Remember a quick and easy job is one broken bolt away from it being a 3 day job. Anyway, us Americans call those shocks also and not dampeners. The trick with broken and stuck studs is to give it a very hard whack with a hammer. If that does not motivate it to come out then you take a cutter and carefully cut it so that it is just above the hole. Then take a large punch and hammer and give it a whack and it should pop out. I don't know much about how Euro cars do it but on cars like the Vicky, the studs have splines on them so that as it is being pulled into the stud hole, the splines are digging into the hole so that it cannot come loose . The proper way to replace the stud is to remove the axle from the diff (according to Ford). However you did it basically the same way most of us do it. You did not need to loosen the backing plate though. A trick to make it easier is if you chock/block the front tires (so the car don't move) and then jack the rear of the car up so both rear wheels are off the ground. Make sure the parking brake is off. now you can turn both wheels by hand and don't need the breaker bar to turn the axle, you can turn it by hand and plop the stud in. Now on some years you could have removed the ABS sensor and installed the stud using the sensor hole (that is how we did it on a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis).

Re:rear shocks. Get some 32mm blind rubber grommets, measure under the rear seat exactly above the shock or punch a bradawl through from below. Using a hole saw cut a 32mm hole, treat the edges, and use a long reach socket on the top mount. Fill hole with the blind grommet. As it’s a body on frame you can get away with that but remember to smear some sealant around the edges of the grommet before fitting.

Agreed. That is the weld between outer sill and the dog leg of the quarter panel. It needs attention right soon. I came into the comments to say exactly this. The problem with heating and hammering is you start to rivet the bolt in the hole.

Hub flange should be heated quickly to slightly expand metal while keeping stud relatively ambient.

The real name is damper because it dampens the rate of the spring they don’t absorb any shock, that’s the job of the spring Also, the stud will probably come out if you hit it properly and heating the stud will expand it making it harder to remove
