in the future invasions. On this journey Xia Tz found the Aedric faith and betrayed his bonds of his homeland, becoming a paladin of Akatosh, he journeyed all over walking as the companion even to the great nereverine, standing with him against the ash vampires, the werewolf threats and the treachery of the Tribunal, after many centuries of heroism and travel and mastery of the skills restoration and long blades. He decided to have a family. This man who had many things at his disposal and many friends. Named his son Elias, and sent him to live on the isle of the great psijic monks. This wood elven boy always had troubles with his mischevious nature and natural lack of magical talent compared to his Dunmeri and altmer brethren. Although with time studied with many great masters. Over long periods of time he reconnected with the spirit of his dead father. Gaining much power and knowledge, through training he eventually became a man of infinite patience and benevolence, yet a terror to those who would seek to disrupt the balance. As a master of Mysticism, hand to hand martial combat, and Alteration magic, he could shield reflect and empower himself to the point that many random travelers that would witness his feats in true need would never forget him. Eventually reaching Sainthood after closing over 50 oblivion gates during the great oblivion crisis.. The legacy of Xia Tz the paladin wood elf ends with Elias as he is Abstinent. Elias dies in the 3E being slain by Mehrunes Dagon himself during the Sacking of the Imperial City, where Martin Septim sacrificed himself to save the empire.

One of the theories on Khajiit is that they were some kind of Aldmer Experiment that involved harnessing the power of of the moons and using it to magically change different Feline Species of Nirn for different purposes. In Elder Scrolls, your common house cat is still considered a Khajiit. Cathay-Rhat (probably mispelled that) are the kind you see in Skyrim. These Khajiit make excellent assassins and warriors by nature.
