on the subject of tyres, can't remember where you were but when you punctured your tyre the guy mentioned to you that he couldn't replace your 285 but he could if it was 265 as this was the popular size. In my experience while there are lots of trucks out there running BIG tyres i would agree that 265 is the more popular size, also good to remember that bigger tyres are heavier and cost more $$, i run 265 -75- 16 on my troopy which i find very good. if you go for a hard sidewall you will loose some bagging when you reduce pressures off road and you will find them harder on corrugations, i used to run splits long time ago but would never go back - i had to too many flats due to tubes being pinched when off road, also on road performance wasn't great, lastly - stay with a reputable brand, lots out there that are good but just as many that aren't. tread pattern is a personal choice dependent on where you're going, i run Yokohama Geolander AT pattern and have had great mileage (130km+ for 5 tires) with no flats (fingers crossed) they also have a side wall guarantee. as one really smart guy once said - you're not having fun unless the wheels are turning - can't remember where i first said that. hahahah 😄😄😎

1) Your tough tyre options : Split rims with cross ply tyres - MRF and Silverstone in 7.50x16 - 8,10,12, 14 and 16 ply. Not good for wet bitumen but will never get a stake. Perhaps you could do that with the 40 series build ? 2) Forget the boat. Take your troopy to Russia and travel Europe. As John Meillon said "Travel broadens one's horizons". Have a think about it. Imagine diesel for 50c a litre and living on 50 dollars a week instead of 600 ? As Arthur Daley said "The world is your lobster". Obviously Coof Disease is a current issue but that won't stop you. Start travelling and don't stop. You've only got one shot on this marble. Go see how the others live. You'll not regret it. If you never never go you'll never never know (ok, i stole that one from the NT tourist commission). There's a whole big world out there waiting for you. :-)

For comfortable suspension: Check out Terrain Tamer parabolics. I've got the 4 leaf version on my 2020 Troopy which are 500Kg rating, and even with that high Kgs they are still very comfortable. They also do a 3 leaf version which (I think) are 300Kg rating if you want softer, if you don't reckon you have 500Kg in the back.
@itsJackandMegan3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate this is the exact brand I’m thinking of going with! Cheers
@spudboy13283 жыл бұрын
@@itsJackandMegan Have a crack at doing it yourself. It is pretty easy to swap out a set of leaf springs, and it'd make some interesting content. We also did our fronts with the Terrain Tamer progressive springs (think they call them Smart Springs or something) and they are very comfortable too. Much more work involved in doing the front springs though! Especially if you need a caster correction bushings because they are a bugger to press out of their housing.

@@itsJackandMegan Just a follow up comment after going from Adelaide to Innaminka to Birdsville and back home again, that the TT Parabolics became really squeaky when they got dusty. Sort of a rubbing squeal when articulating. Not sure if this is because they are new and it will 'wear in' or if I need to put on some sort of grease, but I'll have to do some investigations. It was a lot better after I got home and Karcher'd it with a pressure washer. But they are soooo much more comfortable than the ARB springs/BP51s in my brothers 70 series!

Hey mate it is a very different market since COVID has hit! If you are mechanically minded check out pickles auctions troopys sometimes pop up for a good deal but are most of the time write offs so need repairing. Otherwise you will just have to keep watching gumtree, Facebook markets, car sales. Are your best bet. Alucab is the company that makes the conversions and iron man are the people that fit them. Hey Gail, thanks for watching! It was pretty much what we expected! To be honest the only thing we would say was unexpected for us was laundry costs! $4 for a small wash sometimes $6, $4 for a dryer and often have to do multiple loads. Obviously we are more then happy to be paying for it but it was something we didn’t really think about before leaving because we just took it for granted at home! And of course the odd caravan park can be extortionate but we usually avoid them 😆

my 2cents worth, Get your partners behind the wheel, even if it's only for short runs. what you would do if you were isolated with no phone reception and the designated driver got injured or sick and couldn't drive - how would you get to help if only one of you can drive the truck, i think it's a must where any off road travel is involved, if you're sticking to the black top then maybe not so critical. 🙂

Always good fun watching your vlogs! Really cool info on this one. I think I’ll be taking a chainsaw on my trip for firewood and maybe for that tree that’s fallen across the track . Land cruiser rebuild. Yes please!

Bring the chainsaw haha petrol or electric?
@steve-deltasdad39063 жыл бұрын
hi guys, Jason is right, i treat my chain saw is a bit my winch, i don't go out intending to use either but they're an insurance policy for that one time you get caught out with a trees across the track or an obstacle you cant drive, you can still carry a small hand saw and mid size axe for every day firewood and if you get into the snowy mountains or tassie you will want a nice fire at night. if anything i would think of up-grading the saw and get an extra battery.

I’d say go anti-clockwise. Driving west across the Nullarbor has a constant headwind and you’re driving into the setting sun, so the light is harsher in the later part of the day. Heading west across the top has shorter stretches and more stops. Not as tiring.

Very good points! Thanks mate.

Hi Guys, Maybe take some pressure off and do the weekly video but cut the vlogs back to fortnightly? Love your content and I am a Patreon and looking forward to others also joining as Patreons to support you in producing more great content 👍

Hey Henry we are considering this and releasing a higher quality video once a week when we return home this is something we will definitely be doing. Thanks for the support mate! 😊👍
