It used too be under 400 dollars is petty theft charge before 2015 now under 950 dollars is petty theft charge So over 950 dollar is grand theft, but back then before 2015 if it was third time petty theft under 400 dollars was petty theft with priors which also was felony. And also shoplifting any amount was felony back then before 2015, shoplifting was defined as entering the store with the intent too steal meaning it was premeditated petty theft so if they enter store and decide too steal after entering the store then it was still petty theft under 400 a misdemeanor. So back then before 2015: -Premeditated theft aka shoplifting charge was felony punishable up too three years -non premeditated theft under 400 dollars aka petty theft was misdemeanor up too one year -any theft over 400 dollars aka grand theft felony up too three years(you can get over three years if it’s a much larger amount in the tens of thousands in penalty bracket increments -any theft under 400 dollars third time aka petty theft with prior three years Starting from 2015 the premeditated theft rule aka shoplifting was removed so it was only petty theft and the three time prior was removed so no more felony for petty theft and the petty theft requirement increased too 950 dollars instead of 400 dollars and petty theft penalty was reduced too misdemeanor 6 months instead of one year Now since the proposition was passed all the rules remain the same except the prior rule is back so third time petty theft under 950 will be three years

If California can't get it's act together perhaps the state should consider hamurabi's code or Sharia law for these penalties - stealing would likely drop and prevent mass incarceration. Thankfully, the Supreme Court regained reasonableness

Propositions need to get past singly not as a group of bills together because what if you have one good bill and we emphasize only on that good bill but it comes with 10 life changing bills that are negative

Because homes are not free! Someone pays to build them and maintain them. Are you asking everyone to lower their wages such as plumbers, electricians, carpenters? Because if we can’t raise rent we can’t maintain housing.
