Parts installed: 87 Chevy K5 baffled fuel injection tank, New pump module(replacement for a stock 87 Chevy K5 tank) with upgraded EP381 pump P/N: 25163473. Russell -6 AN braided fuel line, Russel fittings. Wix 33737 fuel filter / regulator. The fitting for the outlet of the filter is a Russell 640940.

Hey I know this was a long time ago. Your videos help me a ton. I did the exact set up as you did for my ls swap. Having issues with the fuel gauge. When it’s out of the tank the float shows on the stock gauge. When I drop it in it pegs over fuel. I have. It’s sender and tank ground maybe length of stock sender lever is not good for the baffled tank or something. Just seeing if you had insight on potential issue thanks.

Great coverage, and Straight to the point one avenue for anybody looking to do this, I been trying to convince a buddy to stay away from the inline pump, and stick to in tank for same reason s , safe to say he got this forwarded to him. 🤘 From central FL. Edit: I've got a RWD shortbox step side 76 (currently great running tpi350/700r4) but the cab is roached pretty much, wished you could find a cab for these on Eastern FL coast (good luck) I'd save it from scrapper no one wants due to amount of cab rot. Great video . And looking forward to seeing others

I parted out an 82 suburban with a 6.2 diesel yeas ago and hung on to the fuel tank for years. It looks like the same tank you bought. Unfortunately it is square and too large to fit in the rear frame of a swb truck. I previiusly builts a swb truck and used a 72 blazer tank but since i am going LS this time, it wont work, as the sender hole is too small and it isnt baffled. It looks like i am going with an 87-99 Jeep wrangler tank and a sender for a 92-94 S10 blazer sender with EP381 pump.

Lol. I got an S10 cheap 5 years ago that needed a fuel pump. I went super cheap and ordered a 255 straight from China for 9 bucks plus 5 shipping. Pump only not the whole module. Took over a month to get. 5 years and 30k later that thing is still going strong. My sending unit crapped out 3 years ago I don't want to fix it because I would need the whole unit it's cheaper than buying the sender only if you believe that.

Hey Dave, thanks for such a great video. I do have a question regarding the fuel pump replacement you’d done, is it because you have a 40gl tank and the sending unit was meant for a 31Gl? I’m not doing a Ls swap on my 73 c30 crew cab, I just upgraded my 454 to 468 and I am have happy with the results. I appreciate your time brother sharing your knowledge to all of us square body addicts...👍🏻👊🏻

EagleTeAm iPro the depth of the tank is what affects the sender. If the tanks are the same depth there wont be any issue.

My 2002 7.3 superduty has fuel pump on frame rail under driver side. I got over 200,000 on that pump. Exhaust pipe is on other side of my truck so maybe don't mount your pump close to muffler. Or have an aluminum heat shield.

Does that filler neck fit under the bed and feed through the OEM filler port? Or do you have to cut the fenders or bed to add a filler location? Only thing keeping me from buying this blazer tank is people saying you have to cut the bed. Also is this the 30 or 25 gal model?

This set up is for a returnless rail, for a regulated rail, you would run a feed, and return from the sender to the rail, with some kind of inline filter on the feed line.

Nice job!, got a '84 K5 Blazer (old Military CUCV) that I'm looking at doing a LS swap, so I will be watching your progress. Just wondering why you needed to swap the fuel pump? Is it because the stock '87 TBI pump didn't have enough pressure for the LS system?

The TBI fuel system runs at 13 PSI of pressure, while the "LS" based engines run at 54-60 PSI. My donor 2003 Tahoe 5.3L has a return type system, which means there is a fuel pressure regulator at the intake manifold and it maintains 54 PSI for the injectors. In this video, he has a return-less fuel system with one line at the injector rail. The pump supplies a volume of fuel and if it is enough, it will provide the correct pressure. He is using the Corvette fuel filter that has a pressure regulator built into it. The fuel that is not used by the engine is returned to the fuel tank, but held at a constant pressure to operate the engine correctly while at idle to wide open throttle. PSI has to correct to injector to supply enough fuel under any engine load, but as speed increases, you use more fuel. This is where volume come in. Without enough volume, the engine will perhaps starve at higher PRM's, not run any faster, misfire and become lean. This can cause damage as a lean fuel mixture become much hotter in the combustion chamber. Hope this helps. Buy the best pump as the truck comes with an ACDelco from the factory, just a newer type to correctly provide the pressure required. (An EP339 should be a good one. It's 44mm O.D. with 41mm turbine rotor with cnc machined ramp inlet with updated vapor vent hole and uses strainer / sock type filter p/n TS38 / TS1015. Check RockAuto) Note; pumps outlet slides into metal pipe to seal and comes with connector & harness. Be safe and do not use incandescent lights while working on your fuel system as if dropped, they will spark and also too hot. Be safe, hope this helps.

You have a return less fuel rail right? My 02 LQ4 has a return. So I will have to run a pressure and return all the from the tank and back right and use a standard filter? Also What is the rating on that pump? I plan to have about 500HP at the flywheel.

Yes, your regulator should be on the rail, so 2 lines, regular filter. This pump is for a stock application, it would support a smaller cam, but once you step up to something that needs larger injectors a higher volume pump should be used.

It might be too tall. You could get one specific for your truck, any of them after 87 should be just like the one I got. Just remember the tank I got was newer than 87 so it is baffled.

NVM dick I found out my problem with the last two fittings. I am still waiting for the tank pump to arrive and did not notice the fittings 830/820 are for my tank nothing else up heading to the front XD. Love the films keep up the hardwork

If you can't afford 300$ to properly and more importantly safely run your fuel system, you can't afford to do an LS swap. Besides he's replacing the entire system tank and all. Deduct over $100 if you reuse your tank and more reusing existing fuel lines

i think he has a trailblazer ss intake manifold. i just ordered all the parts he mentioned. i has to get a summit AN -6 cap for the 5/16 return line. i guess the filter he is running is what you want. so i had to figure out how to make my LQ4 intake returnless also.

What fuel rail did you use? I thought truck rails had a return on them. Mine does, but it's an early one. Curious if they changed or you changed it to something else?

I also have a fuel rail with a built-in Return connector (2001 Silverado 5.3L). I believe we are going to need to cap that off and possibly do something with the built-in regulator. I will have to study it more. Another solution is to pickup a used Rail like Dave's ($$). Thinking Cap On...

So it appears about 2008, they changed the Fuel Rail setup to the Return-less style. The older style with the Return port has a built-in Regulator, so the pressure regulation is happening in the rail and excess pressure is being relieved at the rail and purged through the Rail's Return port. The newer style (about 2008) without a Return port assumes that the Regulation is being done prior to the fuel being supplied to the Rails (1) sometimes in the tank and (2) the corvette style using a Filter/Regulator. The Corvette Style Filter/Regulator has high pressure fuel coming in and (1) supplies the Fuel Rail with reduce 60PSI fuel and purges the excess fuel back to the tank. **** The Corvette style Filter/Regulator setup is what Dave has outlined in this series. Both system places about 60 PSI of pressurized fuel in the rails. So, I believe if we want to still use the older Fuel Rail, we could simply block off the second Return port on the Fuel Rail and be good. The built in Fuel Rail Regulator would have nothing to do and would not interfere. Just my 3 cents worth. Mike

Whats up brother! As far as my research got last night was that in 05 they started with the non return rail. It could have been 08 as Mike (UCanDoIt2) pointed out. I'm not sure if the rails are interchangeable, but I have a few truck intakes from both styles, so Ill compare them and let you know. You'd just run 2 lines from the tank to the rail. 1 main line and 1 return No need for the Corvette filter if you have a regulator on the rail

I just realized that your tank is a 31Gl. I thought you kept your 40GL tank from previous videos. Anyways, what fuel pump/ sending unit would you recommend for a 40Gl tank?

The tank from the previous video was a 31, but not baffled, I didn't want to modify the tank for a late model sender, so I got the baffled tank with the stock pump module set up. To break it down, I used a stock pump module assy for a Throttle body truck 87+ K5, and swapped out the pump for a high pressure unit ep381 for the LS. If you want to go this route but with a 40 gal, just order the pump module for that tank set up, pre 87 for carb no baffle needed, 87+ baffled tank and the module has the electric pump in it.

It’s in the video, regulator returns to the tank with a feed, and an out to the fuel rail. This set up won’t work if your regulator is on the rail.

Great info but a few tips. Don’t screw with the camera while you’re filming. Stop and start over if necessary. You didn’t mention the part number. (You started and said “EP...) but got side tracked on why mounting it in the tank is best). Im sure its an EP381. I hope you can take “constructive criticism”. That is why i started my comment by mentioning that it is otherwise good info.
