For the first time thinking of ambulating with abducted rt ft / with what was taught as neutralizers - your gait example was to show you need to tone up internal rotators. Being confused doing piriformous stretch can correct abducted foot?? For a brief time it works then back to abducted right foot. I can not figure out why piriformous would need stretched often to correct rt ft abduction. What muscle is not doing its job? Or is the antagonist muscle stronger? ? Or am I looking at weak piriformous? Can you give this extremely novice student insight please? Thank you.

Hey brent, good news I've passed my practical assessment. Was waking up 6:15am studying before work, and was studying from 5:15pm till 12:00am for 11 days straight. Broke down the whole body, and each exercise approach. So eccentric/Negatives. To remember. I adapted a saying 'My client thinks negative, I think positive, positive ='s the lifting phase, negative = lowering phase. My assessor picked supersets, Prime vs Opposing muscle. I did biceps curl and triceps pulldown. Tri Sets, = Shoulder press, front raise, lateral raise. pre exhaust, quads - leg extension - isolation and leg press for compound. Forced reps, lat pulldown, last 4 offered the help. Although with the triceps, my client tried to pull rope overhead after me showing her to pull the rope down in front, we went back to this so she had more range of movement. My mother is now hooked on your video's, and now wants to learn more to try out new exercises in the gym. Thank you so much for your unique teaching skills. I'm becoming obsessed with the body and it's mechanics.

Dear Brent, I am totally new to anatomy, I am not a student or anything, basically just want to extend my knowledge as a sports and calisthenics fan so I would like to ask where would the triceps muscle be categorized during shoulder horizontal adduction, isn't it a synergist too? I mean it works too during bench press or pushup for example, or am I looking at it from wrong perspective? I guess the weight is not a necessary element in the movement as such, therefore the confusion maybe, appreciate your answer, thank you.

Dr. Brookbush, could you explain the "fixator" portion again? I understood that it is proximal to the joint you are working with. Locking it down, to only allow the distal joint to work. But could you explain what the fixator would be for hip extension again? Thank you. Awesome approach and excellent teacher. Nick
@BrookbushInstitute
@BrookbushInstitute 7 жыл бұрын
The fixator for hip extension would be your core muscles... that is, muscles that stabilize your lumbar spine and pelvis so that your hip muscles have a stable base to pull from. Dr. B2

so how do we train/strengthen the Neutralizers, Stabilizers & Fixators?
@BrookbushInstitute
@BrookbushInstitute 8 жыл бұрын
Hey Mordough, Interesting question. So fixator strengthening would be essentially "Core Stabilization" training, which is a common topic in the fitness and performance worlds. Neutralizers and stabilizers come into play when you start to look at corrective exercise models and addressing underactive, overactive, short and long muscles, but... The take away of the video should be that all of these muscles are working during every movement, a dysfunction in anyone of these structures can affect the quality of motion and performance, and knowledge of anatomy is essential to optimizing training and rehab ;-) Dr. B2

@BrookbushInstitute

You could likely consider the rhomboids a stabilizer, but they are also an antagonist. It is a little tricky to analyze the scapular muscles as I discuss in this video, but the idea is that you understand the concept. Dr. B2

@BrookbushInstitute
@BrookbushInstitute 8 жыл бұрын
Hey Shawn, Actually, no... the lower trapezius is an upward rotator of the scapula, pulling down on the root (medial side) of the spine of the scapula. They are synergists for that joint action.Dr. B2

Prime mover- the muscle that has the best angle to make the movement. Produces the most force. Synergistic the muscles - Working together - all of the muscles that assist the Prime Mover. Antagonist - resist - all of the muscle that oppose. Neutralizers- the muscles that will oppose the eg- Hip extension - glute max - main muscles -Stabilizers- are muscles that are closer to the joint - rotator cuff stabilising muscles fixator muscles - lock down

Hey Brent, At 6:13 you mention that "all your glute max knows what to do is fire. It doesn't know how to separate between extension and external rotation." Does this mean that all muscles perform ALL their functions all the time when they are activated but are kept in check by the neutralizers so that the unwanted functions/movements are not performed?
@BrookbushInstitute
@BrookbushInstitute 9 жыл бұрын
Ronin That is exactly what that means. There are some muscles that may fire in parts, for example the Traps - which have distinct upper, middle and lower fibers, but something like the glute has a single neural innervation. Although different parts of the gluteus maximus may have different responsibilities brentbrookbush.com/gluteus-maximus/ - all parts seem to fire when called upon. Amazing how complex, yet how eloquent and simple the human body really is ;-) Sincerely, Dr. B2

Brent Brookbush How would YOU, or do you, incorporate Tom Meyers (Anatomy Train) theory of "Fascia is like the Cinderella tissues of the body. There is one muscle that exists in 600 fascial pockets." into what you share here?
@BrookbushInstitute
@BrookbushInstitute 9 жыл бұрын
Daniel J Sanidad Interesting idea, I think we would have to take a larger look at integrated movement patterns and how fascia helps to contribute to these roles via synergies. The two must exist in synergy. I really enjoy the work of Tom Myer's, but I do not agree with all of his lines, I think more research needs to be done to validate some of the relationships - this could have a major impact on the ability to integrate "Anatomy Trains" into what we already now about human movement. Sincerely, Dr. B2
@fulbodfit
@fulbodfit 9 жыл бұрын
Brent Brookbush Thank you for your reply. I agree, further research is important to continue to help connect the dots. Would personally enjoy an opportunity to hear more on what you agree/disagree in reference to Myer's work. Possible? I appreciate your approach to educating. I hear an intention to empower your expertise to others with simplicity and non ego. Thank you, Daniel Sanidad Coach Sanity

Daniel J Sanidad I don't think I am well versed enough to get in a whole-hearted debate with a man who has spent his life researching, teaching and writing about fascia (Tom Myers)... I just see some areas where, as you have noticed, things don't seem to easily mesh with what we know. I think this is an opportunity for further learning. I hope Tom Myers continues his work and in the next couple of decades we see an integrated teaching approach to human movement that includes 4 systems.... Articular, muscular, neural and fascial. Thanks, B2

Trainers going to fast with teaching and cramming in course too much. Have had to break down, to understand what is being used in Giant Sets, Tri Sets. Thank you for throwing agonist out the window, and there's me thinking fixators and stabilisers are the same thing. Text books are too confusing, and conflicting.

Peanut butter leaves me greasy!! This guy teaches how I learn. Have to learn nutrient, but this is way more interesting. May have to use this learning for nutrient to make it easier for tomorrow. So so helpful can you please come to UK London to teach. My teachers spend 15 to 20 minutes teaching, then say right now go to the gym and practice. Practice what!!! I don't understand.

Would love to, I have several friends who train and practice Jiu Jitsu, but with a history of 3 cervical herniations and brachial neuritis it's a sport that is probably better off not started for me ;-) Dr. B2

Thank you for the support, but I shutter to think of working in a University. Let's just say that most of my experience with academia has not been particularly positive. I am sure there is a University out there that would be a great fit... who knows I could end up your University in the future. Dr. B2

there were no need to humiliate the guy who read the first sentence on the slide. If it was me i would had felt bad and stopped speaking or answering any of your questions, scarred from your reaction to the "wrong" answer. Prof Brent Brookbush ......

I appreciate the comment, although you should keep in mind we were several hours into class and I had been able to build some rapport. Although you have to be careful, I do think the injection of humor to keep engagement is more important than being so careful as to be humorless. Just my humble opinion, Dr. B2
