This boat wasn't selling on Facebook Marketplace and was headed for the scrap yard! Lucky for me I bought it right in time. This isn't just any boat, this was the first powered boat that I owned. I ended up buying it back for $600, even though it's only worth maybe $400 in scrap metal. I decided to take my wife and friends on the first ride since I've owned it again! Hopefully we don't sink it, because there are visible holes all through it.

Wish the older generations would invest in younger generations, like selling a scrap boat for scrap prices to help a kid out, rather than hustle him.

@@robertlawler1387 if the seller considers it scrap, he should be able to part for it for scrap price. That would have been the decent thing to do. Instead he hustled someone. I remember hearing about times when Americans wanted to help the next generation, now it's all greed.

I agree. I saw a kid about 12 years old that collects scrap for money and when I saw him passing, I stopped him and got some scrap wire and some copper I had been saving back to help him out. More adults need to be supportive of kids doing things that aren't harmful to anyone.

I found the easiest way to search for leaks in a jon boat is to put it on a trailer and fill the boat up with water. Easier to find the wholes on the outside than inside sometimes.

@@fvsoutherngirl Wonderful video. Luke, I remember fishing with my Dad in the 70s. rented 14&16’ jons and v hulls. Fishing northern Il, Chicagoland, Wisconsin, upper peninsula Michigan, bull schoals Ark. Lots of good fishing memories with my Dad. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a can of pop for lunch. Beautiful northern Wisconsin sunsets with my Dad. 9:30/10pm still light enough to make it back to the bank. I found some reciepts after my Dad had passed away- $12.50 a day rental, including 2 cushions, oars, and anchor ( coffee can with cement). I remember lots of Monarks and 60s Searays. ....now I’m planning on buying an old Monark to use and remember all the good times out fishing. Around 2005, I put my Dad on huge bluegills, 8 1/2” and 12” perch. He caught the largest perch, 12 1/2”. God bless you, Luke. You got me through some rough times working as a carpenter. Your work ethic really encouraged me this summer. Some day I hope to meet you. Jim

I just rescued a 50 year old 14' Sears flat bottom Jon boat from the woods, fought with DWR for a couple months to get it registered, managed to score a pristine 2hp Honda outboard... All in time for the winter haha! I'm looking forward to some great adventures with it.

Great memory for me. My dad bought a sears best, like that back in the 1970’s. He let me put the trailer together and wire the lights. Grandpa has an old 7.5 Evenrude, still have that motor. Use heavy nails to make shear pins going down the creek, setting bank poles and lines, camping. Rope pull broke, dad took to a boat shop, they had it almost all summer. Dad finally raised cane, they replace all kinds of stuff on motor. Dad showed the receipt to fix rope, heck the motor ran fine. So all new parts for cost of new pull start rope.❤

Luke you cherish the things that really matter in life. My friend and I had a similar boat in middle school and we had to rebuild a free engine from 1968 with the help of my Dad just to have a running boat. The engine barely pushed the boat at all. One day we left my pier heading towards my friends pier with my bike onboard. The wind coming into bear creek was so strong that day we reached a point where we were no longer moving forward. We had to go back and remove the bike to lighten our load just so we could then move faster then the drag from the wind! Good times.
