I installed the Fumoto oil drain valve on my Ford Ranger, and I really like it. Less mess. One bonus item about installing this unit is if you accidentally overfill your crankcase, you can EASILY drain off a little until the level is right. By the way, you really should put some jackstands under the truck if you are going to crawl under it. Don't rely on the jack alone to hold it up.

Lol. Jack is not holding the truck. All it’s doing is leaning it so that we can get more oil out. We fit under there and can work freely without any jacks

The one on my Mustang and my old 1990 F150 didn't come with the plastic lock, but I never had any issues with the valve ever. The 5.0L in my old F1 had a Milodon 8 qt. oil pan with dual sumps, and 2 drain plugs. I left a short piece of hose on the forward one, just long enough to clear the cross-member that it would normally drain on top of without the valve. They made super easy and I could drain both sumps into the same pan, at the same time without making a mess. Highly recommended!

Grab some 3/8" tubing to make it real easy to direct the flow while draining the oil. You can get a nipple plastic cover for the Fumoto Valve or tubing if you decide to use tubing from any hardware store.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad

Yeah planning on getting them from the hardware store. Not getting the kits online. Charging way too much for like a $0.25 cap and $2 worth of tubing

Been using on my 2018 raptor since new.....pro tip.....keep a 5 quart bottle from your last fill. Go to home depot, get clear plastic 3/8 tube to connect from the valve and run down into empty 5 quart jug. Darin. Replace with new jug when full, recycle the oil. You never have to get the oil drain pan out again.

Of course, but an open pan works better than this crap closed pans. And they leak like crazy when you take it back for recycling. I have 2 open pans now for different applications and make far less mess and easier to transport the oil

Do you think not having the magnetic drain plug could be a downside to installing this product I have never had metallic particles on mine changing the oil but it does seem like good insurance to keep particles from circulating through the engine.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad 3 жыл бұрын
Magnetic drain plug can’t catch it all with the pressures the oil gets out thru. It’s really just a way to let you know there is a problem. Not catch it all. If there is a problem, you will see it come out regardless

How is burning oil normal and typical?
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Жыл бұрын
All modern performance engines burn a little bit of oil. Some more than others. Rotary engines burn the most and part of the normal operation. All turn engines, burn a little bit of oil as part of their normal operation. Some NA engines even burn oil and you have to check the oil level regular so they don’t run dry. It’s how some engines work and surprised you did not know that.

My mechanic advised me to change that oil every 3k mile he knows I do it myself he’s a Ford race type mechanic told me the turbos cost 6k and changing will prevent that. From going bad fwiw
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad 2 ай бұрын
IMO that’s the old thinking from the good old days. Oil quality is much higher these days and at 3000 miles, the oil has not even broken down for regular use. Race applications is different. In a race vehicle oils get changed out every single race. Even the shocks get rebuilt every single race. So there it makes sense. But in regular driving and occasional off-roading, every 3k miles is wasteful.

@ I’ll take the xtra 150 insurance the Exxon Valdez poured more oil than we would in a lifetime times couple million and I mine as well use that 40 dollar fumoto for a reason change that oil the maker of the gtr engine says 2k max to make it last long and he’s not a novice turbos 6k remember that
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad 2 ай бұрын
That’s a different engine type all together. High tolerance engines need more frequent oil changes. It’s basically a race engine and most don’t even idle right until they are up to temp. The engine in your truck is not that. Earlier I would do is every 6000 miles with heavy off-roading. You’re not getting any insurance or extra protection by doing it at 3000 miles. You’re just wasting money and oil.

I’ve talked about this topic many times before man. I have not found any supporting info to show me I need to do 5k oil changes. Oil was in good shape here, my last truck I did 10k oil changes and never had engine problems, this truck is doing the same. With the high quality oils and how thin this oil is, anything under 6k oil changes is a waste

@@tundras4ever552 just thought I'd add a comment on the oil loss, in 10k miles it's likely from the PCV system (likely only enough to make it "a little low" and not critical loss that would effect anything. You can see the oil lost with an oil catch can on the PCV system but without it it's burnt off when it's cycled back into the intake.

You can’t ever get all the oil out. We let ours sit for about 30 min and she was still dripping. Point is to get as much out as possible and with the valve we won’t have to worry about extra messy oil changes anymore and could also sample oil between changes without draining the whole pan.

Mr. Muro love the video as always. Check into the Valvomax stainless oil change valve. Test one out . I believe it is a way better design.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad 4 жыл бұрын
In some ways yeah it’s a better design. It has a build in dust cap, draining rate could be adjustable, and it’s a more complete kit. But it has a few drawbacks. The dash cap is a hand screw type and can easy come off with offroad vibration. After some time I could see the cover getting stripped from over tightening. If the cover does come loose, I could see that ball getting gunned up and possibly leaking. But it’s biggest drawback Is cost. almost double. And now you have an extra part to carry around if you want to drain the oil.
