Thanks for visiting the Freshcutky organic gardening channel. In the garden, I will answer some of the most common "gardening for beginners" type questions I get, including growing flowers from seed. Growing greens, growing flowers, and planting beautiful organic food is something I'm really passionate about. Thank you for joining me as I learn to grow flowers, cut flowers, vegetables, and much more. Freshcutky youtube channel and related media are for entertainment purposes only.
Many ornamental flowers and cut flowers are TOXIC. ALWAYS do your own research and take responsibility for the plants that you introduce around your kids, pets, and everyone else. Use common sense when handling plant materials: wear gloves, always wash hands, avoid contact with face, etc. NEVER consume any plant which has not been positively identified with complete certainty to be safe and edible. Before planting anything, research to determine whether specific flowers are considered invasive where you live or if there are laws that apply to their planting in your area.

What is "@freshcutky"?
@freshcutky documents the pursuit of my goal of one day owning my own cut flower farm. Along the way, you'll see random projects, cooking, and of course - growing stuff. I'm not an expert, and would never claim to be. There's always more to learn - this is my journey. The purpose of my blog, and other social media accounts (including KZbin) is to share ideas. I do my best to offer information that is useful, but reliance on that information is strictly at your own risk and NOT a substitute for professional advice of any kind. I have 1 that bloomed late because I planted it first week of August and it's soo crispy white soo eye catching!! I have to stake them alot. I get my bulbs at doller general 6 bulbs for 2$ and they work great as if they came from a catalog. There 60 cents for 6 now 70% off and I grabbed 3 boxes!! They will sit till next summer and be just as good!! Same with my seeds there 8cents now and they will be just if not better when I plant them!! FYI when I store them in my car from Sept to Oct they grow extra buds on them so now I have idk 20 more🤣🤣. That purple one is one of the colors I have alot of. The sky is the limit when it comes to flowers! I love your channel very informative!!

I grew glads in quantity for the first time last year with blooms from June until frost! A wonderful bonus to growing them is that I saw some American Bumblebees (endangered or almost endangered) for the first time! In addition to regular glads I planted hardy glads specifically Abyssinian Glads. Such graceful plants and needing no staking. I was so inspired I made a video “Glad for glads.”

Yep I'm with you here. I grew them for the first time this season (in Australia, so I'm digging them up now). First, I was shocked at how beautiful they are in real life. I grew them as a trial and handed out bunches to friends, and second, I was surprised at their reaction! They LOVED them and wanted to buy bunches regularly. So I'm on board the gladdy train and ordering more... Great video, showing their gorgeous, delicious colour range..

I think glads are making a come back for cut flowers as I've seen many on KZbin growing them. The Forte Rosa is gorgeous, thought they would be perfect with the one white ones at the end that had the coral centers. I live in North Central IN (zone 5b) and I had a bag of glad bulbs to plant, but could not find them until a couple weeks ago, so it's a bit late now to start them. I love Glads 😍 so I planted loads. first time growing them but unfortunately the thrips have attacked them all 😟 not sure if I should just pull them up and throw the corms away? The flowers when they appear are just all mottled. Did u just leave yours in the ground when u had thrips if so did they grow back ok? ☹️
@TONYAwiththeflowers
@TONYAwiththeflowers 3 жыл бұрын
I've read that thrips can be controlled with a period of cold treatment. Since it gets cold here in the winter, I just left them in the ground. The infected plants from last year came back and about half of them had beautiful blooms - the other half haven't bloomed, just lots of green foliage. Dipping the corms before planting really did make a huge difference this year. Hope that helps!
@gardengatesopen
@gardengatesopen 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't grown any Glads, but I have heard you and other YT flower growers talk about dipping them bcuz of the thrips. I'm very curious, is this bcuz the larvae live inside the corms? Or do they live on the outside part of the corns? Or is it something else? My uneducated guess would've thought the larvae would live in the soil. But apparently this is not true. Do you know?

Hi. Can i ask how many hours of sum your glads have? Or more or less the location in your garden? Full sun, shade, or half shade? One advantage of lift your gladiolus at the and of the season is on the next season you can do a succession planting every 2/3 weeks and maybe you can match them with dahlias. Stay safe.
