This series had serious political and social undertones all throughout with some positive and valuable messages with puns and hidden sarcasm. But people hardly delve beyond the humour, sadly. For another example- how shameful for India and Pakistan that two neighbours(Ranjeet and Ali were from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh respectively) were mocking us for constantly fighting. It has a serious and positive undertone, a lesson for both nations indeed. Such dramas and soaps are extinct these days when we need them the most now. Rip the legendary Barry Evans(Mr. Brown) and those magnificent actors who are no more amongst us today. Wishing those that are alive good health and happiness. An Indian. 🙏

Today people would complain about it beeing racist or it would actually be racist. Clever humor that can mock other cultures or nations without insulting them or trying to show that anyone is superior is very rare today.

It's important not to bring this into today's context. Yes, there are quite a few things which appear inappropriate as stereotypes, mildly offensive generalizations, and the like. But, in it's day, these were simply not on the radar as today. Keep it to it's context, where is was a rare opportunity of immigrants actually being on British Television in the 70's at all!
