Everybody keeps telling me how I need to overclock my 8350. But I can’t find any games that don’t run great on it. It helps that I’m happy with 1080p and anything above 30fps. I suppose 30 years of console gaming has lowered my expectations. But I’d rather be completely engrossed in an amazing world than to be obsessing over tiny graphical details that nobody can actually see.

Overclocking is not for everyone that is why I like to record with stock settings. The 8350 and its architecture are still capable of great 1080p gaming. That being said I do recommend upgrading platforms, the am3 platform is starting to reach the end of its gaming life. Modern i3's or ryzen 3 cpus will run circles around the 8350 and they are very affordable.

@@pcgaminghardwaretesting1240The big selling factor of the fx line was the Unlocked clock multiplier (opposed to most locked Intel chips at the time.) It's almost criminal Not to OC some amount. Going from the base 4.0 GHz to 4.6 on any air or included cooler, or 4.8 GHz on about any AiO is easy. Adjust the Hyper Transport bus and Northbridge easily too. Big improvements and super easy.

@@hrayz well yes and no... back in the day i purchased my Fx8350 + Asus Sabertooth 990Fx R2 mobo + Hyper 212 Evo + 16gb (2x8) Kingston HyperX Fury 1866mhz CL11... that in a modest but decent Corsair R100 mid tower case w/ 2x120mm fans (one front one aft). I had no experience in OC but i read some guides and i went for it... just changing multiplier (default HT/NB since i didn't want to push Ram beyond "stock" XMP 1866) and with that i managed to squeeze 4.4ghz at 1.368 vcore. The result was a solid 5 to 10% improvement in games while also a somehow speedup time in Photo rendering (the productivity i used to do as a photography enthusiast). BUT that came at a very massive heat output from the CPU. in games it will run around 62°c and for productivity it was around 66°c, since the safe temp AMD says was 62°c i did considered that i had no headroom whatsoever to further push the CPU above that VCore. 1 close to 2 years after my initial OC, PC started to face BSOD at certain hard work points, so i know that Sillicon was degraded somehow, and that i needed to throw more juice (a.k.a. voltage) to the CPU to stabilize it... BUT i was already at the verge of my self imposed (in order not to push things up and ending in a hardware burned scenario) temperature limit... Long story short, i ended up rolling back to a 4.0/4.3T "improved stock" settings (a.k.a. Fx8370 stock settings) with auto vcore and everything else set as factory... the extra performance was there, but there were also many risks involved... And Sabertooth was one of the best 3 mobos for the AM3+ platform along with Formula Z and Gigabyte 990Fx UD7, i purchased new in 2016 (yes, when 6th gen already was around) so the process for making Fx chips was very refined by that Point in Time... i had the best mobo, best bined chip, i worried not to push things too hard and despite all, i faced stability issues 2 years after my OC. Nowadays these are 2nd hand CPUS/Mobos with from 7 to 12 years rolling, maybe previously overclocked. There's no point in pushing beyond base clocks since noone with such a limited resources its buying a cheap-o used combo to burn it in 2 months

🙂 i have a different perspective, i collect old motherboards so I dont do any overclocking because i dont want to stress the motherboard anymore than she needs to run video games, most namebrand retail ATX full size boards that are working your looking at 50 to 125 bucks, and its not just the money but as the years go by there will be less boards available, especially the really nice high end models are either gone or the seller is price gouging

This is exactly my configuration, FX8385, 32gb RAM, Asus Rog Strix RX570 8gb / I work 100 percent remotely in my home office, I can do all tasks very well with the computer. I also really enjoy playing and everything I play goes well. I was very surprised when I used the Oculus Quest 2 via a link cable and Halflife Alyx really works so that you can play it well. I really like my computer, it was the first one that I put together and built completely myself. Thanks for your upload, sometimes I think it's time to build a new computer, but thanks to videos like yours / shows me that I can wait a little longer EDIT The nice thing about my desktop is that I never have cold legs in winter 😆

I've come to really appreciate the FX series. I still have one in the living room as a "guess" computer. It's a FX 6300 with all cores OC'd to 4200ghz running with an AMD RX 580 2048sp. No one really uses it for gaming any more, but it runs great with all the games that we do have.
@jotabe19843 ай бұрын
well for the extremely small money invest that would represent a CPU upgrade... i'd go for an Fx8350, (or if Mobo is limited to 95w CPU, a Fx8320e) 4.0ghz base clock of the Fx8350 will be about a match for the Fx6300 OC you have right there, and 4.2T (that i would suggest tweak to 4.3 if you have an Asus mobo that allows for turbo multiplier change) leaves at the exact same clock with just a stock CPU. 2 extra cores/threads will boost the PC performance. I used to use my Fx8350 with 6 cores for photo rendering while leaving 2 cores free (releasing them thru core afinity to a given task in windows manager). These 2 free cores worked (kind of) like an independent A6 CPU for web browsing, while i was committing 6 cores (effectively an Fx6350) to the productivity alone. This might sound meh in 2024, but was a huge productivity headroom in 2012/2016 when Fx were selling brand new That multitasking headroom with a 6 core can't be achieved, since you'll get 2 cores released (kind of an A6) for chilling + 4 cores committed (kind of an Fx4300, that has around the same performance as a Phenom II x4 945, not a decent performance for 2024 but neither back in 2012) for a productivity task.

My fx-8370 is still living as the backup system. With a real RX 580-8GB. 4.775GHz with a simple AiO. I now use a kit of 16GB ddr3-2133 instead of my original 32GB ddr3-1600. Speed over quantity, since it's a backup system now.

I’ve had this cpu for a few years now and i am also impressed with its performance today. All the gameplay was achieved without overclocking the cpu or gpu. I’m sure if you can get a good OC on both you will be able to boost performance even more!
@JamesDeSimone-im7tz10 ай бұрын
If you look at the numbers the bottle neck is the GPU not the FX8350. The RX 580 2048sp is just an RX 570. You can see the GPU hitting 100% severl times with the FX8350 usage less than that.
@jonduke47483 ай бұрын
590 would be a good match. Now imaging that and an overclock, pretty solid. Fx8350 is probably one of the best overclocking CPUs of all time, even if the actual chip design made it somewhat lack-luster at any speed. AMD just had to price it appropriately.

Brilliant! You are the first video i have come across that has properly unlocked the potential of the fx 8350 by using ram at 2133mhz. I am surprised to see that you have 32 gigs though since the chip specs state that it can only use 16 gigs. I have 16 gigs 2400mhz on mine 👍

Honestly I advise against it. It’s a dead platform, the RX 580 is a good card I would pair with something more modern like a Ryzen 5 5500 and a b450 motherboard.

I agree. I'm running an FX 8350 but only because I built it before Ryzen. If you are on a budget get an AM4 board that can take a 5xxx CPU. You can get a first or second generation Ryzen and have plenty of room for an upgrade later.

Is cyberpunk running on low settings 1080p? I don’t have the game but i have the same cpu and graphics card. I have 24gb ram, so I hope I can reach at least 30 fps on that game on any setting. Should I buy a new graphics card? I can’t buy a new cpu since I have an AM3+ socket mobo. Would a GTX 1660s, or an RX 5500XT, allow me to play the game with higher FPS and same settings, or higher setting and 30+ fps? Is mixing uneven ram good? I have 8gb x 2, and 4gb x 2
@pcgaminghardwaretesting1240 Жыл бұрын
Yes it is running on low settings and using FSR. Honestly your better off upgrading for motherboard , CPU, and ram rather then upgrading your GPU. Even a modern i3 processor like the i3 10100f will blow the FX 8350 out of the water. And no you will be fine with your ram setup now.
@forzaflyracer347311 ай бұрын
Upgrading to AM4 gonna require you to get ddr4 ram though.
@RudolfSikorsky9 ай бұрын
Probably GTX 1660S or 1070 is max before CPU starts becoming major bottleneck. Cyberpunk is also very CPU intensive game. My first playthrough was on i5 4460/GTX 1070 combo. Medium/high settings without FSR at 1080p and never dropped below 40 FPS.

Need to OC a bit to lessen the bottleneck. Mine running at 4.5ghz with rx580 4gb. And my motherboard have bend once on the top left because the cooler so heavy😂. It bend the case(the plate holding mb doesn't have top support). I already fix it but i think there's issue with the NB part(my pc constantly have stutter/fps drop in game after that)😂
