Your hard work in making your channel into the gold standard of air gun reviews seems to have paid off. You look like you’re fulfilling both versions of the old saw, “Virtue is its own reward” and “Virtue is its own punishment.” You have the respect of both the industry and users, and consequently you’ve been piled with so much work I bet you’re wondering when you’ll find time for a life. You’re a smart guy, so I’m sure you’ll know when to tell us to pound sand and break with your family. Congratulations and I’m liking forward to coming editions.

I got my FX Impact MkII in .22 at 997 FFS with the reg at a little less than 120 BAR and the hammer set on 4. Very happy. I highly suggest the FX chrono too. Utah Airguns pre-tuned the trigger tension. I didn't touch it. On Max it should have little play. BTW, leave the O-rings in the barrel. Harmonics effect accuracy. It's not for the sound. You don't want your barrel to oscillate much when you fire it.
@AEAC4 жыл бұрын
With respect, FX Sweden (Fredrik) told me otherwise. The rings were added to improve the sound quality of the Impact and have no effect on accuracy. Hope this helps. P.S. I recently reviewed the FX wireless Chrony in 2 vids... one on this channel and one on my other, AEAC Home. Couldn't agree more. Great tool 👍

I have just received now ...25 July 2019...my brand new FX Impact Mk2 600mm barrel in .22cal....and out of the box my reg was set at 85 bar and shooting 100fps after a look around I found that valve bumper stop was set right in.....after screwing it out fully and winding the reg up to 125 bar then setting the hammer spring to push my 18.3 grain pellets to 920fps .......after that I set the bumper valve stop in till the 920fps dropped to 890 for maximum air efficiency.......works like a charm.

As a .30 Cal FX owner from the UK Steve I find this video extremely helpful in tuning my rifle...the only downside to owning one of these rifles is that unfortunately the USA has the lions share of all the aftermarket accessories for these rifles ..eg X barrels/ liners/slug liners which are extremely difficult to obtain over here . I feel Mr Axelson and co should ship these accessories to EVERY country they ship the rifles too and not just the USA.... personally I feel this is a black mark against FX's otherwise fine reputation.....I guess it's all about money. Really enjoy all of your reviews, regards from the UK...

If it is not about money, it is about charity. Nobody can consider a producer of great products in a free market a charity, or they would not be in business long. Just buy the stuff from the USA if you can get it easier there. Maybe you could figure out a way to make more money also in what is left of our free market, so it does not bug you so much.

Yes I just purchased the FX Impact w/ the 700mm barrel in .25 cal. And it’s a great gun I read all the instruction on the tuning I put it @ 150 it shoots great but I think I’m going to tune it back down 145 bar; it came set @ 140 bar. The max regulator pressure is 150 bar... it shoots pellet’s hole-n-hole right now @ 50 yards.

Absolutely right, the Impact is for a smaller community that want to adjust the gun to very specifically shoot for a given ammunition and conditions. Picked up one a few months ago, but I had adjusting experience with a Marauder (love turning the wrenches). Perfect for me, not for a beginner! Beginners should stick with Wildcat or Royale. Excellent guns!!!!!
@hotchihuahua15466 жыл бұрын
B G started with Marauder, Benjamin hit a home fun with price and accuracy and trigger. It is a gun you don't have to worry about when it comes to rough environments scratches bumps etc. Like you, I like flexibility . I think the Impact is without a doubt the best when it comes to performance and flexibility, its just ugly. That being said its perfect as being rugged for hunting and why I will buy one. Finally the x barrel has proven to be better than the smooth twist so thats a no brainer. The one thing most airgun manufacturers should do is support the barrel in some way along its length for rigidity. The Marauder does this and why its such a well thought out air gun. I do think most manufacturers are ludicrous with prices though. Happy shooting my friend!

I’ve been thinking about a Daystate Wolverine R with the lever action because I shoot left handed. Then I saw a Mike Knipp video and he was very comfortable shooting the Impact as a lefty so I started reconsidering the Impact because it has the power I want. I’ve tinkered with my starter gun and now I’m comfortable and confident that I will not mess up the regulator on the Impact AND now that you explained the process I’m sure I’ll be OK. I bought a Gamo Urban, got the barrel shrouded, installed the GRT-4G, lightened the hammer, installed a BSA Buccaneer cylinder, and installed a Lane Roberts Lancet MK9 regulator. Now I get 50 shots at 21 fpe with less than a 20 fps and even at 60 shots the poi does not change at 44 yards. I did more like enlarging the transfer port and increased the valve spring resistance, but I don’t think that made much of a difference... I actually returned the valve spring resistance to original. I was going to get another Urban, but I really do like the power and versatility of the Impact. I think I’ll start with the .25 with a 700mm barrel. Thanks for this great video. I was going to pull the trigger anyway, but now my mind is more at ease. Now I just need to come up with the 2 stacks to purchase it! Again... great video!!!

I’ve been agonising over what PCP to go for (after a decent under lever), and I’m fascinated (& yes, intimated) by the Impact. I’ve watched quite a few excellent videos on them, but this one is by far the best. Just brilliant, exactly the right level of complexity for me to grasp. I’ll be watching this a few more times to fully get my head around everything, but at least I’m starting to feel some confidence in the possibility of owning one. Thanks heaps 🍻

thank you for this detailed description of the x barrel system. I was having problems with my .22 fixed shroud. my point of impact would keep moving after about 6 shots. I removed the 3 o rings that were holding the insert. instantly the groups held steady and tightened. again, thank you.
@jasonsorgee40724 жыл бұрын
I experienced the same thing with .22 Mk2 with 700mm barrel. Groups were around 1” at 50 yards. I removed donnyfl, not much improvement. Messed around with probe and side shot magazine for a bit and began single loading by hand. It was better but still had several fliers. Took barrel out and cleaned it, same problem. Finally, I removed the 4 barrel liner o-rings because the barrel liner is supported at the start and end by internal o-rings anyway. Took it back out and now it shoots 1/2” groups at 50. Not sure where FX was going with these o-rings but they can mess up a good rifle in my opinion at least.

My original Impact came as a .22 with telescoping shroud and it was very badly tuned from the factory. Before I discovered this, I shot it for months being disappointed and finally went back to shooting my Royale. When I got my .30 barrel I had to tune and that’s when I realized what a mess I had. Now I am back to the .22 and it shoots great. I don’t know if they have fixed this, but it was dreadful. Trust, but verify.

I ordered a 700mm .30 cal smooth twist x and hopefully I can get it to perform at the 85-90 fpe for deer hunting. Its shooting one hole groups at 42 yards. I like my two tone .30 caliber FX Impact. You do very good vids Steve. This is going to be my first PCP, and you did a really good job of explaining the functions of it. I do see another reason for the o-rings on the insert though. The insert is long and small in diameter, and that means when you tighten the end cap, you are compressing the long insert into the breech. A rule of thumb I learned back in the engineering school days was when you have something that is 8 times or more longer than the diameter, (and this is about 45 times longer than the diameter), it will tend to "bow" under compression, (why you don't want to over tighten the end cap). The o-rings support the middle section of the insert to help keep the insert from bowing. I am sure it would be better to leave the o-rings in there. The insert will want to bow the most in the middle, so one o-ring there, and 2 more making the insert 1/4 length between o-rings, and not over tightening the end cap will keep the insert as straight as it can be. I would think if you only have 2 o-rings for the shorter barrels, place them so they divide the length of the insert equally if possible. "I'm Smart! I'm Smart! I coulda been a contender!" :) Now that I know what gun I am going to buy this winter, do you have any vids of the better compressors out there? Thanks for all you do Steve. A guy from Michigan.

Great video Steve, just a little detail, the valve adjust screw (bumper) adjust the over opening fire valve, this part stop the fire valve pin as you say when is open, hammer rebound is not problem in FX, they use a light weight hammer and short spring in all FX airguns. Overall, great set-up session. Nice, easy way to inform and stay interesting. Thank you so much, and the 49 minutes flashed by rather quickly. About as quickly as the ceiling fan behind you. ;). A few comments from me that are spoken in the best wishes and intent, and I know that this is a 2 year old review, but your work here is still relevant in 2020 with the new air guns. I just got the newest version (FX x Impact MK 2) in December 2020. Information is King. My intent is to add to what you showed us here, based on my initial unboxing and checking it over. After watching your video, Here is what I will address: 1. What gets damaged and why. 2. The need for FX to spell that out in HUGE BOLD LETTERS in the abbreviated manual included with the airgun. (Why no blow-up diagram, is beyond me.) 3. For $2100 FX should have included a rudimentary $2 tool set to cover all the expected adjustments along with barrel removal tool. They spent more money than that on the very nicely formatted and printed-on-heavy-card-stock-paper, but incomplete user manual. Even scope rings come with the needed tool. But first, my initial experience. Just got my new FX x Impact MK 2 with the new power plenum!!. I was so excited that I went over every moving part and adjustment. I thought it was broke because the little slide thingy, next to the power knob (ABCD...MIN...1234...MAX) would slide easily with no fixed place. Nothing about what it does is written in my manual. Decided to search the web for the answer and found this video. Thank you very much, because you explain what it does and how to adjust it for even more flexibility, but you didn't answer what gets damaged nor WHY IT DAMAGES the gun to turn the knob while cocked. In all fairness, neither does the FX manual. So, while reading the warnings again to "NOT adjust that knob when the gun is cocked", I poked and prodded it and found that if I pushed the slide gently against the knob with my finger and turned the knob, the slide would push away and back again as the knob turned. What if I cock it, will it slide still? "Ahah!!!", says I, "cocking the gun drives that little adjustable slide up against the MIN/MAX knob". (Answer is under #1, below) Wow, saved me the embarrassment of an angry call to FX over a brand-new gun that I thought came 'broken". I am excited again about the gun. Thank you for going further than my manual explaining the slide hammer adjustment.. Hey FX, saying "BECAUSE I SAID SO" is not a very effective way to keep me from breaking my new toy. Tell me what happens and why. Understanding is better than blind obedience. We can modify our perception of things when given ample information. Here goes my attempt at explaining some warnings: 1. "Don't adjust the power knob when the gun is cocked". The manual says nothing about what gets damaged nor why, just a "DON'T DO IT" warning. Lame. ANSWER: It is both the adjuster screw for the hammer spring tensioner AND the power knob that are in jeopardy. It presses against the knob position detents inside when the gun is cocked, and can get bent by turning the knob. The knob detents can also get scraped off. So, now you know what gets damaged if you turn that knob when the gun is cocked. You're welcome. ;) Oh, yeah. SO, DON'T DO IT!! ;) 2. "Don't turn the regulator "IN" with pressure in the gun, or permanent damage can occur." "It's ok to turn it out (left) Nothing from FX about why. Lame, again. Not you Steve. You Rocked this review. You can't be expected to pass on to us what they don't show you. ANSWER: Well...regulators have very fine threads that are keeping that adjustable seat/stopper block held inside against some really nasty pressure (3500 psig). Backing it out doesn't stress those threads, but trying to screw it "IN" is asking for them at best, to bind, or strip, and at worst, blow that threaded adjuster seat out into your face. Not fun on the best day. There may be more reasons. But, in fact, the manual that came with my MK 2 describes turning it in both directions while under pressure. Go figure. They may have changed the reg. design. Things Not Understood from the manual: 1. "NOTE: Only use the safety when the gun is cocked." As a firearms enthusiast this puzzles me. Yes, some firearms cannot physically be placed on 'SAFE' when not cocked. Nothing bad happens on those that can be. This should be explained so we are mindful of the issue. Well, the section on 'cocking and loading' places the SAFE ON-AFTER cocking, but oddly, has you put SAFE ON-BEFORE cocking when removing the magazine. Hmmmm...... puzzling. 2. DO NOT 'DRY-FIRE' WITH NEAR "0" AIR PRESSURE. Why? Hello? You know it's gonna happen at some point. Where is the elephant in this room? 3. NEVER ADJUST REG. ABOVE 170 bar. (damage). Damage to what, why, how,? I get it, over-pressure to the low pressure side, but what is the weak link? 4. NEVER FIRE GUN WHEN PRESSURE IS LOWER THAN SET PRESSURE. Well, now. If I can adjust the chamber pressure from 100 bar to 150+ bar, what gets damaged if I fire it when my pressure sags below a setting of 140 when my tank is dropping below? Why? Is it the Regulator? Again, understanding is far better than sheer obedience. 5. Finall gripe: they included a nice 'replacement' air 'quick-connect' adapter to replace onto our air source that makes it easier to remove than ordinary 'quick-connects' due to the deeply recessed male fill port. Nice, but my air pump has the quick-connect JB-welded on. Hmmm.... maybe I will source an extension to my current hose and fitting. Yup. That about does it. Sorry about the long post. I'm just hoping to aid another soul who has the same questions as I have. Any answers are also welcome. .

Hi Steve. Magnificent and thorough revision of the Impact X. I'm following you from Spain. A full boning of the Impact in your hands would be something superb to count on. I am surprised by the bitter complaints of some users about the quality of some parts of the Impact. Until now, I was only aware of the very good reviews that FX and its Impact receive from all over the world. I know firearms well, but I'm absolutely unaware of the world of compressed air, which I've recently become interested in, and especially in getting started with FX Impact X. I summarize what I read on KZbin today, with the intention of knowing if you have been able to verify some of these terms: - "Rear valve stem leaks." - "the trigger doesn't go back to the first stage." - "Fixing screw is bent in place." - "Tank indicator reads 50 bar without tank connected." - "seems to have the same problems as those that arose in early 2016." - "the quality of the material used is inferior. The screws are soft and stripped. The probe assembly is dangerous for such a powerful rifle, even on the X." - "The cocking pin is bent. Destroy o'rings. Poor machining finishes. The Weaver Bipod Rail is grounded in a groove." - "design issues." - "the probe block requires a lot of force. The screw that holds the probe itself is of inferior quality to almost all of the rifle's screws." - "Brass ends... it's inferior quality and bending." - "I haven't touched any adjustments. I've returned it twice for leaks, now it's dripping very slowly again." Whether you do or not, thank you, bro. A greeting.

Hi Steve, got my impact and yesterday I change the barrel (from 0.22 to 0.25, your video was great for that) and adjust the HST with allen. Pretty sure it was 1.5mm wrench, also CW or CCW is confusing since all depend if you in front or in the back, for me was easy to understand, turn it down will increase tension, turn it up, will decrease it, just my 2 cents. Again great video and thanks for sharing (FX Impact X 0.22 0.25 and 0.30 owner) BTW flawless change, awesome airgun.

Thank you for this concise & didactic information on the FX Impact X. I am a retired senior with fixed income but would like to invest in a PCP. I am afraid from all of the reviews from all 3 of the largest distributors of airguns. $2800 is a lot of money to get poor customer service, lose my money and receive damaged or incomplete product. I have read that FX USA is now the representative for The Sweden FX line of airguns. Who could I buy an Impact X, Wildcat MKII or Crown from and not get put through the ringers. Again I am a senior on a fixed income, money is tight but available, I have been saving for an Impact X the past year and am almost there. Studying for the past year on FX line of Airguns. Thank you for your time.

Thank you, Steve! I had to watch this as I just received the .30 - 700 mm for my first gen Impact. Got it from UA and it didn't come with a grub screw so I was at a loss for securing the barrel. You provided that information and then some! Thanks again. Cheers and see you in October, my friend.

I just bought an FX Impact MKII in .25 cal & shoot only the JSB Exact King .25 in 25.39. When you set this Impact up what BC were you coming up with? The reason I ask is I have found web sites showing .017 all the way to.038 BC & trying to figure out what my BC will be & have mine tuned to almost exactly what you have this Impact set to.Thanks for info & great videos.

As always an excellent one Steve! I have the first iteration FX Impact in 0.177 caliber and I would love to see some 50 m groups to compare to mine. I just don’t seem to be able to get the grouping I think the Impact should be getting at 50m. As soon as I am happy with that I will move to 100m. I do hope you start by how to best tune the 0.177 first. Press on my friend...

Great job, FX are really leading the way in technology, it’s fun that we get to play and tinker with their innovation too. Thanks for a great video. It does however make it harder to choose what initial caliber to start with. I do not own an impact yet, but I feel it’s going to get expensive 😬

Do you know how it is if you bought the pretty fast car, the pretty fast motorcycle, or pretty powerful lawn mower, but 3 months later, you wish you had spent more for more power? This gun makes 75fpe in the .30 cal out of the box, and costs the same as the 18fpe .177 gun. In Michigan, the .30 cal. will take any game smaller than a bear or a deer. My money says go big, and I don't think you will be disappointed. :)

Could you not try upping the hammer spring tension first to see if you can achieve desired speeds without upping the Rev pressure? If you can’t get the desired speed then up the reg pressure?

Steve - Matt D., Air Arms has a video that indicates the Impact X has an improved regulator. He indicates that the regulator can be adjusted either counter clockwise or clockwise... Please advise. Great video!
@SirBoden6 жыл бұрын
Longer barrel gives the compressed air more time to expand behind the pellet before it leaves the barrel. That way the energy in the air isn’t being waisted outside the barrel. Optimally you would calculate the volume of air (cc) the barrel holds and set the value to release that much air with each shot. That would remove the puff of expanding air that disrupts the pellet as it leaves the barrel.

Steve, thanks for the awesome review!!! And I agree with the volousity speeds, as some I always thought faster was best, when I first started with pcp. But it didn't take long long to figure out that wasn't true. Thanks again for the review.

Hi Steve, here in the UK we are regulated so much to the sub 12ftlb, trying to tune my impact to 581 feet per second and only using 15,89 JSB's is more of a dark art than a science but on the up side I do get nearly seven hundred shots per fill.... Kind regards Phil

All of them are great upgrades of the original FX Impacts.

Suggestion Steve...I bet a lot of guys would appreciate you teaching them how to reinstall the o-ring that goes in the silver sleeve that keeps the barrel centered at the rear. You know, the one you warned everyone not to dry fire out of the barrel when no liner is present.

My question is regarding the smooth twist slug barrels. Will there be .177 slug barrels and does the twist rate change for slug barrels the bigger the caliber? I'd like to shoot .177 slugs based on the quieter report compared to a .22. Since where I live, we aren't allowed any kind of sound suppression for any rifle. Would a .177 slug be ample for pests as large as a crow or magpie at distances beyond 75 yards to 100 yards?

Dear Sir, there is information stating that the regulators on earlier made FX impacts cannot be upgraded to the newer impact x version due to size differences. Can someone explain in detail, and if so, how can it be determined what earlier impact models are upgradable? Can it be ascertained by their serial number?
@donham5125 жыл бұрын
you get a hint from the parts list the o-rings for the impact reg. housing ... rev date 2019-18-3 (the info i have) ... "until serial no 183534" ... "from serial no. 183524" therefore i am assuming that 183534 separates ver 1 from ver 2 .... hope that helps

I wonder if those O-Rings between the barrel liner and the inner shroud help to dampen the oscillation / harmonic vibration? I'm not a physicist but it sounds plausible. If this is true (big if) then removing the o-rings would increase the amplitude and duration of the oscillation. I feel like these little o-rings are annoying but I leave them in just in case.

Hey Steve, lot of info, great video. Any plans to do something like this on the M3? I'd love to hear everything you have to say about tuning the M3 as well!
@AEAC2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Yes. I just received two m3s this week for just that. Expect to see the vids the fall/winter. To bring ya up to date on FX tuning, check out my later and much more evolved tuning guides (Crown, Maverick, Dreamline). The Impact one your commenting in is very outdated now, and my newer ones are much more advanced. All can be applied to the Impact too. Enjoy! Steve

The most educating video I found so far on the impact. I ordered mine and now familiarizing myself with the how-to. I'm new to this but I notice every time you put some downwards weight on that barrel throughout the video it seemed to move substantially closer to the tank... I'm curious if that can contribute to instability or accuracy over time. Or does the shroud/sleeve move independently from the actual barrel?
@AEAC4 жыл бұрын
Hello and welcome. Be sure to check out my more recent & evolved tuning guides on the Crown Continuum and Avenger. Both are very applicable to tuning the Impact. Compressing the barrel a few mm doesn't permanently bend it. POI will remain unchanged. Best, Steve

Thanks Steve. By the way are you by any chance familiar with Lethal Air? If so I wonder why they would cancel my Fx Impact x mk2 order a week after putting an order through and charging my account. They just sent me the Email yesterday that they cancelled my order and I'm a bit bummed. Having a really hard time reaching them. A couple weeks ago I had ordered an Air Arms Texan LSS carbon fiber tank and the account was charged in full but still haven't received a shipping confirmation and even since then they haven't replied to an email or a phone call. I did some shopping and was aware that most other websites like Utah Air guns, Pyramid Air, Air Gun Depot, etc.. did not have either the Texan or the Impact in stock. But I made sure that when I made my order, there was no fine print notice of a backorder on those guns at Lethal Air because if I look up the Texan now...it requires to preorder. Just wondering if this type of drama is typical with other sellers. And what would you recommend.

I have no experience with Lethal Air, sorry. Steve

Are you sure by "harmonics" at 33min they meant sound and not vibration? I'm still learning but the first time I heard someone talk about tuning for harmonics I thought about how the barrel would vibrate/wiggle/flex etc.

My biggest "Nit Pick" on my impact is the safety being on the right side and the "fire" position being vertical. It tends to rub against my index finger while firing and is a slight distraction An awesome intro video to the impact. Any thoughts on doing a more in-depth video for o ring replacements and further maintenance?

Steve, great video on the Impact FX. I got interested in these airguns awhile back and hope to get the money together to get one. Just a small comment though, I cringed when you were resting your arm on the scope. I know you didn't have much pressure on it, and hard to demonstrate without doing it. Maybe take it off next time. Just suggesting for next time. Look forward to more videos.
