Pete, remember to pull the shutoff cable out about 3/4 of the way when starting the 756 cold. This changes the injection timing making the engine start easier. Push the shutoff cable back in, when the motor is running smoothly, and you are on your way. Your 756 is in a lot better condition than mine, and I find I only need ether when the temperature is below 20° F. 😎

I love the videos with your new 756. My dad in the late 60's factory ordered a brand new 856. About a year later he put a M&W turbo on it. He always said that in his entire farming carreer the 856 was his favorite tractor. I agree. I finally sold it to another farmer in the mid 2000's when I retired. I miss the sound of that work horse. His tractor lineup: McCormick 15-30?; F14; F30; H; 660; 856; 1566; 5488; 5220; JD2020; TD6; D4 Cat.

With the larger poo spreader, you should have 40% fewer loads to take to the field. That also equates to less fuel burned spreading that poo! It should take probably at least 35% of the time off of spreading too.

Thanks for another reminder of a great childhood memory; spreading manure. I grew up on a small beef farm in southwestern Pennsylvania, and, like you cleaning the barn and spreading manure on the fields was an early spring ritual for my father. Unfortunately, another early spring ritual was my grandmother looking forward to stripping the beds and hanging everything on the clothes line for that "fresh" spring smell. Well, as you can imagine, it never failed, she'd start early getting the wash done and on the line only to have dad (who worked midnight shift in a Latrobe steel mill), come home and decide to spread the manure. It was always a bit of a "smelly" subject for them. And, like Hilary, I'm the one nudging my hubby to "buy it"! Best wishes for some better weather.

When we bought our retirement place the main part was an overgrown agriculture field that was at least 6 ft high mangle of weeds, shrubs, volunteer trees, etc. The first few cuttings I used a borrowed open station tractor and brush cutter. In the 90 degree plus heat it really beat me to death not to mention the dehydration even when drinking as much liquids as possible that took me days to recover. Then it came time to buy my own tractor. I'm thinking of all the upcoming expenses for moving to the new place and was trying to minimize cost. So I was looking for open station tractors. Normally I'm the spender and my wife is the money miser. I'm talking to her about all my options to save on the tractor and had ruled out a Cab tractor due to the extra cost. She said with my lack of tolerance to heat I really needed to buy a cab tractor. 😳 When my tight as a tick wife says to spend money it only takes one time to get the message. Boy I'm sure glad I listened to her. I married way above me and better than I deserve without a doubt.

I think that is one of the hardest things about farming. Prioritizing what needs to be done next without succumbing to doing the easy job at the expense of not getting the difficult projects done. It's easy to look busy, much harder to buckle down and do what has to be done, regardless of how monotonous or strenuous it is.

Hey Pete I have a 706 with 310 D it has a "cold start" setting on the Bosh fuel pump you pull the engine stop out and let in go back in about a 1/8-1/4 of an inch this is to give it a shot of fuel to the cylinders. I have had this tractor for years and has always started right up without starting fluid.

Especially with the correct voltage. I "converted" a Farmall Model C to 12 volt alternator. The starter did not like that, but the 12 volt lights were wonderful. You really have your poop together when it comes to spreading it!! When you showed that spreader tossing it out I was confused. If your wife finds out how much fun it is to run that 756 you might need another tractor,LOL.Nice save on the spreader slat bar.It usually breaks the side chain, so yours cant be too bad. When spreading in springtime or anytime it dips below freezing at night, run a pitchforks tines under each slat in the bed of the spreader and if they run on a rail underneath hit them with a hammer to break free if froze down.Last load for the day in that kind of weather let it run empty a few revolutions of the apron to clean off the buildup on the side chain links to prevent frozen buildup.Good loading technique, many farmers dammage their spreaders by dumping loads in from the sky. Why?ask them, but its a problem. If you spread really tough manure with alot of hay which spreads hard ,dont load higher than the beaters. It wont hang over the beaters and you will get fewer clumps. Most spreaders are made for dairy type manure, not beef feedlot manure but guys like us can get by fine. Also put a pin in your hitchpin if you dont.As the spreader unloads the hitch looses its tongue weight with the manure load behind the spreader axel. This sooner or later will pump out a hitchpin. The spreader seems to function fine and it sure is nice to work with good equipment. Its good to see they put decent batteries on the 756 to sell it ,even if wrong. The 6 volts may have cost more but personally I think double twelves is an improvement, once hooked up properly as you did.Its a pretty easy mistake to make.Sharp eye to catch that.

You are a wee bit over-tractored. My uncle in South Dakota had a 756 as his primary tractor for a number of years. He farmed 600 acres including around 200 acres of corn and soybeans and the 756 would pull a four 14 inch bottom plow. He also had two Farmall M's, one with a mounted loader and the other for more general use (it could mount a four row cultivator for use on contoured hilly fields. The rear cultivator for the 765 would wipe out rows when used on the contour. When my family visited the farm I would ride along, and in later years occasionally drive one of the tractors. Your channel brings back fond memories.
