The 4-6 Panthers come to the Dome to take on the 8-2 Vikings, who are atop the NFC.
This would be the 19th and final game Reggie White ever played against the Vikings.

The thing that always amazed me about these Viking offenses from '98 to 2000 was that on any given play, it seemed like that there was always two, maybe three guys wide open about 25 yards + down field. Saying that they were prolific would be a huge understatement.

Thanks for the upload... my few memories from this game: 1. Robert Tate was converted into a defensive back (cornerback) after playing as a receiver in college. 2. Steve Beuerlien was a hot commodity at QB after throwing for 30+ TDs the previous season 3. Kyle Wong and Tallance Sawyer: two guys I totally forgot wore Vikings uniform at some point (Wong was actually pretty good as a LB) 4. Robert Griffith had a knack for dropping easy interception 5. Jimmy Hitchcock was never any good

Disagree with 5. and it was Kailee Wong.

Maybe not so good, the Vikings made Wong eligible in the 2002 expansion draft, and Houston picked him up. The Vikings opted to sign veteran LB Greg Biekert from Oakland. There were also "rumors" floating around about Wong as well.

If I'm not mistaken this was arguably one of the best seasons for the Vikings' coach Dennis Green - until the Giants upended them in the NFC title game.

They were better than what their record indicated, (11-5) they could have easily been 13-3 or maybe 14-2. Two losses to Green Bay that they should have won, and one at Indianapolis where they had secured the division title and basically had nothing to play for.

The Panthers in 2000 were actually hyped to contend in the NFC after Steve Beuerlein threw for 4000 yards the year before. They signed the oldest former pro bowlers they could find in Eugene Robinson, Chuck Smith, Natrone Means (Played only one game) and Reggie White after a year retired. They fell flat on their face, going 6-10 beginning their rebuild.

Will never forgive Robert Smith for constantly ducking contact and running out of bounds on the put-away drive of the 1998 NFC Championship game. Had he stayed in bounds, Anderson may not have even needed to attempt the kick! Terrible mental mistakes proving VERY costly

And once again, a blown potentially game winning FG. Except it wasn't Gary Anderson, it was Mitch Berger. Berger mishandled the snap at the end of the Monday Night Green Bay game, sending it into OT. (Packers won) if they win that, their record probably ends at 12-4 and home field advantage in the NFC playoffs.

Vikes were 11-2 but lost their last three to finish 11-5. This is notable because even one more win could have earned Minnesota the 1 seed and would have placed the NFC Championship game in the Metrodome instead.
