Fun tune job for impala SS with "stock" LT1 and TorqHead

I love the TorqHead (LS1 PCM) system. Even on a stock LT1.
This car drives and feels like a brand new 1996 SS but with large runs/tires. For engine feel it reminds me of my 1995 DGGM when it was brand new.
You might also noticed that on the voltage offset versus manifold pressure fuel table that I forgot to put all of the data the same as the 100 kPA column. Thanks to Matt Hogan for noticing that. I thought about it and decided that since the car was tuned with that data, then I’m going to leave it as it is. Ideally it would’ve been best to start with the voltage offsets in every column the same as what the 100 KPA data and then tune, but it was tuned on that table and it’s running great.

I have spent tons of Money and time chasing the thrill of this thing being correct. Karl went above and beyond in handling this. I’m not smart enough to know how he did it. What I will say is all the other tuners said that the car had slow 02s or a vacuum leak, or blah blah blah. If you want it right call on Karl. Also shot out to my neighbor Chauncey Washington for getting me to Detroit and glen koeing for helping send me in the right direction prior to this, he took a lot of time to help me from the time we met trying to correct things that were wrong. The impala community is amazing .Thanks guys ❤

Karl and Glen are senior veterans of Tri-9 Impalas. Great to hear that you finally have that beast running correctly Chris!

Chris was telling me just now that it was Glen who got the idle to work correctly. Good job Glen. I did not touch a thing with idle. It was perfect.

What Wide band O2 Sensors were used and how were they pigtailed into the cabin? I have Racetronix 28# injectors and the AFR has never been right since.

Hi Aaron, Chris has Innovate wide band. I think the wires come into the cabin from the transmission shifter cable hole. Usually the Innovate works fine but for some reason these are showing 9 AFR when it is 12 to 13 AFR. The car was running pretty dang good when I received it. (I did not try a wide open throttle). As far as aftermarket wide bands and aftermarket O2 sensors....the way I approach the tuning is to trust the car's factory narrow band for all tuning (except wide open throttle). And sometimes I ignore all O2 readings if the cam is big or there is hint of exhaust leaks.

I have to fix mine here. I had a Herter tune and it would not "Crack" detonate when its warm restarted. OEM factory tune did. I have some added file now like half someones and half someone else. Stock LT1 from that Alex Guy in NY ... Poof. Warm restart It will Detonate when it warm starts.. I hate that.

Is it the LT1 PCM? Maybe the Opti is aftermarket with the rotor installed wrong by the aftermarket manufacture.

@@EllweinEngines Yup 95 ECM. Stock Opti I took it apart once. Its just a weird warm CRACK when its restarted every time like it detonates the second the engine fires over Car only has 48k. Finally used it after about 2 years. Surprisingly it still goes down the road ok

I for whatever reason couldnt get those FIC injectors to run right with my stock lt1 with the torqhead kit even with the correct data inputted. But i could get my cheap gen 4 ls injectors to work awesome This car is a skirt caprice with everything ported over from an Impala, really cool stuff Other things that i adjusted for is EOIT settings on the stock torqhead tune isnt setup for lt1 cam settings so i modified those parameters Spark dwell settings to match whatever ignition coil you are running Fuel transient settings from a vortech intake tune that has a similar shape to ours since the ls1 intake has cathedrial ports which the base torqhead settings are set to. Whether it makes a difference idk, but i at least want the correct settings on there

I think it was tuned pretty dang good by you because it ran quite well when I received it and during my one test data logging drive. (I did not even realize it was in speed density on my cruise data log test drive). I did see it was real time tuning speed density OS and that is good stuff for tuning. I left your EOIT setting as you had it (and I did not even check spark dwell settings)...good of you to get that. I should have checked that. Did not even think of that. I'm thinking (but not tested) that the fuel injector voltage offset table was the only "big" change on my end that may have "improved" things. Once I turned on the MAF again it was easy to tune wide open throttle. I like to leave cars richer than (perfect) especially at power enrich. My bracket racing impala SS is 12.0 AFR at WOT. Just trying to take this opportunity to put out generalities that may or may not help the casual tuner. On this tune job it was more of a verification of the Innovate 9 to 1 AFR and was that even right? Sure did not feel like 9 to 1. It felt like good fueling actually.

@@EllweinEngines Just FYI it wasn't me who tuned Chris's car, Glen helped a ton at the ISSCA nats. But glad the car is running nice now this information is crucial to guys starting out with the torqhead swap and not getting fleeced by their tuners.
