99% done with my X1 budget build, kept as 27.5 (i do have a mullet 27.5 hardtail and love it). Himalo 160mm up front, DNM shock, Advent 9 spd drivetrain, and IXF crank. Got ambitious and bought a WTB i40 boost wheelset, and took alot of hardware mods and adapters but got them installed and the brakes to fit (again with mods). Keeping the mechanical setups at the rotors but changed the cables and levers, new bars and headset and converted to sealed upper and lower bearings. New grips, pedals and 125 dropper, which works for me as i am 5'-8". Loss some weight but still kinda heavy (about the same as your build). But rides great, very smooth and agile. And you will get used to the mullet. Already did an Ardor build and love it. Last thing I want to do is change the tires, if I try to run them lower pressure the sidewalls don't hold and just roll over.

I've been mountain biking for decades and I'm starting to rethink everything. I went on a ride over the holiday weekend, there was a lot of soft Sandy patches. The guys running the 27 by 3in tires had such a leg up, especially on the downhills. They just had so much more grip were the rest of us were all over the place. I'm running 29 x 2.25, and I was getting beat by guys I would normally smoke.

that 30,9 seatpost would make it a lot better. i myself have a 2017 orbea alma h30 with a 27,2 post and no internal routing for a dropper. the seattube is 17,5 inch and most 125 mm droppers are to short to even fit me without going under the minimum insertion. Great video and like quality upgrades that aren’t technically budget but good value! How do you find the Horizon high engagement rear compared to rear hubs on your other bikes? I am thinking of them for my GT Avalanche
@chickensendies3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Kevin and thank you for the kind words! I am big in bang for buck but also budget friendly 😁😁😁 I definitely love high engagement hubs and have been very impressed with the Horizon V2s. If you have the extra cash I definitely recommend them! The nice thing is you can get different adapters for them so if you ever get a different bike you can switch them over!

@@chickensendies good to know! I had picked up a brand new takeoff marzocchi Z2 and was going to get horizon front boost wheel but they were endlessly Covid out of stock 😢 so I found a used front rim off a Stumpjumper. I was thinking long term to also get horizon rear for high engagement and as they have adapters like you state that can fit my current boost 141 but also full boost for future!

@@chickensendies I’m just getting back into biking but I love the fork so far! I like that it is much more no nonsense that some of other high end forks. Unfortunately wanting 29” boost 15x110 was most popular size and it was never coming in stock. I’m up in Canada so was going thru Canadian distributor. I used to be able to ship parts to a US shipping and receiving business and go and pick them up as I live right near the border but land crossing into US is still closed for us Canadians. We are letting Americans in but it hasn’t been reciprocated yet! Lol

Do you think a Bontrager Kovee Elite 23 Rear MTB Carbon Wheel // 27.5" 142mm will work?

@@chickensendies Thanks for the quick reply. I'm 5'8 with a 30.5" measured inseam... Maybe one day could yout take your budget builds like this one and do a quick video measuring the basics on these bikes? The info on geometry is lacking on a lot of big box mtb's. A video like that would be super valuable to us entry level prospects looking for a good starter bike. Me and my gf are identical height and I'd love to find a set of bikes for her and I to enjoy.

@@chickensendies Maybe I'm unique. lol. I have an engineering background so I live by numbers; Especially when bikes are just a system of Levers. I tend to over think things but if I'm going to spend monney on an entry level bike, It makes me feel better knowing certain angles work for me.
