Jim is very wise in his outlook towards fitness. You can tell that he's held a deep reverence for fitness for most of his life. He's one of that guys who will be fit and strong at any age no matter how old he gets. Longevity thrives on wisdom. Great show amazing guest💯

My younger body + earlier days of gym = hypertrophy = normal weight high reps (3 sets) But now as a old veteran High wieghts + low rep 1 to 8 reps (4 sets last drop set) = stronger bigger muscles

@6:15 Calve range: I will show you where the error lies and how you would have to duplicate this in real life. FIRST: this was with 40 young women. Not trained individuals. Any reason why INITIAL range of motion illicited more hypertrophy than Full ROM? Full range of motion INCLUDES INITIAL range of motion and more. "The FULL ROM group performed calf raise exercise with NO DEGREE of movement restrictions" Read that carefully. Freedom of movement up and down. Now let's look at INITIAL ROM. "In the INITIAL ROM group, a metallic structure was placed in the stem where the weight stack of the machine run to serve as a limiter at the top part of desired plantar flexion angle." MEANING the lifter was stopped from surpassing zero degrees of plantar flexion by using a BLOCKADE that was most likely pressed up against when contracting (ISOMETRIC CONTRACTION) at zero degrees. You would have to mimic that same ISOMETRIC STOP and contract against it, in order to duplicate the study. Most people are merely starting at full plantar flexion, going up halfway, then returning back to starting position WITHOUT CONTRACTING AGAINST a blockade for an isometric contraction. So unless you duplicate the isometric contraction that most likely happened at the top limit every rep YOU'RE BETTER OFF DOING FULL ROM.

I’m always confused when they say 1 g of protein per pound of body weight. How could that be the same for an individual who has about 40% body fat versus another individual who might have 15% body fat?

The recommendation is for fit people or based off lean body mass. If you’re obese, you wouldn’t need to eat that much. You could use goal weight or lean body mass instead.

I have to contradict Dr. Jim on the Beef Protein thing! Some may be only from cologne, and some are NOT! You need to actually look at the label of the product you're buying, as you should for all that you're buying! Make sure that it has been Third-Party Tested for content and quality! If it contains a complete protein profile in reasonable amounts of each amino acid, it is not just a collagen protein!

Ive you too see one that isn’t just beef collagen, i challenge you to list some brands? They do this for cost obviously. But as he says you shouldn’t count collagen protein towards your protein target for the day
