Honestly I'm not surprised. It seems like 80 Year olds are making some of the biggest movies today. Martin Scorsese made The Irishman and Killers of the Flower Moon. James Cameron made Avatar The Way of Water Ridley Scott made Napoleon I'm not sure if it's because these Old directors are one of the few people actually daring to make "Big" movies or if it's because these are one of the only few directors that can actually demand big budgets from Studios for their Big moveis.

I think part of it is he's not done with that universe yet (and it took 9 years to get this made, studio meddling and a lawsuit post Fury Road about the royalties he was owed by WB). The other part: no director out there is making films like this anymore. The action movie is sidelined by sequels/prequels/ip's and not much original risk taking features. I know Furiosa is a prequel, but it's in the hands of one of the greatest action directors alive today. I know the CG in the film looks terrible at points( I work in vfx on set, it is sad to see how rush some of the scenes in furiosa look, I put that on WB and not Miller). The rest of the movie has the great real, sharp toothed, adrenaline filled action you would expect from Miller. It didn't try to be Fury Road, it went for world building with a splash of rage.

@@VFX_My_Life You basically debunked your 2nd point except for this movie being in the hands of George Miller.
@VFX_My_Life5 ай бұрын
@@jp3813 Can you explain what you mean a bit more in detail? I was getting at Miller is trying to get the finish line of 1 more max movie and got this prequel made because he's George Miller, a living legend of a director. In most other cases prequels/sequels do not hold up, let alone hold a candle to their previous film. Though now in hindsight for him, this movie likely won't bring in the money necessary to make another mad max film (unless he pulls a Hitchcock and funds it himself). I was trying to get at the action can very much so succeed if directors put their foot down on the gas and went for a suspenseful story buried in adrenaline but Holywood is stuck in this state of sequel/prequel known IP only mode and it has to break so filmmakers can start creating cinema people want to watch.
@jp38135 ай бұрын
@@VFX_My_Life You said that directors don't make films like this anymore b/c the genre is stuck in the sequels/prequels/IP mindset, except this movie is part of that mindset. I felt it was a bit drawn out at some parts. Wasn't nearly as good as Fury road or Road Warrior, but still good. 6/5/10 (maybe 7). Just SUPER heavy on the story and Lore aspect. This movie was mostly about world building and history, than pursuits/action.

While you are entitled to your opinion, Im also entitled to say that your opinion is 💩. That movie was BOSS, DOPE, and HISTORIC as the war boys say. A bit bleaker than Fury Road but think everyone will appreciate more and more as time goes.

@@amberlopez7477 You are making a huge mistake based off miserable people who would be critical of heaven if they actually got there. I heard these same criticisms but they are so far out in left field it makes me question the motives. The movie was freaking awesome and the best movie ar theater in my recent memory. It had everything, but was just more bleak than Fury road, but it sets up the triumph of Furiosa in that movie. Dementus was freaking awesome! You will regret not going and it is a shame for such a BA movie that for some reason people are followers and dont want to go see it just cause critics.

Couldn’t agree more. This movie was SPECTACULAR! I was worried it wouldn’t hold up to Fury Road but it’s the perfect companion piece. It’s a very different beast to Fury Road but it’s all cut from the same cloth and what a ride this movie is. 9 out of 10 from me.

True story, I got back from seeing this today and it was so good that I forgot to recline my theater seat the whole time. I usually don’t forget that. Guess I had to be in the upright position for this experience. By the end of it, my legs were sweaty and my movie ticket was wet. 😅 Hella good film.🔥🔥🔥 You know how people try to make comparisons between who portrayed a character better (like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo franchise)? Charlize Theron and Anya Taylor-Joy (and even Alyla Browne) have truly portrayed this character deeply in sync. They are truly masterful at it. And the whole crew and studio who helped make this all happen. Applause for y’all.

The previous films always felt like people were crazy...well..because. In this movie, Dimenta is a bit of a breath of fresh air, cause you can see what his goals are. And relatively speaking, he seems like the least crazy crazy guy in the Mad Max world. That having been said, the other thing that sets this movie apart, is that while it has all of the action set pieces, this one has an actual story with character development. I might have to sit with it a few days to make sure I feel this way..but I'm almost sure that Furiosa is actually the best Mad Max film.
