Maybe he has to interview phony people even when he doesn't want to, just because they are in the public eye. But you can tell when he genuinely admires a guest, like he showed in this interview of Lady Gaga. She's really a lovely person, and what she said about Dr. Ford was so spot-on, it brought tears to my eyes. I'm sorry Stephanie had to suffer a sexual assault; I am very glad she survived and lived to tell the tale. May Brett Kavanaugh burn in hell for what he did to Dr. Ford (& other women I'm sure), and I truly believe he will pay the price for his actions after he crosses over (praying that is soon...). He is absolutely unfit for a position on the Supreme Court. They should abolish that "term for life". Then once Biden gets into office, he could oust the sexual assaulters and harrassers such as Kavanaugh & Clarence Thomas, and replace them with judges who are decent people like Merrick Garland.

That “box” I hid for so long; full of trauma, and unwarranted shame was ready to implode my well being due to my own destructive behaviors. I remember being a happy, fun, jovial child before that. (I have cheesy pics of me at four doing the Fonzie thumbs up, and me at 3, at Disneyland walking down a bench acting like a 70’s model). Then THAT happened. I try not to, bc I know it’s not good, but I often wonder who and where I’d be if that HUGE incident hadn’t altered my psyche indefinitely. Yes, I know, *some* women lie, but MOST DON’T. For Dr. Ford to put herself out there AND take an oath, and then not be believed and even mocked by the assaulter in chief, was the strongest/hardest thing she’s ever had to do. She was what 13-15 years old. If I was 5 and can remember this, just bc I never told “anyone sooner”. DOES. NOT. MEAN. IT. DID’NT. HAPPEN.

Additional points - she didn’t want this to be public (yet she went to the Democratic Party instead of her local senator address the issue). President trump was accused during his presidency (yet never any time before - interesting) and the accusations fell apart - thus for now making him innocent until otherwise prevent guilty meaning he cannot be called an assaulter...but as with the case of those defending Dr.Ford (as with Emit Till [excuse any misspelling]), evidence doesn’t matter .. only the word of a wealthy white woman

This is one of the BEST Lady Gaga interviews I've ever seen. I love the way Colbert doesn't constantly interrupt his guests to inject himself into the interview. Also, I've long admired Gaga's talent. When I first heard her, I remember thinking, this woman can sing, something many modern pop stars can't do. There are videos of Gaga vocals stripped down without tracks added. Superb. People derided her because of her costumes, but the woman has talent to back up her theatrics. Now for Madonna.I'm 49, so I was in junior high when she came the scene. Madonna can dance, but her vocal talent is... limited. Her genius is in self-promotion. She knew shock value would establish her career. Raw sexuality that would seem quaint now was controversial back in the 80s + 90s. But Madonna has proven to be extremely arrogant. Shes criticized Gaga and made snide comments about other artist. Oh well. Gaga has real talent and that speaks for itself. Now Gaga has both a hit flm, soundtrack, and winning raves for her acting. Something Madonna tried but never achieved. Oh well.

Ronson Peters I actually realized this when I saw her in A Star is Born this week. Her performance in that movie is so amazing you can't help but notice her talent but also how intelligent she must be to pull this all off. This is someone who is highly educated & naturally intelligent.

I am not a "pop" fan, but after I listened to her music I was very impressed. She has grown as an artist and a person, and her defense of Ford (and all sexual survivors) was probably the the clearest, most eloquent "lay-person" statements I have ever heard.

That's because of her PTSD from the sexual assault at the age of 19. + She's been brutally criticized by media ever since she came to the scene (that shes an hermaphrodite, satan worshipper etc) and on top of that, she broke her hip in 2011 on the 96th show of her world tour. The next album was ARTPOP and it was absolutely the worst times Gaga has been through because of media again. Take a look at ARTPOP and the street performances from that era. She worked with Marina Abramovic and she had an exhibition in the Louvre museum. What a life! (For more inspiration, you can watch 'Gaga: Five Foot Two' on Netflix. You're right Jeffrey - a persons profession does not tell you every skill set they have. You worked at a hotel (doing what you didn't say) and yet you can do some repairs to a car. Thats like me with my own retail business and I can manage everything from sales to IT and in my spare time I can do many electronic things (worked as a technician some years in my youth as well). Now lets look at Lady Gaga - shes under 30, has ONLY ever been in the music industry - she cannot say she's worked a hotel for 15 years or anything else. Shes very successful, earns millions from her great singing talent and provocative videos and is completely shielded from "the common Joe's" life. Suddenly she comes out as a part time politician at such a young age. No thanks, I don't need advice from entertainment singers, actors and the like. Just because you're an actor/singer does not mean you have some kind of special insight into the workings of the world. Its a free world, everyone has a right to their opinions, I also have equal right to reject opinions of those I deem irresponsible, childish and downright stupid. For example, she says "if you say ying, I'll say yang" Oh brother, goodness. I don't mind Lady Gaga, have nothing against her, but lets not pretend shes anything else but a singer (and highly successful and I bought her CD's I really enjoy her music - but I certainly don't put her on a pedestal)

Lady Gaga, you have me in tears. Everything you said about sexual abuse and/or assault explains so much about survival and how it works. You explained it so simply and clearly. That “little file box” stays safely stored away because of fear, inability to understand (from being much too young), feeling helpless to do anything about it, it’s frightening to try to ask anyone trustworthy at the time, because of fear or the feelings of more negative repercussions, or just the awful acceptance that “it happens a lot to little girls, just get used to it, or try not to ever be alone around boys or men”, so that’s what I tried to do. Eventually, as I aged I luckily learned I didn’t have to take it anymore, alone or with others. I didn’t like the way it made me feel, like I was an object not a person, and I talked back, fought back or whatever it took to stay safe. I was lucky enough to avoid anything truly tragic, but some guys and their egos, always had belittling comments, but down deep I knew I’d done the moral thing and I learned that there are people in this world that have no morals or conscience. I’m 67 now and I still have my”little file box”, but I’m grateful and proud of all you brave women, in position, that speak out now and take the belittling, immoral, and ignorant public abuse from the majority of the apathetic men that, unfortunately, run our country at this time. Thank you for all that you do to speak out, raise awareness and for your compassionate bravery. And most importantly, for being you and an inspiration to so many on so many different levels. Seeing that small clip of the movie and seeing the “real you” blew me away. I could see the vulnerability, I could “see your true beauty and your soul”. I wish you continued success in all that you pursue. The new movie sounds so inspiring, I believe many nominations will come from this “labor of love” by all. I'm glad she used the word triggered unapologetically and unironically. People need to stop treating that as a joke. It literally relates to PTSD and anxiety...the fact people joke about it shows a misunderstanding of how serious it can be. If you got in a car accident then got nervous being in a car, it's understandable. Right? You'd avoid cars for a while. This is the same thing. I wish everyone knew that when hearing the word triggered. Trigger warnings help people stay away from things that can seriously mentally debilitate them so they can function well.
@spammyhell65666 жыл бұрын
+MsYogaGrrrl ~ By your reasoning, why bother w/allergy warnings? why "bubble-wrap" ppl? if they eat something harmful to them, they should just get over it, it'll make them more resilient. Spammy Hell wow that was a really great way of explaining it. I’m gunna put that one in a my back pocket next time my stupid family members say who only babies need trigger warnings
@pickclawraider42066 жыл бұрын
The problem you face is that your definition of trigger warning is much different than what it is today. If a trigger warning were only related to things like PTSD or clinically diagnosed anxiety/depression/etc. that would be one thing. People take legitimate words and warp the meaning to fit their own agenda. Trigger warnings today are more akin to protecting people from any source of possible offense, no matter how mundane or insignificant. The sad truth is that the majority of people will experience a plethora of heart ache, pain and discomfort. It is impossible to be so careful and sensitive as to avoid causing anyone else offense or discomfort by the words we use. Sure, people don't need to be assholes to each other, but I feel my generation and those that follow lack any semblance of resilience or the ability to take a hit and keep on. Under almost no pressure or stress people buckle completely and lose all functionality. This is not healthy. But, to each their own.

Pickclaw Raider, yeah, the thing is, people didn't really understand what TRIGGERED or TRIGGER even mean. Something that makes you slightly uncomfortable? Triggered. I believe it started from the site tumblr, because that's where I saw shit loads of it. Even saw a "trigger warning" for TREES. It was ridiculous and humorous to me from day one. And because of those, the point and meaning of triggered and trigger warnings became a joke, when it's a real, serious thing that exists.

LadyDynamitez, Sure, I understand, and give it to the internet to take anything at all and turn it into a joke, no surprise there, but my point still stands. When something is offensive to me, I turn away from it, turn it off, or separate myself from it. I don't start a crusade to end all things offensive to me, even if it really hurts, then I move on. I try not to be an asshat to people in general, and sometimes perhaps my sense of humor gets the best of me (I tend to be pretty crude, but I'm also considerate of people around me). I just think we should be teaching younger generations to be more resilient and emotionally stronger to be able to weather the difficulties in life without caving in, or making everything such a huge deal. I think far more damage is done by people crying victim, when they dwell and stew over something. It's a fantasy though, things are getting worse and worse.

I've known who Lady Gaga is for a long while. My daughter is a hige fan, but Im more of a classic rock type old hippie. Ive always thought she had a fantastic voice, but just not my style of music. Anyhow, I saw the movie. Just wow. When everyone was exiting the theater, people looked absolutely shell-shocked. Grown men with red and tear stained faces. A lot of them. Now I came across this interview and I realized that I had a big dopey smile on my face the entire time I was watchin hwr speak. She is an absolutely radiant and utterly charming human being. I see now why my daughter thinks the world of her. Definitely planning on seeing her perform the next time she comes to Cleveland. She is one of the rare celebrities who seen genuine. I could kick myself for assuming she was over hyped and probably a passing fad. She has another fan for life.

If you had any doubts about seeing this movie, as Stephen Colbert predicts - everybody will want to see this movie -and they will. With all the bullshit going on in DC, what a great distraction and positive vibe to feel this energy that can motivate you to believe in yourself.

iNanieke mhm and she’s right too, my mom was a survivor of sexual abuse as a child and she didn’t remember until her abuser died. Her brain blocked it out and when he died it all came out in little fuzzy pieces for three years through night terrors and flashbacks. She went through a period of severe depression, anxiety, social anxiety, insomnia, over-sleeping, weight loss and weight gain, OCD, fear of showers and the dentist, disassociation, and mild agoraphobia. She never told her parents, she never went to the police. Gaga’s fucking right and awesome! Fuck Trump, fuck Kavanaugh and fuck the senators who vote for him

"Those were real tears." I was not a fan of lady Gaga and the rwasin was because I felt she got famous because of what I referred to as her "gimic". Please don't hate on me. I am being honest. I didn't give her music a chance. I just couldn't see past it. It distracted me from her talent. Example, Alicia Keys came out with her first hit, it hit a place in me where it took my breath away. I had no idea who this was but her voice went straight to my soul. Barbara Streisand, yep she has always stunned me with her inctedible vocal talent and her acting and directing! So when I heard Gaga sing in the movie trailer, I couldn't breath. She was absolutely breath taking! Now I watch this interview and I am equally amazed and stunned at how beautiful this wiman is on the inside and out! I will be a fan from this day forward! So, thank you Steven and THANK YOU Gaga! Thank you Bradley for beliving in this incredible young lady!

Well to be fair those gimmick were her mastering a different style than most people are used to, high art commercial pop. Her beginnings have been compared to Warhol, artists hated him for his commercialism but he did what he did well. From there she went on to master Jazz, classical, you name it. You might not enjoy everything she did but that's normal, everyone has different tastes. The good thing with Gaga is she's so versatile that she's able to reach audiences of varying tastes through different art forms.
@stephanieengel71315 жыл бұрын
I am right there with you!! I was super annoyed with her music from the beginning because it was just not focused on the artistry (I know the little monsters are going to disagree but I don't mean the costumes and all of the other stuff around the actual voice). I know someone who knows her closely on a personal level and so, yes, I was aware that she is a very different person in her life out of the public eye. But this made me appreciate her as an artist and I am looking forward to exploring her catalogue!
