How I agree about "nothing like" holding a magazine of plants, garden design, etc. and being a book lover, especially the Bible, and being an artist, holding brushes, touching the paper with brushes, etc:. Nothing like it!!!!

You've just rescued another plant of mine. I'm one of those who bought a frosty fern this winter 🤦🏻♀️ I was watering every 3-4 days and still leaves would droop. So then I thought bigger pot and that allowed me a week between waterings. Woke up one morning to a chunk of plant completely dead 🥺. Then I started fish emulsion and thought I had problem solved. Nope, a week ago the tips weren't that pretty white anymore. So now that you showed yours and why was under glass I immediately put mine in the bathroom and turned on the shower to build up humidity. Then I put in tub and misted with water bottle. Fingers crossed for me to find something I can use as a cloche. Now back to rest of video 😁

Yulia, I don't live far from your area, and I have two gardenias that grow outside all winter. One is Frost Proof and the other is August Beauty. Both have been covered in snow and ice and are doing great. They are not too far from the foundation so that may be helping but definitely, it's worth trying to grow outdoors. I am probably a little closer to the Passaic River so I may be just a few degrees warmer than you.

I love your work room. I've had such an issue with gnats this past year. learned to control my watering, used BT, yellow sticky and neem oil. noticed whenever I repotted plants there would be an increase. I'm convinced the soil i purchased carries larvae. Its a waste of money to throw out the bags so thinking about dropping hypoaspis miles in them and setting aside for few weeks.

I use your method for getting rid of fungus gnats. It usually works along with consistency and patience. Whew. I had heard that one can use a mixture of 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 3 or 4 parts water to kill any fungus gnats eggs or nymphs. I have a small condo so no place to isolate new plants. Therefore I will sometimes use the hydrogen peroxide mixture for the first watering in case there is something lurking in the soil. Not sure if it really helps or just makes me feel better.

I use the peroxide watering method and it does work.

Love your plant room! Those fungus gnats sure are pesky little rascals. Next time I get them (knock wood), I will use the mosquito bits for sure.
@dishobbies38853 жыл бұрын
To control my fungus gnats, I cover the top of my soil in the pots with aquarium gravel. It makes the plants stands out more and makes it very difficult for the adults to lay eggs. I also let the soil stay somewhat dry for some of my plants and I also saturate the soil with a mixture of 3% hydrogen peroxide/water a couple of times a month on the surface of my gravel/soil in the pots. It helps but if you take your plants outside for sun then you run the risk of get more fungus gnats. Always keep house plants inside and garden plants out. I may try the mosquito bits for added help when the humid summer arrives. When I get new plants I always treat them with the hydrogen peroxide/water mix after I remove the top layer of soil. Things have gotten better but I will add the mosquito bits to my defense against those pesky bugs. I am glad that they don't bite like mosquitos. Take care.

Great tour and great info as always! ❤️. Thank you so much Yulia. Love your plant room. I have one section in my kitchen in front of my sliding door to my deck. Because I have such a small space I don’t overwinter plants inside anymore because I don’t want to run the risk of an infestation. But that’s not to say it can’t happen if I bring home a new house plant. Around the time I was forcing paper white bulbs, I noticed some tiny gnat like bugs. I’m not sure if they were fungus gnats or fruit flys. I did put out a fruit fly trap, but I am going to try your method for the fungus gnats. 😁🙏❤️

My house was also infested with gnat. I used horticultural oil spray, it worked very well. I cover most of my moisture loving plant with coco coir. The gnats can't lay eggs on. Others I do bottom watering. Don't allow the surface to get wet. Loved your plants. How you managed to keep your coleus so healthy? My plant got continously infested with mealy bug n finally died. I to stay in zone 6. Can you regrow those tulips every year in same pots.? Would love to grow them in pots. Can you tell us if it is possible to grow them every in same pot from same bulb? Thanks in advance.

Love your channel. How do you treat fungus gnats in orchids? Do you soak your orchid medium with the mosquito bits and water or do you just run it through? Can you soak spagnamum moss in mosquito bits water and put around the top of your orchids with yellow sticky traps?
