Hence why I said the current generation of PS3. The first gen of phat NTSC PS3 actually had extra PS2 CPU/GPU hardware inside to run the games. Later this was changed to just the PS2 GPU combined with software emulation. Although, as a result compatibility was greatly reduced. My point being, PS2 emulation is not easy and even Sony themselves couldn't manage it on the relatively powerful PS3. So the original Xbox emulating a PS2 is out of the question.
@shaungreer33502 жыл бұрын
i’m really late to this but even today i highly doubt the xbox original could emulate ps2. Currently a hacked ps3 can emulate ps2 however. I can’t wait until the ps4 is easily hacked in a few year hopefully, and even in the future the ps5. Maybe when the ps6 / 7 is out lmao

Thanks!. I can't remember the exact amount because I modded it over a number of months a few years ago. Probably near the £400 mark though. That includes the Xbox itself, hard drive screen etc (prices for that stuff back in 2006 were a bit higher). As for hours spent, not too many. You could probably do all the mods in a day or 2 if you had everything to hand. You should give it a go, it's a lot of fun and not too difficult :)

Man... That is a sweet machine. If I had the patience to do this, I would do it the way you did. As I am a lazy bastard, all I did to my XBOX was flashing the HDD and instaling XBMC to it via FTP. I also hardwired a USB port to the side of the console for pendrive support and I made a hole in the case to fit the port in there without having external wires. Then I figured that it will only mount very few pendrives up to 4GB. But your project is just amazing. Congratulations from the UK.

The original Xbox actually has 64MB DDR SDRAM as standard. And, if you really want, you can do an upgrade mod so it'll have 128MB. Useful for getting some MAME games to run :) The 36MB shown on my XLCD was just the available free memory while running XMBC.

If you're still regularly using that machine for multimedia stuff, you might be interested in finding the remote from the Windows Media Center Extender Kit (rare), or a universal programmed for the extender kit's codes. It has a lot more functions that are actually supported in XBMC. The addition of page up/down alone is worth it, personally.

ah, yeah. true, lots of motherboards dont support IDE anymore. i've got quite a few old spare boxes around so i just used one of them. you could actually just buy an IDE to USB adapter for about $5 and use that. you actually dont even need to reboot the computer, if you are knowledgeable enough you can simply use a PC emulator like QEMU, and tell it to use the hard drive directly as well as the ISO disk image for that xboxhdm thing.

And unlike the Failbox360... THIS THING STILL WORKS! _Well mine still does..._ I don't have the X3 or a SmartXX Chip in mine though I only have the XBIT Chip in mine. So no Display for me. But I have my XBOX riced out with the Jewel Mod, and Blue/Red/Purple Ring. Plus all the Ports also have Blue LEDs in them. I have to say that modding my XBOX was a lot of fun back then. It just makes me sad that I'll probably never get to upgrade the CPU and Memory on my system..... Which make me wonder if doing that would improve the video playback on XBMC? When it comes to HD720p stuff. That my Box seems unable to cope with.

I'm not sure if you're taking the piss or just being 'that guy' but what platform do you think XBMC was originally and exclusively developed for? Yes it was recently rebranded and original Xbox support dropped but the original name and concept came from Xbox Media Center. Also, this console was modded way back in 2004-5 with this video being recorded some around 2009 so what XBMC stands for nowadays is kinda irrelevant.

Yeah, once you have the tools, it is very easy to mod these cool little boxes and add XBMC, and a ton of emulators without having to add a larger hard drive (this is relatively easy too). With XBMC you play just about any video or audio file you can throw at it from MKV to MP4 to AVI to MP3...you get the picture. Just watched season 1 and 2 of the original Life On Mars using my Xbox. Very cool indeed.

Not true. The original Xbox supports HD resolutions just fine. Many games support 720p and some even do 1080i. All that's required are a set of component cables and to have the Xbox's region set/switched to NTSC. Blu-ray is just a storage medium and HDMI an audio/video interface. Neither have anything to do with whether or not a device is capable of outputting a HD resolution.
@dmaxwell8911 жыл бұрын
i'm impressed. can you turn off and on the console with the dvd remote without the mod? might be a stupid question but my power switch doesn't work.
@Zantor13511 жыл бұрын
Thank you for explaining this to people. I have a 360 running 1080p owith component. Most people think you need HDMI for that. Sure cables have their limits. I think 4K is above the limit of component and composite will not do HD as far as I know. 4K and maybe 3D is were I think you need HDMI. But like you said the type of connection does not determine whether it is HD or not.
