"If you stick to sport Karate, then you finish when you're injured" - that is so on point! That is exactly what has happened to me and motivated me to go to local goju-ryu dojo. After day 1 I've felt like I've transitioned from kindergarten straight up to university.

It's really cool to see a blend of Goju-Ryu and Kyokushin, in spirit, these two are extremely close to each other, and are definitely the closest to the ancient idea of "Budo". I started in Goju-Ryu when I was tiny, now I do Kyokushin very seriously. The main thing that translated over is the limb destruction I learned. Disable any weapons your enemy has, including their limbs!

I just discovered this channel two days ago, and I am so glad that I did! I studied American Goju (Austino, Urban, Yamaguchi, Miyagi - Lineage) for about 15 years. For years now I have been drawn to traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu. When critics of traditional Kara-Te dismiss many traditional stances and techniques, specifically the practice of kata, through my own practice and study, including having it save my hide on more than one occasion, I'm inclined to disagree. I hope to find a good dojo. I have great reverence for the American Goju teachers who have helped mold me into the Karate-Ka that I am, though a return to the origins is where my practice belongs, while studying other arts to greater benefit my Goju Ryu.

I understand not punching bare knuckle to the head because it causes cuts very easily, but I think the answer to that should be just limiting palm strikes to the head instead of a closed fist, not getting rid of it all together It ends up making this weird thing where guys just stand chest to chest with no movement or defense eating body punches

never stick to single style. take techniques that you see useful and ones that work and move on to next. always train those techniques to perfection. What Bruce Lee wanted to do with Jeet Kune Do is true answer to real martial arts. (Jeet Kune Do itself I think is worthless) That being said, if you are female, or have subpar reflex, limited mobility, weak tendon/ligament strength, no endurance, or weak muscular strength, no amount of amazing techniques is going to help you. also gun trumps everything martial arts.
