+++ UPDATE +++ Hey guys. I made a really stupid mistake by relying on the specs list of a website instead of checking the camera. Of course the X100V is also capable of 30fps continuous shooting (with a 1.25 crop), same as the X-T30. So, this half point should be given to both models in fact. I am really sorry.... next time I'll check twice. Thanks to Gé Weijers for the tip.

Good vid. The X100V is a sexy beast, but as a single lens camera, it is very limiting. That would be justifiable if the camera was really small and pocketable (like the X70 was), but the X100 series is not that small, so if you need a small bag or pouch for your camera anyway, then I prefer to have an interchangeable lens camera. Plus, I find the 23mm focal length, although practical, a bit dull. 18 or 27mm work better for me (I even sold my prime 23mm 2.0). Finally, the X100V is very expensive for such a limited camera. A feature like the OVF/EVF switch jacks up the price - but I never used it. So my vote goes to the XT30.

Thx, man. Agreed! But don't underestimate the power of the single lens. ;) Thx for watching.

They’re entirely different cameras, it’s like comparing between a 7 seat SUV and a 4 seat convertible. I own both and I still carry my X100V much more than the XT30ii. That being said, there’s a lot of versatility with interchangeable lens, and I use use the XT30ii when X100V just doesn’t work, such as stabilised videos (with OIS lenses) and when I need the zoom range. What the XT30ii does not have, most notably, X100V has the killer F2.0 lens (totally different and IMO superior than the very capable XF23 F2.0), a weather sealed compact body, with a built in 4 stops ND and 1/2000 flash sync capable silent mechanical leaf shutter. In a very common scenario when the subject is backlit (by the sun for example), the X100V can take a wide-open photo when the subject still visible with the built in flash. It’s not the most pleasing direct flash, but it’s totally workable in post. To create the same photo with the XT30ii, you’ll need to bring a powerful flash unit with flash sync that would weigh almost a kilo, and almost nobody does that on a trip. Ok, enough praise about the X100V 🤣, but since I have both cameras, I’m at least eligible to give some realistic thoughts. I would add that I’d get the XS20 for video, but I don’t like the articulating screen and the PASM dials (I downgraded from XT4 because of the size and screen) . I really don’t need the power of XT5 , so It’ll be great if Fuji can pack the XS20 power and IBIS in the XT40 In 2024?? I’m not a professional but I like taking family and environment photos, and looking through the photos for over 8 years (from X100T, X100T, XT20, XT4), I still love the X100V the most. And year by year my photography had improved, and I hadn’t acquired any “extra” gear, meaning I will have one interchangeable body, and one X100 variant. Over the years I only got an extra hot shoe flash unit. My most used lenses for the XT30ii is 18-55mm kit for stabilised videos, and 16mm F1.4 for indoor dinner / parties, and the other 5-6 lenses are kept in the drawer most of the time. Oh, I also use the WCL-X100II, which is an awesome, if not a little cumbersome, wide lens adaptor for the X100V, and it’s arguably a more useful focal length. The reason I mention all these gears, is that I believe that you need to try and find out what’s right for you, as each has their characters and utility. But if someone is on a budget, I’d also recommend them to get as many used lenses and find out that they enjoy using. Another example, is my friend bought a Sony A7iii few years back and only 1 expensive and heavy 16-35 zoom lens, making the package the size and weight of a melon. He says he doesn’t mind the weight but it’s too cumbersome to bring with him, what gives? For the same money, he could’ve gotten the X100V with the lens adapters, or XT30ii with kit 18-55 plus a few awesome Fuji F2.0 primes (or other APSC systems) and enjoy the shooting experience, rather than collecting dust and getting no experience. And if you really have to choose one, here’s a so only answer: if you need the zoom range and don’t care about the leaf shutter, Weather sealing and built in ND, then it’s pretty much the XT30ii.

No built-in flash though. The x-t30 and x100 are the only that have it and it can come in handy to lift the shadows in faces. The x-t30 does have a sync limitation of 1/180 bit with the x100 the flash works with any shutter speed and can be used even in daylight, eg for portraits with wide open aperture and high shutter speed.

Instead of purchasing the X100V, I purchased the X-E3 with the 27mm F2.8 pancake lens to use as a discreet second camera for events when I wish for the most compact and light setup. However, I find that I very much miss three aspects of the X100V: (1) the built-in fill flash, (2) the digital zoom, and (3) the Classic Negative color recipe. As a result, with my X-E3,, I usually need to bring the flash attachment and the much larger 18-55mm zoom lens. This defeats the purpose of the most compact possible arrangement, so then I often just give up and bring my much larger Sony A6500 kit. So I am once again considering a purchase of the X100V, despite its fixed lens. Thank you for the video. You accomplished a very thoughtful comparison./Warren

Sorry first for off topic, but I want just ask. I'm beginner shooter and want to upgrate from x-t100, is better choice to go x-t20 just for photo shooting? x-t30 is great, but I use only manual prime lenses so focus features don't need so much for higher price. Do you think is better choice x-t20 than x-t30, when I use only manual prime lenses?
@Jayshooter_photo4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think you should go for the 20. Because there will be nearly no advantage in the X-T30, at least if you use it exclusively for stills and don’t want to use burst mode (wich would be a real challenge with manual lenses). Hope this is helpful, thx for watching!

Great video comparison. I started off with the X-T30 plus 23mm F2 lens as I wanted to use it primarily for street photography. I already had the X-T2 with 16mm-80mm f4 zoom for general use. I got really frustrated with the position of the Q menu button on the X-T30, nearly every time I went to take a photo with it I somehow managed to activate the Q menu! I decided in the end that, as I only intended to use the T30 with the 23mm f2 lens and didn't need it to take other lenses, to part-exchange it plus lens for the X100V with the new, sharper 23mm lens. So far I am delighted with my decision, I have all the advantages of the better lens, ND filter, leaf shutter, dual-purpose bigger, brighter viewfinder and no disadvantages as I don't use it for video.

I am right in the thick of this exact dilemma...trying to decide between these two options. This was perfect video analysis for me. Thank-you. Compactness and image quality are my two priorities. Did you say that the 23mm (35mm) f2 separate lens had image quality as good or better than the highly acclaimed one packaged with the X100V? In that case, for a modest loss of compactness, I could replicate the X100V using the X-T30 and the 27 mm f2, and still have the option to add zoom should I find it "essential" for me. I was considering the f2.8-4.0 zoom 18-55 mm to get to that ideal f55 (f85?) portrait range. Of course that further compromises compactness, so again it is weighing those variable...as you say a very personal decision.
@Jayshooter_photo3 жыл бұрын
A little clarification: The 27mm is f2.8, not f2. If you mean the 23mm f2: It’s the same IQ, but slightly better AF performance to the 23mm of the X100V. The 27mm f2.8 has the slowest AF of these options, but great IQ and is the most versatile focal length. Hope this is helpful!
@philipjacques96323 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jayshooter. Yes I did mean the 23 mm f2. I would not have thought that there was much difference between that and the 27mm lens, but sounds like you are saying that little extra reach of the 27mm adds some versatility, albeit with a little less capability in low light. And thank-you for this unexpectedly prompt reply. As an amateur trying to understand and learn, it is a real privilege to be able to have some feedback from a professional. I really like your approach. I own a 100S and XT30, so I get a regular opportunity to compare the two cameras, albeit with an older model. The position of the Q button and removal of the D-pad on the XT30 are both negatives, and I have great affection for the colour and image quality of the older sensor. However, for versatility and speed of operation the XT30 is way ahead. Maybe I need to take another look at the X100V. Thanks for great content.

Really nice video, but can't help to think that the versatility of the XT30 comes with a cost. True, it has over 30 lenses you can buy, but that comes a very high price. I am thinking of selling my Sony A7III and getting the X100V. I want to limit my options and cut all additional gear I need to go out and take pictures. I usually don't even carry my A7III with me because of the size, weight, and the fact that it looks expensive for an everyday camera (probably cuz it is), it makes me feel like a target. In my trip to Barcelona I was followed over an hour without me noticing until one of my friends point it out. I find myself more and more attracted to the X100V cuz I feel it has exactly what I am looking for. Again, nice video 👍

Raymond Moran i am total agree with you. The most important advantage of x100v is what it made for just shooting without carrying, thinking, or changing lenses and other accessories which stop you for the main reason of photography: “Capturing a moment”. And also, giving you peace of mind to do not be challenged for anything else except: “framing and shooting”, and it means improving creativity! I had/have several and different fuji cameras/lenses beside other brands. But always till now, when i go out to shoot (for meditation, fun, art, etc.), i lose my motivation when i start to think what bag, what lenses, accessories, should i take with me?! And this is different when you want to shoot for a paid project, of course you plan and you take whatever you need, but in this way you are shooting for business and not for you! Although even business-photography could produce artistic photos (P.S.). However, based on my students and experiences, I believe, psychologically and emotionally, X100 Fuji series are made for Meditative and Artistic Photography. Thank you.

Thanks for this and long term review. I can understand why x100v exists. You can have nice compact camera which is fun to use and which is easy to carry. Then you can have feature packed camera with IBIS, large grip, option to replace battery and sd card while it has mounted tripod pad, but you can't have both. So for me this seems like a good replacement of MFT camera when I want to travel light and have fun and use Panasonic G80 for more demanding stuff (it may sound as a paradox, but with IBIS, some prime lenses and two zoom lenses covering 24-300 equivalent focal range it is quite capable and it's not that heavy).

I believe that "Antraciet" is the right choice 😁. For second camera my choice goes to the sexy one, I once owned the xt20 but found it to tiny. Always a battle between my hand and the buttons on the back. It drove me to the edge of the abyss....And the X100V is like the Lorelei, singing a song to seduce....

Thanks for the great comparison video! I have Olympus EM-5 Mark II with several lenses and am thinking of going to Fuji. My reasons are that my Olympus is getting a bit older (but it is sort of like a friend, it's even been to the "hospital"). It is 16 M pixels in m43 and I would appreciate the larger APS-C sensor and pixel count of the Fuji. I also like the old school dials approach to controlling the camera in full manual mode, which is similar to my Olympus. I like to hike and backpack so the weather sealing of the X100V (with upgraded lens cover accessory) would be similar to my Olympus with the Pro lens I have for it. I know if I end up going for X100V, I will probably also eventually get lenses and XT-30 or newer body. If I go XT-30 or newer body and a lens, I will probably not get the X100V...so I will likely get the X100V to ensure I end up with both someday, lol.
@stevepauly94184 жыл бұрын
I should clarify...I am no "Pro". The "Pro" lens is the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm F2.8 Pro Lens, which is weather sealed like the Olympus EM-5 body.

Hey Steve. Thx for your comment. With the V you are of course missing a lot of focal length for your olympus setup. If that's not important, go with the X100V, it’s a great travel camera. Actually, the X-E3 might be right for you too and it's ridiculously cheap right now. If you can wait: I believe in an X-E4 next year that will hopefully have WR. Best regards!

Als main Portraitkamera? die xt-30 oder x100v... Sinn machen würde eher die XT Serie aber emotional zieht es mich mehr zur x100V... Ich bin so unentschlossen :D
@Jayshooter_photo3 жыл бұрын

Your size comparison isn’t fair. If you leave the smallest lens possible on the xt-30 then it loses its versatility advantage. X100v should simply get the size points only. Or the x100v doesn’t get the versatility advantage. You can’t have your cake and eat it too
@Jayshooter_photo4 жыл бұрын
Blake Trafiak I think it is fair, because I recommended two lenses for the X-T30, that can keep it as small or even smaller than the X100V. So one focal length more than the X100V, with a very small form factor. And that justifies the versatility points also. Thx for watching!
@trafiak84 жыл бұрын
Jayshooter if I recall in your versatility section you said the XT-30 offers 30 different lenses. Even if you say you recommend 2 lenses only, those two lenses are not very versatile since they’re pretty similar focal lengths
@Jayshooter_photo4 жыл бұрын
Blake Trafiak I don't quite understand the point here: With two lenses from the Fuji system, which I don't find similar by the way, the X-T30 is just as small or smaller than the X100V. Then there are the other lenses offered on top ... why shouldn't the X-T30 earn the points? Because the other 28 lenses are bigger? Nope, don’t agree.

Hello Jay, you know I’m going to make some kind of a comment (LOL), but it’s not about the cameras, I don’t have any use for either one of them because for my style of photography the X-T2 is perfect. I just want to tell you that I appreciate the time that you take to make and share videos just like this one, you’re doing a very good job. I approach this comparison as which will render better IQ with equal 23mm f2 setups and how they allow variation of getting the shot. With the best 23mm f2 performing lens to date and the fact it has an internal ND filter and leaf shutter, the X100V is the Clear winner when it comes to getting the bast image output. It is also less obtrusive and more pocketable than the X-T30 w/23mm f2 setup. For a carry everywhere quality street shooter you cant beat the X100V.
@Jayshooter_photo4 жыл бұрын
I Agree. However, the X-T30 offers more flexibility for people who are not exclusively concerned with street photography. The video wasn't just a comparison for street photographers, but if it were, we would have a (clearer) winner here. Thx for watching!

Great video, very interesting and entertaining. I’m still undecided, thinking of selling my X-T2 and 3 lenses and getting the X100V. I like to travel light, but also have the XF 56, which is an unbelievably good lens, and not so small.
@Jayshooter_photo4 жыл бұрын
Is the 35mm f1.4 in your Setup? It’s AF performance is the only disadvantage, but it’s really an amazing lens and lightweight. I also can recommend the f2 WR lenses, including the 50mm. The X100V is for sure the perfect travel package, if the 23mm is enough for your needs. Hard decision! Thx for watching...
@McConnachy4 жыл бұрын
Jayshooter thank you. I have the 56, 23 f1.4 and the 18. I had the 35 f1.4 for 4 years and while I like it I came to the conclusion it’s FOV doesn’t suit me, the 56 is better. I hate having to switch lenses. I’ve been thinking about welding a 50 to the X-T2 and buying the X100v, or X100f which is now a reduced price. I do need the 23mm to be able in low light, you know for photos of my wife and children in restaurants. PS I am from Scotland but my wife is German, from Hessen, I go every year to the Rhine and the 23 & 56 are perfect FOV for this type of travel. So sorry to take your time, I have 3 questions; are the X100 V & F able in low light? Is the 50 as good as a 56 (I am thinking the 56 is better for a studio as regards dust entry) and do you prefer the X100V or F? Vielen Danke
@Jayshooter_photo4 жыл бұрын
My experiences with the X100F are really not worth mentioning, so I don’t feel able to give recommendations here. Maybe you should rent an X100 (V or F) for a week and shoot with it exclusively. But regarding low light and the X100V: It’s really great! Okay, sometimes a faster lens would be nice of course, but I love the low light performance and the bokeh. Have you seen my full review about the V? Have a look. About the 56mm: I won’t lie, it’s my favorite lens for portraits and it’s of course „better“ than the 50, it’s faster, has the better bokeh etc. But the 50 has the faster AF, WR and is so compact, that I wanted to recommend it to you.
@McConnachy4 жыл бұрын
Jayshooter Your comments help me a lot for direction. I can weld the 56 to the X-T2. Sell the 18, 23 f1.4, 18-55, and my old X-T1. Buy the X100V. I would love to rent but I am on on the edge of the Highlands, so our nearest camera shop is far away, I will watch your other reviews. 👍 I really appreciate the time you have taken to explain. Oh and yes, I totally agree, the 56 is also my favourite lens and it would be heart break to part with this.
