It’s a fascinating developmental juxtaposition to see Ellie lose the last of her innocence, her childhood at the same time that Joel symbolically gets his child back as he calls her “baby girl.” And they brilliantly show the watch he got from Sarah as he says it. He’s got his/a daughter again, but like the watch she’s broken now. I’m just in awe of this magnificent show. Every detail in every moment is so thoughtful, detailed and intentional. Incredible

As a massive lover of the games and having played both games multiple times, it's the scene where Ellie kills David that always gets me the most, even more than Sarah's death scene. Just seeing how terrified Ellie is WRECKS me every single time, you think Joel is going to come in and save her, but nope she saves herself in the most brutal/violent way and my heart breaks for the poor girl every single time. Even though she has killed/wounded people before, this feels like the moment where Ellie's innocence is truly shattered and she will never be the same again. When I watched that scene tonight I could not hold back the tears. That scene is pure terror, Bella Ramsey is just phenomenal

@@chrislambert9903agree - in the game, Joel saves The Last of [her humanity] in that moment where she’s finally gone feral and is killing like an infected. I also like the game’s visual of him pulling her out of this burning place; like their bond rescues each of them from their own personal hells. and while i like the show’s David more overall, i think the game allowing him enough time to start to lose his mind to cordyceps makes him more monstrous during his confrontation with Ellie. show David still has his full faculties and sense of self-preservation. i don’t believe he’d try to force himself on Ellie while the lodge burns down around them.

I'm not a TLOU game player, after episode 6, it made her seem a bit helpless and S O L. Episode 7, she has had a bit of training and it shows when she finds something essential to help take care of Joel. There are a good number of times where Ellie thinks on her feet and it totally pays off. Goes back to her training and what she's learned along the way. I've seen a few too many movies/shows that deal with "harsh winters" and the cannibal radar went off. Then, Ellie focuses on something, I actually thought there would be more of the remains visible but the single ear was even better. "It's okay, baby girl." Something he hasn't said in over 20 years. And he said it with complete authenticity. It broke me too I'm actually not ready for next Sunday. Because once I see the credits, it'll be a long waiting game until the next season. See you then. Take care, Angela!!

Both in the game and in this episode it was an important arc that Ellie overcame and wasn't damsel'd. It was a close call for her, but Joel rescuing her would be too much of a trope. She's lost the last of her childhood innocence though. Trauma.

I heard a statistic a while back that floored me, and I just checked it again to be sure. According to RAINN, over half of women and one in three men worldwide will experience "sexual violence involving physical contact" at least once in their lifetime. One in four women have experienced a "completed or attempted" (their words) rape. I can't even imagine carrying that with you. We can only hope that Ellie's rage against David in that scene helps her get through that trauma.

@@oppooopoookjgffghjookjjj4531 I think a lot of men in this world understand, but understanding and doing something about it are two different things, and I can certainly see how women might not feel seen or treated seriously in this area. One would think that, after centuries of enduring this sort of thing, society would have learned a thing or two about sexual abuse, but it seems like we really haven't. You could conclude from this that not enough people in power (men in particular) are sufficiently committed to stemming the tide of rape and sexual abuse, and that could well be a part of it, but I suspect the problem is deeper than that. And, of course, coming back to the world of this show, it's not a stretch to imagine that things would get much worse in an environment in which societal norms have all but vanished. So I'm glad we don't live in the apocalyptic world of TLOU, but even in today's society, we ought to be able to do much better.

I will post NO spoilers! So, I went into a deep dive after this episode, because I thought that I recognized Hannah (the girl that David slapped) and it turns out she played the younger version of Rachel in Pet Sematary, and she is one to watch also. Of course we have Troy Baker as Davids right hand 'James' Who caught a meat cleaver with his jugular, But Slade already told you about him, so I wont do that. But you said that Ellie hadn't had someone to show her love and tenderness and care, I believe this to be true. She has never had this, and that is why she refused to leave Tess (we are not fucking leaving her), because Tess already spoke to her with a kind of caring tone, and congratulated her for surviving the mall (you got some balls on you sister) And Ellie believed that her blood was medicine and that in a way she could heal her (like she did with Sam) Oh Sam :,( That is also why she cried when Joel apologized to her for having to shoot Bryan. because she has never had someone to show "emotions" towards her, so she breaks. this is what I gathered at least. You can agree or disagree with me.

After episode 1 of The Last of Us, I watched probably a dozen different reaction videos to it. I guess I wanted to keep torturing myself on how powerfully emotional the opening is (and yeah, I cried almost every time). But out of ALL of the reaction videos, the only channel I've kept returning to is yours. I love how deeply you feel the scenes (and are able to convey it to your viewers), and I love how deeply you think about the characters and their situation. Thanks for giving us a way to stretch out the enjoyment of this series

I am a stoic old guy, but I lost it when Joel called Ellie "Baby Girl". Did you notice he was holding her in a way that the watch was visible. There are so many levels of excellence in the way this show is filmed. I'm almost panicked there is only one episode left in this season.

In the game it was the hardest scene to handle this. In the serie... OMG so hard to process all of this again ! "Babygirl" got me. I don't know how I will survive next episode, knowing what will happen. Actors are so good !

When she walks out that door she's not the same Ellie. The last of her female innocence has been stripped away by the horror she's had to face and overcome. The 'It's ok baby girl, I've got you' just broke me, and the watch, right there. Still on Joel's wrist. I just can't shake the look on Ellie's face as Joel puts his jacket on her and they turn to walk away. She has been so traumatized, I hope Joel's presence will help get her back from the brink. Awesome episode.

Having played the game a few times, it's so great to see someone experience this story fresh, especially this part of the story. Reminds me how it was the first time I experienced it - the twists and turns and Ellie coming into her own and saving herself while also losing any remnant of childhood she had left. It's so heartbreaking. And "baby girl" always gets me choked up no matter how many times I hear it.

I don't know how they managed to make David feel even more disgusting and despicable given they've changed very little compared to his game version but they found a way. Bella again is just eating the screen with how good she is. That "I got you baby girl" got me as well. The significance for Joel to say that is massive.

When Joel called her Baby girl, That's the first time in a long time that I broke down because you know for Joel... He's had his guard the whole show due to the loss of his child, but you could feel and see his walls coming down slowly and slowly as he grew a father and daughter love again for Elle... This episode or that moment of "It's okay Baby girl" you could feel how safe and accepted as family she became but equally as important you could feel his fatherly bond come back in full swing. The 20 years of suffering carrying that loss for a child was made whole again and I fucking love it 😭😭😭

They were not headed back to Jackson. The Fireflies moved to St Mary's Hospital in Salt Lake City, and that is where they were planning to go next. Since there is only one episode (short too, like 45 minutes) this season, that's the likely destination. Then we have to wait for the even darker season 2!

I know there's no one 'right' way to react to media but I really appreciate that you understood how even though we wanted David to die a terrible, horrible death, the trauma of delivering that death was so hard on Ellie that you were crying for her from the very beginning of her kill. And the way you went from tears to sobs when Joel gave her exactly what she needed with that hug and the 'baby girl'; I felt that, it made the scene affect me even more. This is the kind of thing I watch reaction vids for!

In the game, we go straight from Joel falling off the horse to you playing as Ellie out hunting, without knowing what happened to Joel until after the initial David encounter, as the last episode was DLC that came out after the game. This episode had a lot of "oooh, they're doing the thing!" in it, and I love that it had the same impact for someone that hasn't played the game!

I don't know why I am putting myself through the rewatch of the last, most pivotal scene but I'm watching reactors and the range of emotions is pretty wide, but yours is the one I identified with the most. A lot of people reacted with satisfaction or by rejoicing, but I just can't watch that without aching for her. Even though she is now "safe" and an evil man is dead so is her innocence and it's clear in the way she doesn't stop that it is a level of primal fear and desperation to make sure he won't hurt her anymore JUST how much she lost in that barn and in that moment where she had to choose between two horrors that no child should have to face.
