My sweet spot after about 2hrs of testing for low light noise-vs-smudge is -4 sharpness and -2 noise reduction and Interframe NR on. I shoot LongGOP 200mbps for everything. XT3 user here. My gimbal / bcam to my FS7.

@StuHaightVideo4 жыл бұрын
@@movichris Basically the way fuji did it's noise reduction is a little uneven. Anything that is black, above -2 noise reduction just ends up being a very very very smudgy smear and you loose all your detail. So much so that it's kind of a turnoff, almost looks out of focus. It's not like other brands like sony where all bright and darks and colors get an equal amount of "smudge". I'm talking extremes like 6400, 12800, 25600. With all that said, -2 is borderline grain. -4 is just straight up full on grain. 0 and up becomes a smudgy smear that looses ALL detail in the shadows. This applies to both 4k and HD even though HD doesn't have the added "4k interframe NR option". You'll notice that 4k in 12800 is cleaner than HD 12800. But HD out of the XT3 looks way better than 1080 out of a sony a6300.

@@StuHaightVideo Is this true even when shooting F-Log? I don't own any Fujifilm camera (yet). Basically I saw videos on KZbin that shooting in F-Log fixes this crushed shadows issue in videos.

Was this shot in MF? I don't see any of the strange juddering here that I have seen on other X-T4 footage. I have been leaning towards the Lumix S5 but this looks lovely and I already have an X-Pro3 and lenses so now I'm a tad confused. In most of the X-T4 footage I have seen the AF in video isn't even close to being useable for video work, with slight changes in focus as if the camera isn't sure what it is supposed to be targeting and it can be very distracting if you're shooting wider apertures. I'm assuming it's the AF but maybe it's the IBIS? Not sure.

Judging by Chris' other replies, I think it was in autofocus. With Fujifilm lenses, the performance very dependent on the Continuous AF settings (sensitivity + speed) and it is different for each lens. My guess is that Chris decreased the sensitivity and speed for this video so there is no or reduced juddering/jitteriness. Even if there was, you could just edit those parts out for b-roll videos like this. Then again, he did say that this 16-80mm F4 performed very well as well.

Hi again, it’s an awesome video! Miss HK so much! One quesiton, what kind of SD card did you use? Should I get an UHS-II for 400mbps recording?
@movichris4 жыл бұрын
Elvis Wang hi Elvis, thank you for watching! I recommend to use the Sandisk Extreme Pro 300MB/s UHS-II SD card for high bitrate recording on the X-T4. I first got the 64GB but it’s easy to fill up the card if you are recording 400mbps footage, so at least get a 128GB if you are shooting lots of b-roll footage and interview shoots at 4K ALL-I 400mbps

Thanks for creating the short film! I would like to know your opinion on the video capabilities of the XT4, specifically the IBIS and Autofocus. I am currently in the market for a new camera, and the ones on my budget are the XT4 and Sony A7iii. I'm having a hard time deciding since both cameras are doing amazing on their own. I will be using the camera for product photography/videography for web content, work events indoors and outdoors, weddings, and shoots for freelance work. Won't be doing anything crazy like commercial shoots yet.
@movichris4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brandon, thanks for watching! I had experience with using the Sony A7R III (should be similar to A7 III). Comparing with the X-T4, the A7R III is better in autofocus speed and accuracy. This is especially helpful if you rely on filming lots of b-roll shots for event shoots. With the X-T4, different Fuji lenses will give different results on C-AF speed and accuracy in video. I had very good C-AF speed and accuracy with the 16-80 F4 lens, but it's totally different on the 35mmF1.4 and 56mmF1.2 lenses. Also, you will need to fine-tune the C-AF tracking sensitivity and speed in the settings, and the settings are different for each Fuji lens... On the Sony, you don't have to worry about these issues. For the IBIS, the X-T4 is better in keeping shots steady and slightly better panning movement than the Sony. But both the Sony and Fuji don't deliver smooth panning with IBIS. The X-T4 has 4K 60p which is good for slow-mo shots if you are filming wedding. It also supports 10bit internal recording at 4:2:0, which is good for color grading in post. The A7R III or A7 III is better in C-AF, and better battery life. You will get better low light performance with its bigger sensor, but it doesn't look too bad for the X-T4, as I was able to shoot in ISO 5000 with acceptable noise. For the X-T4, firmware updates will make the camera better. If you rely on C-AF in filming, it's better to get the Sony.

Great video, really! That being said I have a question: why 4:2:0 and not 4:2:2 instead? Using the 4:2:0 profile, your video file size is "smaller" ... but you are losing colors; especially when you apply a LUT profile or change the hue/saturation on your F-Log video footage. When you are using the 4:2:2 profile, you have a perfect F-Log with all the colors (the more, the better!).
@movichris3 жыл бұрын
I could only shoot up to 10bit 4:2:0 internally on the X-T4. To shoot 4:2:2, I have to use HDMI output with the Ninja V, which I'm planning to buy in the near future. Yes, thanks for your tip to shoot in 4:2:2 to get perfect F-Log!

Thanks for the video, why Flog to Eterna LUT, and not straight Eterna recording? Those black bars do nothing for viewing pleasure, but thats just my opinion..
@movichris4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Shooting in F-Log will give better dynamic range than shooting in ETERNA. So you can convert the F-Log footage using the ETERNA LUT, and get better dynamic range to touch up the highlights, shadows, and color correction.
@BranRistic4 жыл бұрын
@@movichris so have you tried editing Eterna in the same manner, we all understand what Flog should do, I guess my question should be "was it necessary?" After all you are filming 400mbps ALL-I
@WorldofThaiFood4 жыл бұрын
@@BranRistic Owning the X-T3 and X-T4 I can tell you that regardless of shooting 400mbps All-I you will not get the same dynamic range when shooting Eterna as you will when shooting in F-log and then adding the Fuji Eterna LUT or any grade for that matter. F-log to Eterna will also dramatically improve your highlight roll-off.

@@WorldofThaiFood The times I have filmed, also on my X-T3 & X-T4, in F-Log and applied an Eterna LUT, i had not noticed a great difference, and were talking 4:2:0 internally, however, When I filmed ALL-I and its only 400mbps now, to a Ninja v in 4:2:2 there is a noticeable difference from F-Log to just Eterna simulation...
