Thanks, Chuck. I'm really new to Fusion 360 and these things help a lot. The main thing I find regarding push/pull vs extrude is, extrude ignores connected geometries. Push/pull, on the other hand, will try to keep things connects so, for example, if you had a face with an adjacent face at a 45 degree angle, doing push or pull will maintain that corner angle. It works with fillets and other features too. Extrude doesn't care and just plows right through stuff. Also, I think the measure tool would have given you the circle radius/diameter if you wanted to be precise, and when I want a circle center point for a circle where there is none, I will use the 3 point circle tool to make a matching one on top of the old one.

Thanks Mitch! Through feel, trial and error and probably some magic I've come to learn where one works and the other doesn't. Also I've noticed that Fusion will sometimes switch it on me if I've chosen one that doesn't work. Problem with the measure tool where there are facets like that isn't that it won't measure, but that when there's a odd (or is it even?) number of faces sometimes you don't have any directly opposite each other...if that makes sense. But good idea, 3 point circle probably would have been the best bet there if I wanted precision. But I probably would have manually removed the facets first if I really wanted it precise. Fortunately for me, nothing in my life requires that level of precision. lol

Ah yeah, I see. It's a polygon, I guess, and no a circle. Yeah totally makes sense regarding odd face count.

Nicely done video. Just the right pace and clear steps. It would be very nice if you'd redo the video using the current version which looks quite a bit different. Even with the version differences, you make the basic steps nice and clear.

Thanks. The problem with redoing it is that some of the tools I was using are either missing, or have been moved to the paid version. That was a while back though, I'll have to look again and see what it's like now. One of issues I've run into lately is it's often times quicker just to design my own from the ground up than it is to modify an existing STL.

Great video as always hey you should do a beginner's guide series for fusion
@3rdpig5 жыл бұрын
I did several videos at a beginners level. Unfortunately, they got very few views. And AutoDesk just changed Fusion's interface enough to render them mostly useless...and make me feel like a beginner again too. As soon as I learn the new interface I'll think about putting together a few new beginner videos. Thanks for watching!

Don't feel bad, it's not you. The design team for Fusion completely changed the interface and now some of the old tools are gone and some have been moved into the pay version. Check out the link below and see if it doesn't give you the answer you need. knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-Convert-a-Mesh-to-a-BRep-in-Fusion-360.html

@3rdpig5 жыл бұрын
Autodesk changed the user interface in Fusion 360 a few weeks ago. Patch and Mesh mode are no longer in the same locations, and some things are either gone completely or I just haven't found them yet, like Merge. You can still change back to the old UI in the menus, but that's going away soon too. Almost all the old tutorials on Fusion 360 are of no value anymore.

I'm giving you a thumbs down, Like me there are several out there who need to see how you reduce the mesh. Would have been a lot better had you shown those steps.

It wouldn't have mattered. That video is over a year old and most of those features are now missing or changed in the new version of Fusion. Had you asked me nice, I'd have made a new video showing the new way to do it.

@@3rdpig I am trying to follow this video with the newer version. I would very much appreciate an updated tutorial. The old interface look much more intuitive then the new one :( Thanks for all your work!
