I love the Tarkin novel!!!! There are a lot of great SW authors (many of whom I wish were still writing for the franchise) but when you read Luceno’s books you can tell how knowledgeable he is about the franchise with his nods and mentions to other stuff.

Luceno’s writing is excellent. The narrative is so engaging, exciting and thorough. His ability to set the ambience of a given location is second to none. I have listened to the Tarkin Audiobook multiple times and thought it was fantastic. I also purchased the book which I have read most of. I highly recommend this book as it really fills in a lot of gaps in the original trilogy. The part I found particularly intriguing was palpatines quest for ultimate power and the reluctant professional relationship between Tarkin and Vader. There’a a lot more to Tarkin than just what was seen in Ep.4. It’s a shame he wasn’t developed more on screen. An intriguing character for sure.

Another fun fact, was during the discription of the uniform re-design, and the fact of the boots had to be comfortable, to contrast the complaints Peter Cushing had about the costume he wore during a new hope.

Tarkin was one of the first canon novels I read. I got it in paperback in "The Rise of the Empire" collection were it was paired alongside New Dawn. Its kind of funny, a lot of people seem to dislike New Dawn but reading Tarkin before it and then going into New Dawn with the shortstories included in the book is a surprisingly great transition. Tarkin is dark and evil, New Dawn was light hearted and fun. Sort of a Yin-Yang pairing. As such, New Dawn pairs with Tarkin surprisingly well as sort of a message of a hopeful rebellion rising after seeing Tarkin in his novel so ruthlessly destroy rebels. Also major props to how Tarkin incorporates Legend's material back into the canon. It amazes me to hear these references and to think just how much research some authors put into their Star Wars books.

Do you recommend paperback books? Do they degrade easily or should i go with a hardcover book. Asking because i'm buying Dark Disciple and Ahsoka soon
@jacoblyman9441
@jacoblyman9441 6 жыл бұрын
I have been buying paperbacks for the most part, since they usually are about $10 cheaper than the hardcovers. I have not had any experiences with degrading binding or anything of that sort with my paperbacks. But mind you I live in a high desert, low humidity environment. So the only way I could see the binding coming apart is if I handled them roughly. I have a few older paperbacks in my collection which came from my parents or grandparents and they are still in good condition with the only issue being the paper yellowing. Again though, the low humidity probably helps.

Yeah, I have Rise of the Empire. I wanted to get the Jason Fry story as well. New Dawn was alright, but probably overlong. Tarkin was too short, and Luceno does have some awkward quirks he uses and word choices (like decant, and cachet)

I actually tried introducing my mom to Star Wars novels shortly after Rogue One came out by lending her my copy of Catalyst. She couldn't get through it because of all the psuedo-science terms and talk about starship classes etc. I really enjoyed that aspect of Luceno's writing, and it hadn't occurred to me that it would turn off others to the book until after I hear that from my mom.

@bucketofparts
@bucketofparts 6 жыл бұрын
I think it's kind of a "fun fact" to get confirmation that Tarkin had essentially deduced Vader's identity. And that he knew there was something fishy surrounding the motivations behind the Clone War...he simply didn't care what. Tarkin was a genius, and I loved the way the novel was able to convey that through his thoughts and actions, not simply telling us how smart he was through exposition.
