I always used a cardboard tube from paper towel rolls. I hot glued a square base on the bottom and glued the round spot on top. It's worked for me. Just paint the cardboard before you use it and you won't have any fuzz flying off of it. And i also use alligator clips with wood skewers and i have 2×4's with holes to put it in when I'm done painting.

great tip. ise the same,but i glued in the bottom a magnet and use a metall plate to set the pipe up and cover it with a big plastic cloathing box wich you can buy everywhere very cheap. It is very stable and don,t fall over when it needs to be moved. The platic cover i seal of with a few pieces of making tape to be secured on the plate. $50,- and it works perfect

I agree, these does give you more room to move the body around and get underneath the bottom. Thanks for sharing this Donn. Have a great weekend buddy. Terry

I do the same thing for my aircraft just different stands I’ll gauge the material needed depending on fuselage shape. These are great tips. I subscribed a while back but just recently started catching up on your videos, I can implement these tips and tweak them for my planes! Keep these paint tips coming cause they help. 👍🏼

I have seen a guy use the same method with the black pipe, and he also uses a floor flange on the bottom of it to hold the body when he puts it in his cabinet.

Great tip. This seems to work well, and much cheaper than a Tamiya paint stand. Thanks for sharing.

Great idea and very cost effective. Because I use rattle cans, I have been using a bent up coat hanger so I am able to hang parts upside down between coats. I am going to try your method for the next few paint jobs

Quick question are the metallic water based paints good to airbrush on model cars and you have very detailed and clean cars you should do a review on your builds

If you used the Tamiya stand, you'd only have ~$240 in stands to have 8 bodies in your cabinet drying... 😉

Love watching and learning from you! I've been using the same style for bodies, but how do you make that work for spoilers, hoods, bumpers and the such when you have to make sure to paint all surfaces of the part?
@ljerryd
@ljerryd Жыл бұрын
I'm gonna get some pipe nipples for sure. Have been using old larger rattle cans, but they are harder to hold. Question though, what do you mount convertible bodies on? Right now, I'm using coat hanger and not happy with that option.

Thank you again for a great tip. I have seen you use these on a lot of your videos and I was wondering if you ever incorporated a flange base on the end of the pipe nipple? It seems like this would give a much more stable base then just the pipe itself. And, as always, you know that I will be going to Home Depot to get me some of these lol Thank you for another great video.

I don’t like the flanges due to the fact it is far easier to bump the bodies with them on rather than without …..
@c.d.scalemodels9198
@c.d.scalemodels9198 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Charles, Chris here, I actually use the flange myself for the same reasons U mentioned. Now I only need 2 cure 1 kit body at a time so I don’t need 2 worry about more than one body curing at a time and/or kits being close together to cause an accident, but I think the flange is great as well……. Build on Charles!!!!!

In my experience painting on flat surfaces can create vortex conditions along surface that create orange peel.

How long does the pipe nipple have to be? Also, threaded or unthreaded pipe?

I use the threaded . 6 inches long works just fine …….

I own the videos Don does a great job explaining his method. One thing how to you tackle the inner roof where the nipple was after applying your finish coats on the outside? Brush or lots of masking tape?
@ScaleModelTechniques
@ScaleModelTechniques 2 жыл бұрын
Either airbrush it first and once it has flashed out , then paint the body or simply brush paint it after the body has flashed .
