I had the 5 Channel version of that as my first radio. Dad picked it up at a Ham Fest in the early 90's. Dave I know the feeling of cracking something open for a "simple" fix then fumbling trying to get all the pieces back together. Thanks for sharing! Jimmy

Futaba Gold, some memories there. When I started flying in the early 90s there were still a lot of them around. My instructor had one, and my Dad and I learned to fly on a JR Max 5. Was around 1992. I sure was jealous of the guys who had computer radios in those days. Airtronics (Sanwa in Australia) released a radio called the Infinity around that time. It was so futuristic, but super expensive. Love these radio videos.

Hope to see you fly a vintage airplane with a vintage engine and radio system.

Well I have no intentions or aspirations of flying again anytime soon.

I put 3s lipos in all of mine.. I use voltage regulators to bring them down to 9.6v they last forever between charges.. also.. you can convert them to 2.4ghz easily.. that yellow board in the center back is the entire RF section.. you just bypass the 72MHz part and wire in the 2.4ghz module.. it's easy.. and a lot safer than flying 72mhz these days.. and way way cheaper than a narrow band conversion.. just sayin.. you can bodge in about any TX module.. i've used futaba modules and frsky.. the old corona.. cheapo generic.. etc.. once you learn where to make the connections.. any will mod in easily.. i've had these since they were new in the 80's.. great radios.. great precision for the times.. it's a great old school radio.. i like my 9cap and 9z radios too.. these are still decent radios..

Well I will NOT be using LiPO batteries for anything. If I get replacements for this TX it will be NiMH. While I appreciate your opinion about 72MHz, I really don’t care for 2.4GHz and will never use them again. When I fly I will use what I desire and not what ‘everyone’ else uses.

and.. BTW.. you don't need to take off the end panels.. just pull the screws on the bottom and remove the back.. it snaps in at the bottom with the little domed denents.. secured with the screws..

Actually the one side panel does need to come off to facilitate battery removal. I just verified that. Thank you for the tip!

@@dmrcflyr2yeah.. Come to think of it you are correct.. Its been a while since I've been in one with an original pack. It's the 1st thing I change so it becomes a non issue with a physically smaller pack.. Enjoy..

@@texastyrannyresponseteam794 It never occurred to me to put a smaller, physical size, pack into this. Maybe because it would have to have the cells aligned the same way to fit inside. I will investigate that option.

@@dmrcflyr2well.. The pack that's init is a 9x3 1.2v regular AA size pack with 8 cells and a dummy cell to make 9.6v.. I think it's 700mah stock.. If i recall mine are around 2000mah 3 cell lipo.. The long skinny ones.. But.. U said you aren't into lipos so a nimh pack will be the same size as the stock pack... Tho you can choose a larger than stock mah capacity.. Don't really know of a different chemistry pack that would fit in the compartment any better... I went with lipos because I had them on hand.. I have modified Compartments in other TX like my 9cap to fit fatter lipos... I have 18650 li-lion in some of my newer stuff.. I don't fly these much so the lipos get charged maybe twice A year. Been in them for probably 6 or 7 years now.. I probably get 30 flights per charge easy... And that's not even close to drained.. Works for me.. Thanks and I'll be watching to see how things work out. Enjoy

Nice... Glad to see the inside of that thing. Honestly i had no idea the age of that radio so I figured it to be much older and have a soldered battery. So what is the year of it ... Mid to late 80's? 90s?

Mentioned in the first video, I know this was made in the 1980’s. I am uncertain of the year they were released or for how long. I saw many of these when I began in the hobby in 1988. My first radio system was a Futaba Attack 4. I am not certain why I never owned of these back then.
