I'm Norwegian and I noticed that we have very similar insult words, for example "ekel", which in Norwegian is "ekkel" (disgusting) and "drecksack" which is very similar to the Norwegian equivalent "drittsekk", which also means "dirt bag". I'm a linguist nerd and very interested in language similarities, particulary similarities between Germanic languages, as I speak one myself as my mother tongue and I also tend to learn Germanic languages faster than non-Germanic languages.

Just to explain you guys the insult of being called a HONK: in German it means: Hauptschüler Ohne Nennenswerte Kenntnisse. It translates to a stupid students from a low rated type of school who has no actual talents or knowledge. It’s quite discriminating to those people who actually need to go to this kind of school, because they are naturally not very clever. Hope I could help you a bit 🙈🤗
@olafkessler88863 жыл бұрын

@emanuelkarl64998 жыл бұрын
You translate the insults literally so they don't make sence anymore. For example "pisser" refers to little kids who pie their pants. "Sackgesicht" refers to makle testicles so that would be something like ball-face. In spanist you have the expression "cara de picha" wich means "Pimmelgesicht" which is somewhat similar.

P.S. I thought it was hilarious.
@phylicialehmann50258 жыл бұрын

@TomCox848 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say generally. You couldn't just take *any* inanimate object and make it an insult. People would be more confused than offended and would a) not really take it as an insult and miss the intention b) think you're stupid. "Cucumber" is "Gurke" in German. I don't know what it is with cucumbers in German, but they're used in several derogatory ways. A shitty car or bike for example is also called a "Gurke". Or if you're walking or driving around aimlessly, for example when you're lost or just bored, we call it "rumgurken" (that'd be something like "cucumbering around"). The way Vettel used the "Gurke" it means something like "fool", "goof", "boob". It's a very mild way to call someone a (clumsy) idiot without using these words. Another word with practically the same meaning would be "Pflaume", which is "plum/prune" in English. There are also some other fruits and vegetables that are used and which are very mild insults. "Du alte Tomate" ("You old tomato") or "du Lauch" ("You leek") for example. But it doesn't work with everything. Calling someone a strawberry, melon, pineapple or cherry, wouldn't work at all. My bet is, that there is no real backstory to why we use these words (cucumber/plum etc.). The main reason is probably just the sound of it, onomatopeia. If you emphasize and pronounce it right, it already sounds derogatory, as if saying "idiot", but without saying it :P

+Ronnie Dio Nicht wirklich gut.. * Hallo! Also korrigiere bitte niemanden so als ob mehrere Ausrufezeichen ok wären. +Cho0Claymore Btw, sounds really good, hope you have fun while learning!
