I would like to let you know how much I respect your preparation in these tutorials. It is clear you put these together in a well planned way, There is no wasted time, no wasted commentary. Direct and highly illustrative. Seriously, your work is some of the best instruction I have ever seen. This from a CAD user of 30 plus years, with training in PTC and Siemens products. I had made the surface body with a revolve like you did but I used a horizontal line and an arc instead of a spline because I wanted to make sure that the center area of the recess was totally flat. As a benefit it made it easier to adjust the radius of the flat center area vs the radius of the arc tangent to the elliptical body, however that made the surface body have two faces which then couldn't both be selected as the start point for the extrude cut. So instead I went split body using the recess profile and then replace face of the recess body to the surface body and combine to finish.

You would need to go to preferences -> general -> design and check on "auto project edges on reference".

perhaps one day you can do a video showing how to project a face from a curved surface onto a flat plane AND have the proportions of the curvature preserved. Think of it like this: You have a curved object, say a side of a boat hull, and you want to project a section of that curved hull onto a flat piece of material and then cut it out. What you want to have as a result is a piece you can then attach to a second boat hull and have it fit the curved area correctly. I cannot find anything on this :(

I have been exploring the use of sheet metal functions to flatten curved objects. I did have some half-baked video ideas on doing this. Nothing concrete at the moment. Still looking for a good example. Thank you for the suggestion.

@@DerekSpeareDSD 3DExperience CATIA has a flatten function in the sheet metal design and generative Surface develop apps. No clue how to do it in Fusion though.

I've been trying to replicate this object carefully using method 1 & 2, but when it comes to the point where the extrude needs to cut the main body from the dipped surface, I keep getting this error : "There was a problem combining geometry together. If attempting a Join/Cut/Intersect, try to ensure that the bodies have a clear overlap (problems can occur where faces and edges are nearly coincident" It doesnt matter what shape I use on the bottom plane to do this (I tried simple ones as well). Any idea?

Same here. -------------------------------- (Potential solution) Well I dont know if it will work for you but in loft operation you can see an empty box called "Closed" try to check it. It fixed it for me. I was going mad for a while.
