One of my favorite points of comparison I've seen about Furiosa to Fury Road is that they are a double album. Fury Road is punchy and to the point while Furiosa is messier, more experimental, and more vulnerable because of that. Both sides enrich each other and stand out in their own way. These movies are miracles.

That's why I'm excited to be able to watch them in a row at home eventually. Because with this movie now, Fury Road feels like the pay off, just one 2 hour long third act to Furiosa.

Hey, Maggie. Quick note. I've binged at least half of all your YT clips. What's really satisfying is your log off speech. You say the same thing, but despite the binges, it never gets old. You remind us we can subscribe if want, you invite us to leave comments or watch videos but leave no pressure or judgment if we don't. You plug in your website and your commission, but it's not tacky. You're quick and to the point and you leave time to shout out your patrons who choose to support you. I know you've refined it to be as quick and Blunt as it can be but as a fan I appreciate the phrasings you use because it's not pompous or entitled and it allows me to be eager to continue to enjoy your voice and your videos like a safe space. I hope that all makes sense, I usually get tired of people who just tack on words at the end, but when you do it , it feels inviting and earned. Thanks! Keep doing what you've been doing.

I love how positive, thoughtful and sweet the community we have been able to make here together is. Despite how most people here are kinda jaded and increiblly cynical about film, (which is an art we all actually love deeply) we never let that be directed at people undeserving. Like I know it seems a minor thing, but for some reason, comments like this (that are, no offence, not really related to the topic at hand) that show real openness, and as you said, the feeling of being in a safe space, warm my heart.

@@noahheninger I will agree that the CGI is more intrusive than Fury road's. But this movie looked freaking amazing from beginning to end. As an Australian I appreciated how much more explicitly Aussie this was than Fury Road. Obviously being completely filmed in Australia helps, the vastness of Australia's outback is so much more tangible in here and Mad Max 2 than it is in Fury Road (for me at least). I still prefer Fury Road overall as that film feels like a miracle of action filmmaking but this gave me more of what I love about the Mad Max world despite not having Max in it. I liked that the slower pace allowed for more of those purely Australian interactions between characters and it's great that a blockbuster with this sort of tone and confidence in its own world can still be made on this scale. It's a shame it's not doing well at the boxoffice.

Funny thing, I felt that the character was a bit of remote to really care about the character. I think the strength of that character is that it is actually glue or a passage for the story to build the perfect story arc for Furiosa. I guess it actually shows great writing in the big picture.

Praetorian Jack puts in perspective that Max wasn't the only road warrior who survived the apocalypse. Different person with different drive yet similar "warrior spirit" as Max. I liked his character, and adds why Furiosa connects with Max, since he probably reminded her of Jack.

Good points! Especially the similarity between Furiosa and Conan's journeys. My problem is, as with many current films, the filmmakers love (coddle?) the character too much. And the story suffers as a result. The character has no real arc. She's fabulous vengeance... and that's not a story. The more engaging version is she's broken by Joe, rises in the ranks, doing crime and treachery, earning the vaunted title of Imperator. THEN she can redeem herself, rising like a phoenix in defiance of Joe.There's a ten year gap, so maybe that's in the 2nd prequel.

Best movie of 2024 by far (so far at least). I experienced several moments of euphoria from the visual quality of the film combined with long sequences of action that were (pleasantly) devoid of dialogue. Hemsworth's monologue near the end of the movie sent major shivers down my spine as we're given a whole new level of insight into his character. I agree with the comparison to the recent Dune movies, which felt "very safe" compared to this which felt like the creators took major risks that more than paid off and the same can be said of Fury Road.

The action was wild and creative. The characters vivid and memorable. Yes I think film surpasses Dune and it's everything I want from a big epic adventure movie. This Is what I wish star wars and rings of power and all of these heros journey type stories to be like. I wish we could a modern Conan movie like these modern mad max movies. The primitive energy imbued with classical Mythological storytelling. My favorite scene after the mother's daring raid to rescue her daughter, was the scene where the boss of gastown recreated one of my favorite paintings. It felt like this movie was made for someone with my sensibilities.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for Furiosa. It is way too long . it's too reliant to CGI . And Chris Hemsworth came close to completely capsizing the movie. He is easily the weakest main character in any of the Mad Max movies . As one would expect he is completely too dimensional at best . And instantly kills the vibe of any scene that has the misfortune to feature him. But if his character enthralled you then my advice is to stay away from the road Warrior movie, far away the strongest entry in the franchise, and infinitely infinitely more intense than any of the other movies . There's nothing grimy about Furiosa . The road warrior is pure grime .

I watched dune 1&2 and put me to sleep. Just didn't like the story and too many characters. Some nonsense about spice trade and action scenes weren't half as good as this. No idea why it's such a huge box office hit while nobody showed up for this.

@@jonfreeman9682there emerged a cult following around Denis Villeneuve. WB is grooming its next Nolan, it seems based on marketing. Besides, there is Chalamet and Zendaya (racially dubious, hence covers basically everyone), two heartthrobs that cover basically (a) whole generation(s). Also, incomplete CGI turned people off. And everyone assumed, most people are unfamiliar with George Miller, that Furiosa is a statement movie about female hero.

Unfortunately the theater I saw this in had gimped audio which detracted noticeably from the impact of the film. I want to see this again in IMAX to give it a proper review.

Gonna reply this time BEFORE your review. Movie got initial hype, but Luke warm to chilled response from most people. That never dissuades me….Anna Taylor Joy….can be an enigmatic actress…but here she showed the character’s flaws, emotions, weaknesses….she was strong. The movie dragged in parts, but kept me engaged….tbh….i thought this was one of…if not the best movies in this saga/series!

You are absolutely refreshing. Just a very enjoyable person. Always look forward to reading your KZbin post.

I remember not liking Fury Road at all (need to rewatch it). I remember it being basically one giant action scene. But I absolutely loved Furiosa. I felt like it had actual character development and arcs, actual dialogue, and an actual story.

George Miller has directed nearly all of Australia’s biggest movies, Luke Happy Feet, Babe and of course Mad Max. He has done wonders for our film industry. It does warm my heart that people overseas get exposed to our accent and culture through Mad Max and Bluey 😂

Loved every bit of this movie and I wish it was marketed better. The first trailers looked like a bad cgi fest. It wasn’t. There is a level of artistry on display that is rarely matched these days and makes the grotesque beautiful. It earns its R rating. I watched Fury Road right after and Furiosa does make that film even richer. Hopefully this movie will also find its audience.

It's interesting how you felt it is cartoonish bc I think if I remember right Geroge Miller initially wanted to make this movie as an anime, so it's very cool to me that maybe he thought of a spesific style initially bc of the medium he was going to work in and then to translate that to live action filmmaking

FURIOSA is a masterpiece, and FURIOSA combined with FURY ROAD is a masterpiece. The theme is the same as in all Mad Max movies: How do we respond when the world is falling to pieces around us? Some become warlords/dictators like Immortan Joe. Some become fake-populist warlords/dictaors like Dementus who promises water and food (without delivering on his promise) to people he wants to follow him. Some follow an ideal that they ought not to follow: the war boys, who believe that it is sweet and fitting to die for one's dictator. Both Mad Max (in the early movies and in FURY ROAD) and Furiosa respond by fighting against evil (FURIOSA) and by becoming heroes who help other people (FURIOSA and FURY ROAD). FURIOSA delves deep into how a falling-to-pieces world can hurt a child. She could easily become a bitter person without hope, but despite all that happens to her, she still has hope. (The peach pit is a symbol of that hope.) FURIOSA is the best of all the Mad Max movies because it gives us that background of Furiosa as a child.
