X-E1 --> X-T20 --> X-S10. Extremely happy with how the S10 handles, got it on release day and combine it with the 16-55mm. Great point on the omission of weather sealing, memory redundancy and 4k 60fps. Those were the main points that did push me towards the T4 but at the end of the day the S10's grip/size and image processing capability won me over. Considering the price was AUD1400 vs AUD1900, money wasn't that much of difference. Thanks for the tight review =)

very good review! I am a hobby user with good photography skills but no meaningful technical knowledge on video. i owned the xt30 and then moved to xt3. xt3 is the real thing vs xt30 but... never really needed the dual card slot or weather sealing and never really spent the time to understand video settings which meant i almost never used the xt3 for video as it doesn't have a fully automatic mode for video (or stills). the other thing was the mechanical dials - they're beautiful and really nice to use but...too many times dials got moved in my bag and i missed several shots and the process to check every setting before the shot was a bit tedious. Mind you - a few weeks may have passed from the last time I used the camera. having scene/auto modes it makes it easier to hand it to someone else to take a shot and also to take a quick shot without having to go through all the manual settings. For me, video is now an option with auto mode. That being said, I just purchased the xs-10 a few days ago and so far I'm liking it. In all likelihood, xt3 will go on sale, as it's probably too professional for my kind of usage. And handling is really good - it's no xt3 but I still found enough external controls for what I am using.

One who goes for the XT 4 and doesn't know the right settings might end up with bad results, X-S10 is cheaper and can be used to improve ur photography skills before getting an expensive camera . They all do similar jobs, it depends on the user.

When the X-T4 came out I had a bit of extra money, so for me it was a no-brainer to grab it. Being back on a budget, comparing these I'd probably lean more towards the X-T3 for the bigger EVF, dual card slots, since IBIS isn't a top tier selling point for me, but the ergonomics of the X-S10 grip is what I would have liked to have seen on the X-T4 (it's still just a smidge too small, and I've got small hands!). No doubt though if money wasn't an issue I could see myself using an X-T4 for all my creative/commercial shooting and an X-S10 for anything where I didn't need to go all out serious. Thanks for all the videos you do man, keep it up! And also thanks for being super approachable as well, both the feeling I get from you in your videos, but also from the comments section as well. One thing about IBIS versus tripod, IBIS is always usable whereas a tripod is not. A lot of places where you can take pictures indoors (castles, museums, etc) won't let you use a tripod. Also, setting up a tripod on a busy city street can earn you a lot of ill-will rather quickly. On top of that, it's not always feasible to drag a tripod along on a trip (e.g. gitting it into an overhead on a plane or bus) or up a mountain. But, everyone has different needs and different steadiness of hands ;)

Thanks Thomas! Excellent video as always! The X-S10 looks like a great little camera. I have both the X-T3 and X-T4. The most important thing for me is the battery life, dual card slots and the IBIS of the X-T4, especially for vintage lenses and the 90 + 56 lenses. If I’m shooting wildlife or video, I’ll choose the X-T4 but if I’m traveling light for casual photography, I’ll take the X-T3. Both cameras are brilliant especially after the latest firmware update. Thanks again and looking forward to the X-H2 😉

If I was to guess I think the x-pro series is photo focused. The x-t series is hybrid. And the x-h series is kinda video, but you're right the X-T3 came out with better video so quickly afterwards the X-H1 felt a little odd. But there are a few features of the X-H1 many people loved so it also wouldn't surprise me if it was just the X-T4+firmware in a x-h series body

Hi Thomas. Thank you for this excellent table comparison of the threee cams. Sorry for being kind of very late in this game but I need your wisdom to help me with my decision. I'm currently contemplating of selling/trading my XT3 for an XS10 because ever since my X100v arrived with its compact form factor and having that Classic Neg film sim (which bakes fuji recipes that emulate classic film developed prints), my XT3 along with my other XF lenses, has gotten lesser use. Perhaps it may motivate me if I replace my XT3 with something compact with the Classic Neg sim feature. What's hesitating me is that the XS10's not weather sealed which may be compromising if subjected to certain weather conditions (rain, snow) and locations (windy and sandy beaches) that may damage either internal or external components like the dials. I may also miss the Fuji magic with the XT3's vintage look. My Xt3 didn't have major issues at all (maybe because I use it gently and only on my day-offs, holidays, special occasions, and travels). As much as the XT4's the better replacement, my budget is restricted to the XS10 (Thought about the XT30ii but feeling it on my hands, it wasn't for me BESIDES it having multiple issues). The good thing is that I haven't read much issues about the XS10 especially when subjected to compromising weather ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaTZpax4iZhmpKMsi=mpGGWDwX0Hct\_C8e OR kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWWmiaahhNmFpqMsi=uxd2pdec\_2pRlEKs ). I shoot street, food, travel and family documentaries and wouldn't ever intend to use my cam on any harsh or compromising environments. Furthermore, I'm kind of frantic thinking ahead that the XS10 won't have that much resale value similar to the XT3 (I actually can sell my XT3 with the price I paid for it brand new-great resale value after over 2.5 years of usage). Is it unwise to replace a virtually problem-free XT3 for an XS10 all because of a film sim and perhaps as a bonus, IBIS (I do shoot lots of low light images)? Thank you.
@ThomasBusbyPhotography Жыл бұрын
Hmmm rough one and I’m not sure I can be much help. I kind of have a personal rule that if I haven’t used a bit of gear much over a 12 month period then I sell it off. If you’re unsure, I’d keep the xt3, and if it gets the point where it looks like you’ll only be using it say once every 4 months, sell it while it has more value, and just keep the money in the bank until you KNOW what you want next

@@ThomasBusbyPhotography My situation's complicated isn't it? But Wow. This is excellent advice actually. And thank you for responding promptly. Got to try out the XS10 yesterday and it feels good in the hand. I'll have to add a plate and a thumb grip as well for added security. The IBIS is actually impressive. BUT overall, I'd still have to weigh what would suit my requirements. Perhaps there'll be hints in the upcoming Sept. 12th X summit.

This was a really good review. The distinction between pro vs amateur usage of the camera nailed it. I was becoming really confused by it, since I wanted the robustness of the XT's. Unfortunately I am jumping in to the Fuji family now, meaning I have zero lenses. Maybe if I had a couple Fuji lenses already I would go for the xt4, since the body is selling in the EU for €1.5k only. Wanting to get a nice lens, we can get the 16-80mm + xs10 for those €1.5k. The XT3 is at the same price and I actually do not need card redundancy, nor the 4k60p. Thanks for making things clearer.

The X-T4 menu walk through was very good One question about the X-S10, does it have a remote shutter cable release socket? One thing I really need, and no I hate phone apps if that is the only option. Probably the X-T4 is what I should look at. I would like to see some lens reviews like the 100-400 and other red badge zoom lenses as I would like to match the quality of the Olympus pro zooms. The 18-135 I think would leave me dissapointed. I get a really great and useful topic for you to make a video about that could be really popular and doesn't require any additional equipment to show. I recently purchased Fuji X-S10 - thank you for the reviews - and learned that it has dual native ISO. This is a very interesting topic and there is not enough digestible information about it. Apparently, the X-Trans sensor in X-T4 and X-S10 has the first native ISO of 640. Previously in an older sensor, it was 800. By under-amplifying the signal the ISO could be made even 80, but with the worst dynamic range. Providing more gain to native ISO 640 we get higher ISO and there is more noise introduced. But at the second native ISO of 2000, there is another gain mechanism used and at ISO 2000 there is less noise than at ISO 1600. I still try to learn all the details and what is the best ISO in this situation to use. Apparently it is better to use ISO 2000 than ISO 1600 and 640 instead of 200.
@ThomasBusbyPhotography3 жыл бұрын
Those are different iso levels to what I have heard, but I found many trying to test it also don't know about signal to noise ratio. But thank you kindly for the idea

This camera is intriguing to me, I've been in love with the colors from a Fuji for a while, and as someone who needs lightweight, portability, and ease of use for my day job [creating content for the hospital I work for] and side job -- budget friendly wedding videos and simple commercials for local businesses. Idk if it'll fit on a small gimbal like the Zhyuin Crane M2 (due to its ergonomics and the hand grip size) but as someone who only shoots video, the XS10 with the 35mm f 1.4 fuji lens weighs in at a combined 652 grams (max payload for gimbal says 720 grams) looks like it could be a fantastic combination for under $2,000

Really enjoyed your review and your comparison of the 3 cameras. I recently sold my 4 year old X-T2 and have ordered the X-S10. As a casual hobbyist photographer I felt the X-S10 was un upgrade on my X-T2. It offered just about everything my X-T2 offered but with a better AF system, IBIS, an incredible grip all in a smaller more travel friendly body. I won't miss the weather sealing of the X-T2 as in 4 years of ownership I never used it in the rain or any dusty environments. I will however miss the external shutter and ISO dials but I can live with the PASM setup. I would love to see a comparison between the X-S10 and X-T4 where both cameras are given to a professional photographer and they take the same photos (landscape, portrait, macro) using the same lenses on both cameras. As both use the same sensor I reckon the average person would not be able to tell the difference. Video may be a different story as X-T4 is clearly superior, however for stills I reckon you could get the same or very close to the same output from an X-S10. Agree that the X-T4 is a must for a professional due to weather sealing and dual card slots, however for non professionals these two features are not deal breakers. When that Australia/NZ travel bubble opens up I would love to get over the ditch and visit the South Island. I have friends that have been there and have raved about the brilliant photography opportunities.

Thanks for this video dude. I've already ordered the XF 70-300 after deciding to switch/upgrade to the Fujifilm system after using a Canon M50 MK ii. I was all but certain I would purchase a used X-T4 over the next few weeks. However, I'm wondering if the XS-20's release in the next couple of weeks will be a game changer. It's rumoured to have the same battery as the X-T4 with the same 26.1MP, but with autofocus similar to, if not better than the X-T5 and/or XH-2S. My guess is that it'll probably not have dual card slots or 4K60 video capabilities. Therefore, I'd like to know you're opinion on this decision because the X-T4 looks awesome, but I do semi-professional surf photography/videography and the main reason I'm thinking about the XS-20 instead is the likely improved autofocus capabilities along with the same battery and I guess, similar price. Deciding which is hard choice, coming from xt20 I cant decide which to buy! I dont do video and not bothered about the video options but I do do landscape and street photography the later with old m42, zuiko and such lenses with adaptors, the IBIS is what im really looking for to help with these lenses. the xt3 is just a better camera than my current xt20 but still doesnt have IBIS, so this leaves XT4 or XS10, convince me which I should buy!! btw thanks for the awesome video

The XT30 is also a real possibility for travel or a pro's backup. It's even lighter and smaller at like 350g, it has a tilting screen which is better for the operator, it has the Fuji dial system, looks better, and you can get a used one for $600 U.S. Since neither has 10 bit for video, the IBIS is less important and isn't perfect anyways. You can use OIS lenses for a better result in video anyways since they don't jitter when panned.
@mswhite15324 жыл бұрын
Recently subscribed to your channel and have been enjoying all your videos, very useful and practical information. One question that I have is regarding using IBIS and OIS together. For example, using the Fujinon 16-80mm and a camera with IBIS such as the X-H1, XS10 or XT4, how many equivalent stops of stabilization would one get? I don’t imagine they would be additive? In low light conditions, if one used a Fujifilm XT3 with the Fujinon 16-80 vs the Fujifilm XS10 with the sane lens and identical settings, would the Xs10 image output be significantly better?
@ThomasBusbyPhotography4 жыл бұрын
Somewhere on fujis website they have a list of how many stops you get with each lens and camera combination. The best the xs10 can achieve is 6 stops, and the xt4 is 6.5 stops. I can't remember exact which lenses you need to use to get these results though. Cheers for all the support though

I'm still undecided about the X-S10 vs X-T3. The X-S10 is newer, has the IBIS, is smaller and better ergonomics, and is U$ 100 cheaper right now. But, the X-T3 has a better EVF, has the flip up/down screen (that i prefer), has more buttons and has the traditional dials (not better, just tradicional). With a lens with OIS, the IBIS would be redundant. But my main struggle is that I eventualy might add prime lenses without OIS. So, this is my situation... EVF / flip up-down screen/+ buttons --- VS --- IBIS, ergos? My main goal would be photography / travel, 70% photos, 30% short videos. Is the X-S10 small enough to justify it for travel instead of the X-T3?

Ok in that case with them both being so even to your needs, just get the best deal, or the cheapest etc, the differences to you won’t be huge, though I think I’d lean slightly towards the xt3 because of the weather sealing which I use all the time with travel and landscape, and I always use a tripod for landscape and photographing art so Ibis doesn’t help much there

I've been thinking about the X-S10 for a while, coming from a non-Fuji background I like the dials. But I can't decide about the lens option. I have 3 choices in the UK, camera with: 15-45 at 999 GBP 18-55 at 1,100 GBP 16-80 at 1,400 GBP I'm minded to go for the 16-80 as an all-rounder lens but it's hard to justify an extra 400 GBP over the 15-45. It would be for daily photography whilst out walking as well as holidays. I'm not bothered about video at all. What would you spend your own money on? :)
@ThomasBusbyPhotography2 жыл бұрын
Get the 16-80, the extra will be worth it for the walking around kinda stuff, and if you find you need or want more it will hold its value if you look after it. The other two will leave you wanting more, which will cost you more in the long run plus mean you’ll be carrying even more. The 16-80 suits what you described the best, even considering price

I feel like the x-s and x-h series of fuji cameras have a softer (more cinematic) look than the x-t series. Judging just based on the footage I've seen on youtube. The camera conspiracy guy had a comment about this in his x-h2s vs x-t4 comparison, and I can't get it out of my head as an x-t3 user.
@ThomasBusbyPhotography Жыл бұрын
To be honest I feel that only really applies though if you’re not colour grading / editing. Which is 100% fine and rewarding to work in a straight out of camera environment. But I feel “look” is 99% effected by editing and grading and as someone who has and edits xt4 and xh2s footage side by side…I can’t see a single difference between cameras
@nowofficial28533 жыл бұрын
I know this comment is long after the video, so perhaps you won't see it. I think the X-t4 and x T3 make it much easier to learn the exposure triangle, and in general how photography works . Having a dial on the top with A and S and P isn't helpful. But if you put an X-t4 in aperture priority you see on the top that the aperture is changing and all the other things are on auto. It's all right in front of you not being managed invisibly by the camera (as in the X-s10) . Then when you look in the viewfinder you see the results of your adjustment. Having unlabeled control dials means the new shooter has to remember what they're for. On the x-t4 you've got those dials if you're experienced, but if you're not all those labeled locking adjustment dials on the top make learning much easier.

Sample photos taken by xt-3 are likewise impressive, but is it hard for a beginner like me to take same quality photos? i want to go for xt-3 but im afraid those impressive sample photos by xt3 are only be possible for pros. or will i have to go through same learning process if i'll get the xs10?

They are my best work horses that will do with the majority of work that I do but I bought this camera not to add to my working collection I bought this little camera just have fun with just to go out and shoot and not care about what they photos look like. @@ThomasBusbyPhotography it's funny because when I'm looking at the camera I look at the sensor first. It's actually the very first thing I look at before I buy a camera is what is the sensor like. As soon as I read that the sensor was the same as the XT4. I'm like okay so for photo quality why would I buy an extra for? That is bigger bulkier and more expensive. Well it's got weather sealing... But I really hate taking photos in the rain. I don't like going out in the rain for anything really nonetheless Photography even I don't like photographing in the rain. So it was a rather simple decision. If these two cameras are very similar in many ways and have exactly the same sensor, which means I will get the same photos then why would I pay morning money for a bigger bulkier camera if I don't go out in the rain. I'm sure the S 10 can take a tiny bit of moisture on top of the camera. So it was a no-brainer as they say. Sensor is King in cameras yet many people do not look at what sensor the camera has and that is the first thing I look at.
