As half Filipino this makes me uncomfortable because my maternal grandma thought like this. She was very self hating except when it came to being able to boast about being successful simply because she's Asian. She tried to instill in me that the only option of marriage material was a rich White man. She said Asian men, especially Filipino men, are terrible husbands and fathers. My mom tries to act like a White redneck and now she's trying to convince her Facebook friends that she's Hispanic even though, through a DNA test, I found my ancestry on my mom's side is purely Filipino with Chinese roots. she doesn't have not one speck of Spanish blood. But for me, I got my Spanish blood from my dad's side through my Mexican grandma because her ancestors came from Spain (they were Jewish and when they settled in Mexico they had to pretend they were Catholic or they'd face persecution)

In Japanese entertainment industry, it's been known that half-Japanese celebrities with Japanese fathers and foreign mothers tend to become more popular/successful. SAWAJIRI Erika, SHIROTA Yu, TAKAHASHI Maryjune (or even TAKAHASHI Ran who's one the most popular athletes) are some famous examples. The reason for this is the foreign mothers themselves fit Japanese beauty standards. I have a nephew and niece who are half Chinese and half German. The boy has green eyes while his sister has more aqua looking green, I tell my sister that they are nice looking but so are brown eyes, it's not more unique or pretty than brown and full Asian features are just as nice looking as European. It literally killed my grandma when my aunt married a white guy and it turned out the deadbeat just thought my grandma was loaded and would buy them a new house after getting married. I don't know who the hell came up with such degeneracy, probably from the post-colonial era where people develop a racial inferiority complex that is projected on to the next generation. I never understood the whole materialistic western phenomena of glorifying people who are quick to erase themselves. It's unsurprising that this type of behavior is common among AW because all they are doing is 'assimilating'. which the FBs push for and aspire to, even though over 100 years of this 'assimilative' strategy is exactly what has largely left us where we are still today - without very much change but more separation. Assimilation is not the answer. Rather than pursuing individual assimilation, which often involves conforming to stereotypes for upward mobility (and notice how different it is for AW and AM), it would be more beneficial for Asian communities to work together as a group (as oppose to shunning our roots as individuals and marrying for upward mobility) while integrating proudly into American society as a collective, just like for example, the African Americans.
