After a disappointing 3-4 start, the Vikings travel to Denver to face the defending champion Broncos, who are without many of their stars from the year before.

My favorite game of the 99 season. It was the epitome of that season. We would get off to a bad start and then spend the last 2 1/2 quarters battling back.
@TheLAGopher

And yet that Vikings did make the playoffs that season and effectively ended the 90's Cowboys dynasty by destroying "The Boyz" in a wildcard game that would be the final playoff appearance of "The Triplets" Aikman, Smith, and Erving. They would go on to a good first half against the eventual Super Bowl Champion Rams in the Divisional Round before getting blown out in the 3rd quarter. Unlike many other teams who experience a crushing playoff loss as the Vikes did in the 1998 NFCCG, Minnesota was able to get over the hangover after the first quarter of the season and not lose a whole year.

My younger brother and I were at this game. The days before, we were partying, and I was hung over. When we arrived at the Mile High stadium. I b was amazed at how many vikings fans were there. Some sports reporter, came onto the tailgate area. Put me on the Minneapolis pregame show uttering the phrase" Striking Vikings"! That was one of the best times I had in my life.

I was at this game. Sitting 15 rows from the field under John Elways name at the old Mile High stadium wearing my Cris Carter #80 jersey. After the Broncos 1st td. it got soooo loud in that place i thought my head was going to explode😂😂. I stood up and made the "shhhh" sign. Then Moss' td got called back. Vikings down 12-0. Up 13-12 at the half. 23-20 final. The day was oct.31, 1999. Memories that will last a lifetime for me.

For sure. Sadly neither team was close to what they were the year before. In fact when the schedule came out this was the most anticipated game of the season but by the time it got there FOX switched the Cowboys/Colts game into the 4:00 slot to be the main late game instead of this one.

@@cmoney_5045 Yup - the Broncos weren't expected to fall off as much as they did. FOX planned to air it nationally as they had no other games slated in the 4PM timeslot and the NFL only scheduled one other regional game on CBS at that time so that the whole country could watch it. Same that they did with Bills/Chiefs this past Sunday.

I'm here again after losing the past 2 Halloween games in embarrassing fashion and was thinking to myself "When was the last time I actually seen them win on Halloween?" and it was this game. Looking at our record on Halloweens we don't do good at all historically since I've been a fan (1992). Tonight (Halloween 2021) just sucked bad losing to the damn Cowboys backup on a late TD pass for the 2nd year in a row, Booooo.

This was a game that Jeff George could win for them, pulling it out after a horrid 1st and/or second quarter. I'll always wonder what would have happened had they kept Jeff George and drafted Javon Kearse instead of Culpepper in 99. George may have lacked leadership skills, but that is precisely why he battled back in games like this because he wasn't emotional and didn't get down on himself. Just kept slinging it
@bifftannen1598
@bifftannen1598 Жыл бұрын
That's exactly what I was thinking back then. In '98, they got the biggest jolt a team has probably ever seen from Moss & look where they almost got. It was quite obvious they needed a big jolt on the pass rush/defense because that offense is most likely going to be playing with leads, but of course Denny had to disappoint. Just think of putting Kearse next to Randle, Ball & Williams. It's typical Vikings that the obvious guy (Kearse) they didn't take ended up in the Super Bowl his rookie year. It should've been with the Vikes. And all Culpepper did was ride the bench all year, not helping anything

Broncos defense on the 3rd and 37 was hideous. You should never allow an offense to convert that. But it was still a great run when the Vikings were probably just trying to get some room for the punter. And the offensive P.I. on Randy Moss was terrible. That should've been a no call. Also I wouldn't have minded seeing replays on the Denver safety and Minnesota's pick 6.
