I have been on military orders twice at the Naval Air Station in Key West. Obviously we stayed on base for our accommodations but went out every night after work to see something or eat fabulous food. All if us had a great time. But the best time was when my sister flew down for the weekend and we had a blast together. Went walking all over, sailing, parasailing, looked at all the naval equipment, looked over campgrounds for a future stay, watched the chickens roam around, had a couple of awesome meals, met up with some of my Navy buddies plus much more. You’re so correct though on the aircraft background noise. It’s deafening at times but different to see around a highly popular destination where people go on vacation. I see aircraft all the time in my job so it’s something I am use to but that doesn’t mean I want to see it continually. The best relaxation was walking to a pub or dinner spot in the evening when the air travel noise was minimal.

You need to make sure you go lobster hunting before the season closes soon. It's a blast not to mention delicious. We grew up going down to the keys every mini lobster season as well as the regular season. We started way back when you traveled on the bridges that were so narrow we were always afraid out driver side side view mirror would hit the income vehicles driver side mirror. Now they are used as fishing Piers.

We are learning many things from your to do's and not to do's. if you will. Thank You, to the both of you. Have fun, be safe and know we are watching with 5 Stars and Big Thumbs Up to you :)

I ride in the winter and saw your comments about the lithium, Probably not common enough for you, but Since I planned on riding below 40F I bought a lithium 3x more cranking amps than factory. I now can start easily, but warm it up first, I crank for a few seconds, let it sit about 15-30 seconds (let battery heat soak) then it cranks right up!

I did the same thing with a 1300 lb trike. It died on top of a hill. Parked the trailer half way down the hill and let it coast down the hill and it went up up the trailer. Just traded the trike off for a new carry over 2020 Indian Chieftain Limited. Great video by the way. Some day I’ll make it to Key West . Its on my bucket list.

I have heard on some other youtube videos that it is much less expensive to park your RV up on the Keys and then drive down to Key West for the day. I lived with my family in Key west from 1952 to 1957 when my father was stationed at the Navy Submarine base that has since been decommissioned. AS I remember, there was not a lot of tidal exchange in Key West due to being not far from the equator. There used to be a Stock Car Race track on Stock Island back in the mid-fifties. Water in the infield, and water and Mangrove bushes around the track. His previous duty station was Grotton Cn., where I was borne. Great Navy planning. We drove straight through, I remember pounding on my father's shoulders to keep him awake once we got past Miami. I remember that we made the trip in 3 and a half days. Most of the servicemen did that with the idea that they were granted so many days travel time, and if they could make the trip a quick one they saw that as having some free time off before they had to report to duty that did not impact their leave time. There also used to be a Navy Seaplane annex base located near what used to be Perry Court where we lived. At the time we were there Perry Court was a Navy Housing site filled with 8 plex hurricane-proof apartments. From what I have seen through Google earth, the apartments are all gone and what appears to be large private residences on large lots fill that area, but it is still listed as Perry Court. When we lived in Key West, the "7 Mile bridge was a 2 lane road suspended above the water, you no doubt saw it as you drove south on the new bridge. Folks used to fish off the old bridge from little setouts located along the bridge. Their ride would let them off, and drive on, and pick them up after several hours of fishing. It was a great place to live for a kid in the second through seventh grade. My older brother and I fished in Garrison Bight where the fishing boats tied up when not out on the Gulf or Atlantic full of tourists fishing. We caught mostly Yellowtail and Mangrove Snapper, and by snorkeling sometimes we could catch the Spiny lobster all very good eating seafood. I think that the high point of land is 14' above sea level, so there were lots of high curbs to handle the runoff from the tropical rainstorms. I remember that sometimes during thunderstorms, some of our dishes were actually broken by the thunder. I have a lot of great memories from that time in my life. Our next move was to New Jersey in the middle of the worst snowstorm in 50 years. Leave it to the military for planning! Thank you for the memories! But there were literally very few if any places that I recognized from when we lived in Key West... Progress I guess.

Never doubt yourself, go into something with a can-do attitude. If you fail learn from it, find out why you failed, correct, try again and obtain the objective. Yes, the Army taught me that, but it works and you come out always with a positive experience. They play the National Anthem on Navy bases in the AM? Army does Reveille. Great video as always!

My wife & I sold our house in North Georgia and closed it on December 21,2021. We were interested and we’re going to buy an RV after watching your videos and Enjoy the Journey videos. Both are very informative ! So we were riding around in 4 wheels last October in the Daytona area looking for RV parks to park our RV that we were going to buy after the house closed. But after several months of looking at RVs ad your videos that you and Enjoy the journey make. I decided me being 70 was alittle much for a 70 year old man to maintain. While driving around looking for RV parks we had to make a so called pit stop and it was an office for a 55+ community. Long story short, we bought a home in the community on December 23rd and we’re able to move in that day. So we didn’t have to spend Christmas at a truck stop until we found something. Anyway we bought our home in Port Orange, Florida. We’re about 4 1/2 miles from Daytona Beach and 4 miles from Daytona Speedway. Last week was Daytona Bike Weeks 80 anniversary. I mentioned to my wife I wonder if you guys were there since you have that beautiful bike. Every time we got out last week we looked to see if you were on your bike during that time.. anyway as a new Floridian from NW Georgia and those 20 degree temps.. Welcome to Florida and maybe someday we see you guys here in the Daytona area ! Keep up with your fantastic videos of your travels and keeping the uninformed, informed !! 👍🇺🇸❤️👍

Great video! Really enjoy it when you show how you get into the campgrounds and how you manage to get out. And the aircraft wouldn’t bother me cause I work at a fire department at an airport. There use to be a base in Myrtle beach and every year when we went down there would always enjoy watching and listening to the jets as they were taking off and landing right over the beach. Key West is on our bucket list. Also thanks for letting us know where you stop and stayed at on the way down. May have to look some of them up when we are traveling. Safe travels. I took the Dry Tortuga trip the same year you did. I had tried to take it in 15 or 16-can’t remember-but the company called and cancelled while we were heading toward the airport. One of the seaplanes had a pontoon collapse upon landing and had the whole airport shutdown for the rest of the day.

Looks wonderful. When we start part timing in a couple years that is on our list. Please let us know what was up with Lucille. Those spots you backed out of...had one of those "experiences" with our 5er Toyhauler and crew cab long bed dually in Tahoe....avoid Zephyr Cove RV Park on the south shore. It was built a long time ago and is in no way set up for anything longer than a 30 ft trailer in most of the spots. We even had to unhook and put the truck elsewhere on the premises, and while parked there someone stole the bed mat out of the truck. If it hadn't been for a friendly fellow camper who saw me prepping to leave and moved his rig we would have been in a real spot. It is beautiful and a short walk to the shore of the lake, but...well if we hadn't been there for a wedding I would have never dropped the landing gear.
@ChangingLanes3 жыл бұрын
Yikes! Sounds like a rough spot to get out of for sure! About Lucille...the battery died from being in the cold and not on a tender for a month. I think the pop noise was just a backfire when the battery shut off. Our lithium battery has a self-protection/restart feature where it shuts itself off when it gets below a certain charge.

We love your channel and think the information you present is so well thought out and organized! Really the best! I know it's a lot of hard work. One important thing I'd like to point out tho... as an avid and experienced kayaker, one important piece of gear you should consider with your new kayak is a small high volume bilge pump as your ORU is not self bailing like the sit-on-top style of kayaks typically are. Unless you are always going to be in 3ft of water or less, please ignore my well- intentioned comment. Hahaha

Love this area looks beautiful. I work at Wheeler Lake KOA and Hillsboro Alabama myself. My boss had told me about this Campground that was almost $200 a night in the keys and I guess this is it or one of them. Wow seem so very expensive considering arms range from 40 to like 55 and night and we're on the beautiful Lake. But nothing like the keys it's Crystal Clear Water for sure beautiful. I truly enjoyed this video. Safe travels you guys come see us in Alabama at Wheeler Lake KOA one day.

Why pay 180 a night when Big Pine key Fishing Lodge, will house your tent, for 42 a night right on the water like Boyds only better! your more protected, and 0 cost compared to the greed of BOYDS! they suck!

Another great video! Would be a long drive from Minnesota but maybe in a few years we can drag our RV down there for a winter getaway, looks like a gorgeous campground.

Oddly enough, we were watching a Hallmark movie and what should appear? The Kayak. Recognized it from your video. Looks like Key West is a bucket list item.

I hope you guys got a cuban coffee and a breakfast burrito from the De Lunas at Boyds. Probably 1 of the best fast breakfasts in KW. Side note: you may sold my finance committee on E-bikes, as we always take the golf cart to KW. biking seems easier, but regular bikes would be a bit much. Also, if you like cuban food, highly suggest El Siboney, either on Stock or in KW.
